Gamjabau is a potato-dumpling house at 103 Cheongnyeongpo-ro in Yeongwol, right beside the Cheongnyeongpo ferry landing; the sign and the regulars call it Gamjabau Ongsimi. The board holds three things only: the dumplings plain, the dumplings with hand-cut noodles, and the noodles alone. The dumplings are rolled from raw grated potato and simmered in a broth of dried pollack and ground perilla seed. It is open three hours a day, lunch only — eleven until half past two, and earlier if the day's potatoes run out. The licence dates from 1982; the place stood further into town, opposite Bongnae Elementary School, until it moved to this larger site in mid-February 2026. The posts we read run from September 2025 to September 2026.

What sets it apart
- The shop moved in mid-February 2026. Six of the posts we read were written at the old address, opposite Bongnae Elementary School further into town. A writer on 10 January saw the relocation notice on the wall and asked at the till: still building, no date fixed, some time around mid-February. An April writer was told by another customer that the move had happened in February; a March writer put old and new side by side and called the new room far larger. This matters because the old place had no car park at all — those posts say so plainly and describe parking on the verge or in the alley behind. The present site has its own lot beside the door. So we did not count parking or the size of the room from the pre-move posts. Taste, portions, queueing and service we did count, since those travelled with the business. One March writer notes the prices had gone up a thousand won each since her earlier visit.
- Nearly every post opens with the wait. Weekdays included: one writer arrived ten minutes before opening on a weekday and found seven groups already there; another stood behind ten groups for half an hour. The longest wait we read about was an hour and a half, twelve o'clock to half past one. A CatchTable terminal by the door takes your name and party size, but it registers you in the queue rather than booking a table — one writer worked out that remote registration opens around half past ten, put her name down at 10:03 and was seventh, then looked back at 10:35 to count fourteen groups behind her. At the old address it was a chalkboard by the door. One writer did walk straight in, arriving at an odd hour between sights. The advice converges: come at eleven, or come before the potatoes run out.
- Everything is cooked from the order, ten to fifteen minutes, and a free bowl of barley rice is set out to fill the gap. The self-serve corner holds the rice, shredded radish, a thick soybean paste and gochujang, and almost every visiting writer helped themselves. Several then wrote about the free rice at greater length than the dish they paid for — one would buy a tub of the paste if it were sold; another kept spooning it plain after dipping the onion and chilli in it; a third rates it above the ₩12,000 barley-rice lunch she had at the royal tomb across town. Two had a second bowl and one refilled twice. Three warn you to go easy, because the main bowl is large. Two missed having sesame oil to go with it.
- Three dishes on the board, and one dish per person. The dumplings alone, the dumplings with noodles, or the noodles alone; several writers are glad of having nothing to decide. One found the rule awkward: her child cannot finish a bowl, but four of them meant four bowls — she adds that he emptied his anyway. Another wished there were something children would choose. Several make the opposite case, that it is a good place to bring older parents, the seasoning being mild rather than sharp.

Accounts of parking disagree, and only half of the disagreement is explained by the move. The present site has its own lot beside the door; two writers count about ten spaces. One calls that generous for a place with a queue; another calls it cramped once you count the people waiting, and advises using the public car park at Cheongnyeongpo instead. One writer notes that the ground rises and falls, and that if you cannot get a space right outside you park down the hill — a real risk if you are bringing someone who walks with difficulty. Another recommends the restaurant's lot as an overflow for Cheongnyeongpo visitors, but adds the caveat not to do it once the kitchen has opened. At the old address there was no lot at all, and people left their cars on the verge or in the alley behind.

Naver Map has a full English mode — Settings → Language → English. In Korea it gives better walking and transit directions than Google Maps.
Getting inside
Nor does any post mention a step at the door, a ramp, a wheelchair or a pushchair. Not one of the twenty-five describes what the entrance looks like, so we do not know. The nearest thing to it is one writer's note about parking, and that is about the car park rather than the door: the ground rises and falls, and if you cannot get a space right outside you park down the hill, which she thought a real risk with someone who walks with difficulty. Whether the threshold itself is level, nobody has said.

Of the 28 posts we gathered, 4 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- Not one post mentions the toilets. Whether they are inside or out, whether they are separated by sex, whether there is an accessible one — not a line in any of the twenty-five. That is not a statement that there are none; it is a statement that nobody wrote it down. One writer brought five-month-old twins, but her account of the changing table belongs to the toilets at Cheongnyeongpo next door, not to this restaurant.
- No post says which floor it is on, or whether there are stairs. Not one of the twenty-five mentions either. One writer described the old premises as a converted house, but that is the building they left in February 2026; of the present one the posts say only that it is clean and roomy, and nothing about its shape.
- The posts disagree about the days and the closing time. The close appears to have shifted from two o'clock to half past two around the middle of April 2026 — every post up to 18 April says two, every post from 22 April onward says half past. The date splits so cleanly that this looks like a change rather than a contradiction, but we have not confirmed it with the shop. The rest day does not resolve by date at all: a post from 21 September 2026 says Mondays only, one from four days earlier says Mondays and Tuesdays both. All six pre-move posts say Mondays and Tuesdays. And it can close before the posted hour — four posts record that the day ends when the potatoes do. Nobody mentions a mid-afternoon break or a last order. If you are coming any distance, telephone first.
- Not one post declares a sponsorship. We read the bodies and the hashtag blocks at the end, and none mentions a free meal, a fee or a review campaign. Six state the opposite outright — they paid — and one photographs the receipt. Still, twenty-five posts are not twenty-five diners: one came alone, several came as a pair, several as a family of four. And of the thirty posts collected we set five aside: an itinerary piece whose photographs are credited to other people's blogs, a visitor guide to Cheongnyeongpo next door, a "best ten in Yeongwol" listicle that says in its own body that it could not find the hours or prices, a post that simply transcribes the star rating and reviews from the map app, and the half of one blogger's two-part trip that says nothing about the restaurant.
- Whether you can get here without a car splits the posts. One writer who came alone states flatly that you need one. Another came on foot and by public transport — and had to give up on the frozen potato cakes, having no way to carry them. From Cheongnyeongpo, though, people walk: several put it at under ten minutes from the ferry car park next door. No post says anything about buses from the centre of Yeongwol.
