Mirang Sikdang
미랑식당 A 33-year-old family-run Korean restaurant in Sokcho's Gyo-dong, known for squid and pork belly stir-fried on a hot stone plate
Korean · Sokcho-si, Gyo-dong
Data as of · Published ·
Mirang Sikdang sits in a back lane of the Meokgeori food quarter in Gyo-dong, Sokcho, across from the front gate of the Seokmi apartments. The dish it is known for is osam bulgogi — Sokcho squid and pork belly in a sweet-hot sauce, brought to the table on a heated stone plate so it is still hot at the last bite. Order a main and a full spread of side dishes arrives with it, along with a bowl of beef-bone broth; several writers were told the owners prep all of it themselves each morning. Posts give the hours as 10:30 to 21:30, last orders 20:30, open every day of the year. Every dish takes a minimum of two orders and one dish per person, so eating here alone is difficult. There is parking in front, and a room at the back where you leave your shoes at the door. It is a residential lane rather than a tourist strip, which is why nearly every post calls it a locals' place. The posts we read run from May 2025 to September 2026.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.
What sets it apart
- You cannot eat here on your own. Writers report a two-order minimum on every dish and a one-dish-per-person rule; one says plainly that solo dining looks impossible, another wishes single portions were sold and calls it the one letdown of the visit.
- Nobody reports queueing. One writer who waited forty minutes at a stall in the central market the same weekend walked straight to a table here. But no queue is not the same as always available: one party arrived on their first evening to find the kitchen had run out and came back at lunch the next day. Another found the tables had already turned over once by about eleven in the morning.
- The side dishes change from day to day. Several writers were told the owners make and prep them every morning — one heard "before dawn" — and a repeat visitor found a different spread each time, settling on grilled fish, a fried egg, laver and kimchi as the constants and the rest as whatever the day brings. Line up the lists different posts give and they genuinely do not match.
- How long you wait depends on the day. One writer clocked more than twenty minutes and says the kitchen cooks one table at a time; another had food in front of them inside ten minutes. The ones who waited were warned at the point of ordering that it would take a while.
- The place is set up for groups: a floor-seating room at the back where shoes come off, and partitions to split it. Three writers were told group bookings need two days' notice, and one saw a weekday lunch booking on the board. A Sokcho local says it is where their office holds dinners. One writer, though, describes the interior as entirely chair-and-table seating — either they never saw the back room or their party only used the front hall, and we could not settle which.
- It looks fiery and reads mild. Writers describe it as not harsh, as bearable for someone who cannot take heat at all, as about the strength of a packet of Shin Ramyun. Sweetness is where they part: one is relieved it is less sweet than expected, another finds most of the cooking here on the sweet side, and a third says it was a touch too sweet for a mother who dislikes sugar in savoury food.
- It takes Sokcho Love gift certificates — two writers noticed the sticker, and one adds that next time they may finally load some up before the trip.
- Only one writer actually looked at the origin board, and they found it covered up. In a July 2026 post they note that the shop used to use only Korean squid and Korean pork, reckon it now uses deep-sea squid and some Australian pork, and conclude that is why the board is hidden — blaming the price of squid rather than the owners. The same writer tasted the pork and thought it read as Korean anyway. Where other posts say "Korean squid," they are repeating the shop's own wording; this is the only person who checked the notice.

What people order
The most ordered dish is osam bulgogi (오삼불고기) — 29 of 29 posts.
The prices here are what bloggers wrote down in their posts, and they may have changed since. Check Naver Place for the current menu and prices. This list is not a menu board — it counts what bloggers actually ordered and ate. Check on Naver Place
Parking
15 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.
| Posts saying you can park | 15 of 29 posts |

Parking is its own selling point. One writer notes that most restaurants on this food street have none, and that this one lets you pull up out front; another counted five or six spaces in the yard and was told the lane is fair game when they fill up. Several writers describe actually parking there, not just repeating a listing.

Getting there

Naver Map has a full English mode — Settings → Language → English. In Korea it gives better walking and transit directions than Google Maps.
Getting inside
| Toilet inside | 3 of 29 posts |

| Separate restrooms | 2 of 29 posts |
Nobody describes the doorway with their own eyes. A September 2025 press-tour post does say the entrance is wheelchair-accessible, but the sentence sits inside a block lifted from the Naver listing and no one mentions a step, a ramp or a door width, so we did not count it. Written down is not the same as seen. Whether a wheelchair or a pushchair gets through, we do not know — you would have to phone and ask.
No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know
- No post says what floor it is on or whether there are steps at the door. Several describe walking in straight from the car park, but none of them mention a level change. That is not "there are no steps" — it is that nobody wrote it down.
- Nobody writes about getting here without a car. No bus number, no stop. The one person who walked lives in the neighbourhood, another took a taxi, and everyone else drove. Whether it is walkable from the intercity bus terminal or the central market, and which buses stop nearby, we could not establish.
- Some of the posts declare themselves sponsored, review-programme or press-tour visits. Their prices and side-dish lists line up with everyone else's. What they do not contain is a single complaint — the remarks about small portions, waiting, or seasoning being off all come from posts with no such declaration. Worth holding in mind as you read.
- We do not know whether the kitchen closes in the afternoon. More than twenty posts give opening hours; not one mentions a mid-day break, and not one says there isn't one either. A single writer drops a line about going "before or after the break" to avoid the wait, without saying when that is. If you are aiming for the middle of the afternoon, phone first.
- Almost nobody has eaten anything but the osam bulgogi. The braised ribs, the kimchi stew, the flatfish, the cod dishes, the chicken pot and the mixed-fish pot get copied off the board again and again, but hardly anyone orders them. For most of them the only price we have comes from a single August 2026 post that transcribed the whole board, so whether those numbers still hold, we do not know.
