Beach Susan Hoe Center occupies a whole building in Bongpo, Goseong, right beside the Kensington Resort Seorak Beach. The ground floor is a fish tank, the first floor is the dining room, the second is a sea-view deck. The shop says it is run by a company that operates its own sea cages and a seafood wholesale business in Goseong. You can eat in or carry out, and these are two different menus at two different prices — eating in brings a spread of free side dishes and a stew at the end; the takeaway box is fish and condiments. Ten in the morning to ten at night, no afternoon break, closed Wednesdays. The posts we read run from January to September 2026.

What sets it apart
- Parts of the floor are glass, and the tank is underneath. Almost everyone who writes about this place writes about that. The whole ground floor is an aquarium — one writer puts it at about 330 square metres — and several panels in the dining-room floor are clear, so you look down on swimming fish from your table. Four writers met a giant ray; one reports something close to shark-sized. Three describe the first step onto the glass as unnerving, and four watched a child stay glued to it. One says it is exactly what you want while a small child waits for food.
- One whole wall is glass and the Kensington beach is behind it. But only the window row faces the sea head-on. One writer arrived in the evening to find those tables already taken; one was given window seat number one; one was seated in a private room and found it has a window but not the view. After sunset there is nothing to see — two who came at night say to come in daylight instead, and one who came at dusk could not get over the sky. One post mentions folding doors being opened on fine days, but she was told this rather than seeing it, so we pass it on as hearsay.
- This place sells more out the door than across the table. Twenty-three of the thirty posts deal with takeaway and eighteen ate theirs back at a hotel, a pension or a camping spot. Price is why: the same "assorted sashimi for two" is ₩100,000 on the dine-in board and ₩40,000 on the takeaway board. The dine-in price buys a loaded table of side dishes and a stew to finish, so it is not the same purchase. The box is not just fish — a four-sauce pack, a house soybean paste, white or aged kimchi, lettuce, garlic and chillies all go in, and six writers say there was nothing left to buy. Seasoned laver, though, is not included.
- The queue is for the takeaway counter, not the tables. One writer had five or six people ahead of her and watched the owner warn later arrivals of a long wait; one was told forty minutes or more; one was quoted a long wait outright. Seats went to whoever had booked — a writer who walked in at five without a reservation took the last free table and then watched booked parties arrive while others were turned away. Against that, two writers who came around half past two found the room down to two tables, or empty.
- It is upstairs, but there is a lift. Seven writers say so and two give the route — in at the left side of the building. One notes that the lift in a fish restaurant usually smells of fish and this one did not. Three write that older relatives or a pushchair would be fine here; all three are reasoning from the lift, and none of them actually came with a wheelchair or a pushchair.
- There are private rooms and long tables for groups. Sixteen writers saw them; one was seated in a room and reports that while it does not face the sea head-on, a window gives you the beach. Two found the room larger than expected with several tables — enough for a big family or a work dinner — and two remark on how many group tables there are. Three advise booking ahead if you are coming as a group at a weekend mealtime.
- The top floor is a viewing deck. Four writers went up: clear railings, open roof, sky and sea in one look. One found a little putting green up there and played a few; another concluded the owner must like golf. Two suggest going up after you eat.
- Eat in and a free spread arrives before the fish. Seven writers got one; between them they list grilled flatfish, abalone, sea squirt, sea cucumber, octopus, prawn tempura, potato cake, kimchi pancake, aged kimchi, salad, braised mushroom, flying-fish roe and laver. Two fed a child who does not like raw fish entirely from it. One writer notes some refills are charged while the laver is not — and one ordered grilled flatfish separately only to find it already on the table, so it is worth asking first.
- A wall of signed photographs sits beside the till. Four writers describe it, and three of them also saw a poster claiming the parent restaurant — a crab house at Sol Beach — appeared on the variety show New Journey to the West. That makes this its Goseong branch, though we have not been able to confirm how the two names relate. One writer says she had no idea until she got there.
- Two review promotions are running. Eight writers copied the notices. One gives a free bottle — drink of your choice — for a receipt review; the other awards a ₩220,000 crab-and-sashimi table to the month's best review. Three say they would like to win; none report winning. It is worth knowing this when weighing how many reviews this place has.

Parking is what this place is proud of. Seventeen posts mention it and "no need to worry" keeps coming back. Two say a coach could park there; two add that the public lot or the beach car park nearby will take the overflow. The figure of fifty-plus spaces, though, comes from the shop's own blurb — nobody counted. One writer places the lot across the road rather than in front of the building.

Nobody has come here in a wheelchair or with a pushchair. Seven writers confirm there is a lift and three conclude that an older relative or a buggy would manage — but all three are inferring from the lift, not describing a trip they made. Whether there is a step at the entrance, how wide the lift door and the corridor are, whether a chair can pass between the tables: none of the thirty posts say. That is not a no; it is an absence. One thing worth knowing in advance: parts of the floor are glass, and three writers describe hesitating before stepping on it.

What we do not know
- The reviews bunch into one season and several repeat the same sentences. Eight of the thirty went up between 7 and 10 July 2026, and several of those eight share wording to the syllable: the drive times from Sokcho, the line about the company running its own sea cages and wholesale business, "prepared and sold out the same day", the floor-by-floor description, "parking for over fifty". All of it appears verbatim in the shop's own Naver booking blurb — one writer reproduced that blurb in full, which let us check. So none of those lines were counted as something anybody saw. We did keep all eight, because what each of them ordered, paid and ate is specific and different.
- Two posts do declare a sponsorship, but not in the body. A 20 January 2026 post carries `#협찬 #리뷰노트` in an embedded clip above the text; a 14 January one carries `#협찬` in a clip at the end. Both clips are tagged with this restaurant. Read only the body and you would miss it. Four other posts state plainly that they paid; the remaining twenty-four say nothing either way. Layer the free bottle for a receipt review on top of that and the share of writing that is not simply someone paying full price is wider than it looks.
- Only three writers looked at the toilet themselves. All three report it inside the restaurant with separate rooms for men and women, and one places it immediately left of the entrance. Two were struck by the notice — no rinsing sandy sandals, no washing feet in the basin — as proof of where they were. Four other mentions were not counted: two are the same blogger's boilerplate header repeated across two posts, and one is a straight copy of the Naver amenities list. No post mentions an accessible toilet.
- Exactly one writer describes arriving without a car. She reports a bus stop directly in front of the building and says it makes the place reachable on foot. Everyone else drove, or walked two to five minutes from the Kensington Resort or the Cheongganjeong condo; one took a taxi and one used her hotel's shuttle. Nobody records which bus, from where, or how often.
- The posts disagree about what is provided for children. Three report high chairs — one saw several by the entrance — and one of those adds that children's tableware is available. Another writer states flatly that no children's spoon was given, though seaweed soup and laver came out free and her child ate well. Nobody mentions a changing table or a play room.
- Four different phone numbers are in play. Thirteen posts give the 0507 relay number; two list a landline, 033-636-0601, beside it; and one gives a different landline altogether, 033-633-8222. The number we carry on this page, 033-637-1298, comes from the business licence register — and not one post gives it. We cannot say which one is answered — for a booking or a takeaway order, start with the 0507 number that most posts print. No post gives a price for the crab, either. Eleven call this a crab place and report crab sets on the board, one actually ate it, and even she does not say what it cost.
