Hyeondae Memil
현대메밀 Hyeondae means modern and memil means buckwheat; bloggers describe the place as reworking Chuncheon's buckwheat makguksu into modern fusion dishes.
Compiled from 27 blog posts read in fullSources →
Hyeondae Memil is a buckwheat kitchen in an alley near Namchuncheon Station in Toegye-dong, Chuncheon. People share soy or spicy makguksu (8,600 won), several kinds of buckwheat sujebi (10,600 to 13,600 won), truffle potato pancake (16,600 won) and sous-vide pork tenderloin (20,600 won), ordering and paying on a tablet or kiosk at the table. The house says it occupies an old shop-and-barbershop building, and many posts describe the retro props, an old TV and game machines. We read 30 posts from January 2025 to October 2026; 27 describe an actual visit. The soy makguksu was eaten in 18 of them and the truffle potato pancake in 12.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.
What sets it apart
- Expect to wait at mealtimes. Nine posts waited or saw a line; two walked straight in (Sunday at noon, early evening). The waits written down are 20 to 30 minutes, and about 20 minutes behind five parties; one couple was fourth in line at noon but says turnover was quick. Two August 2026 posts entered a number on a waitlist device, one noting it pings you on KakaoTalk. Another arrived at 10:40 on a weekend, found people already there, and stood without a ticket until the 11:00 opening.
- There is somewhere to wait. Three posts mention a waiting area by the entrance, one noting a fan that made a hot day bearable. Two posts played the old arcade-style game machine while waiting.
- There is floor seating, mentioned by eight posts. A family with a five-month-old chose it so the baby could lie down, and found cushions and a blanket. One post notes that most tables are regular chairs and tables. Two posts mention a small counter seat near the door for one or two.
- You order on a tablet or kiosk at the table, as nine posts describe, paying as you order; one post says you can call staff if you would rather pay at the end.
5 more
- Tables get tea instead of water: five posts say barley tea, one says solomon's-seal tea. Three posts noticed hair ties left on each table.
- Ten posts mention the Naver review event, two free buckwheat dumplings. Two say it needs an order of 30,000 won or more, and one group says the dumplings only arrived after the review was checked.
- Three posts found portions small: a family of three still hungry after three bowls, a group let down by thin, small slices of sous-vide pork belly, and a trio who said four dishes for three people would be about right. No post called the portions large.
- It is walkable from Namchuncheon Station. Three posts arrived by public transport: one says it is about six minutes on foot from exit 2 and easy to find, another came by ITX from Yongsan and walked over. Other distances quoted (five minutes, 365 m) are copied listing text.
- Seven posts went with family, five with a husband or boyfriend, five with friends, two in a larger group and one alone. Four brought children, and two mention high chairs. The solo diner went just after the weekday lunch rush and found it quiet.

Parking
8 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

Parking is a few spaces out front plus the alleys. Eight posts describe parking. One found the two or three front spaces taken and parked on the street; another found the lot full of residents' cars and very tight, and suggests the alley instead. The repeated line about two or three spaces in front is copied listing text, which we did not count.

Where it is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.
From the station
It is walkable from Namchuncheon Station. Three posts arrived by public transport: one says it is about six minutes on foot from exit 2 and easy to find, another came by ITX from Yongsan and walked over. Other distances quoted (five minutes, 365 m) are copied listing text.
Getting inside
| Toilet inside | 5 of 27 posts |
|---|---|
| Separate restrooms | 2 of 27 posts |
No one described floors or stairs from experience. The address says ground floor, but we do not know whether there are steps on the way in.
No one wrote about a step at the entrance or wheelchair access. The only stroller mention is the post above, and it does not describe getting in. This means we do not know, not that there is a barrier.
The toilet is inside the restaurant, five posts say, and two add that it is split by gender. One expected an outdoor toilet given the old building and was relieved.
No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 30 posts we gathered, 3 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- Opinions on spacing differ: four posts found the tables well spaced, one said they are fairly close and advised coming at a quiet hour with a stroller.
- Opening hours, 11:00 to 20:30 with a 15:00 to 17:00 break and last order at 20:00, appear identically in 21 posts, mostly copied from the listing. The day off changed over time: posts from April and August 2025 say closed every Monday, twelve posts from July 2026 on say open daily, and two from August and September 2026 say no days off. One October 2026 post again says Mondays are closed; we cannot tell whether it copied old information.
- The menu has grown. Warm buckwheat noodle soup, spicy jang buckwheat noodles and a beef shank hot pot are missing from an August 2025 menu list but appear from August 2026, and an October 2026 post called the warm noodles new.
- Prices held steady from January 2025 to October 2026: soy makguksu 8,600 won, jang sujebi 11,600 won, sous-vide tenderloin 20,600 won. One post listed the makguksu at 8,500 won; its three dishes came to 36,700 won. No one called it expensive and two posts called it good value. A large noodle serving was free with one dish per person in April 2025 and cost 400 won extra in October 2026.
- Reservations are unclear. Two posts say booking on Naver lets you skip the wait; one in August 2026 saw a Naver booking sticker but found it did not seem to work. Most posts give the phone number as 0507-1309-0538, while one shows a placeholder number. No post tried booking by phone.
- A few posts are smooth praise with nothing experienced in them. One gives a placeholder phone number and another names no time, price or companion, so we did not count either as a visit; a post that only pasted the listing was also left out. Lines like the old shop-and-barbershop building and broth simmered daily come from the house's own description.
