Saembat Makguksu

샘밭막국수 Saembat is a Korean word meaning a field with a spring; makguksu is Chuncheon's buckwheat noodle dish.

Compiled from 10 blog posts read in fullSources →

A makguksu house on Sinsaembat-ro 644 in Sinbuk-eup, Chuncheon, on the road to Soyang Dam. It serves pure-buckwheat makguksu (13,000 won) and a standard bowl described as 70% buckwheat (10,000 won), with boiled pork, bossam and potato or mung-bean pancakes on the side. Wet and dry aren't separate dishes: the noodles arrive dressed and you pour in dongchimi broth from a kettle to taste. We read 30 posts dated 15 August to 23 October 2026; 10 of them describe actually eating here. The other 20 are listicles, rewrites of tourism listings, or meals at the restaurant's festival booth.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. None of the ten posts waited. Four say they walked straight in — one just after noon on a weekday, when there was no queue but every table was taken, another at 1 p.m. on a Tuesday. One post mentions a waitlist machine and a waiting area at the entrance. Nobody recorded a weekend or holiday lunch wait, so we don't know how long those run. A '50 minutes at Chuseok' figure appears only in a post summarising other people's reviews, so we didn't count it.
  2. Three posts came with children. One says a kids' bowl of noodles isn't on the menu but comes free if you ask, generously portioned with half an egg; another also got a separate kids' bowl. Two posts saw high chairs.
  3. You keep your shoes on. Two posts say the raised, floor-style seating now takes shoes, and both add that it seems you used to take them off.
  4. Four posts call the dining room spacious and three mention private rooms further in. A party of five adults and two children sat in a large room behind the main hall with green views from the windows. One post mentions outdoor seating.
6 more
  1. Show your noodle receipt at the cafe next door for 20% off. One post used it — an americano went from 5,500 to 4,400 won; another only said such a discount seemed to exist.
  2. One post came without a car: buses 11, 11-1, 12 or 13 to Cheonjeon 3-ri, then a short walk. Everyone else in the lot had driven.
  3. Two posts say walls of celebrity autographs greet you at the door.
  4. Two posts mention fish living in a small pond outside the restaurant.
  5. Two posts note that the menu lists where ingredients come from. One points out that the pork on top of the noodles is labelled as Chilean, not Korean.
  6. Two posts say the boiled pork has no gamey smell. A customer of more than fifty years, though, wrote that it no longer tastes as it once did.

Parking

6 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

Posts saying you can park6 of 10 posts

No one had trouble parking. Six posts parked or saw the private lot, and four of those called it large. Two say that when the front fills up there is more space behind — go right past the cafe. One post that arrived at 11:15 on the first day of the Chuseok holiday found the front lot full when leaving.

Where it is

Map showing where Saembat Makguksu is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

From the station

1 posts say it is walkable from the station.

Getting inside

No post describes which floor the dining room is on or whether there are stairs. The '1st floor' in the address is just the registered address.

Nobody mentions a step at the entrance or getting in with a wheelchair or stroller. Three posts came with children, but none mention a stroller. That means no one wrote about it, not that access is poor.

No post describes the toilets. 'Separate restrooms' appears only in store info one post copied out.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 30 posts we gathered, 20 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

2026-10-202 posts in one day
2026-10-172 posts in one day
2026-10-154 posts in one day

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Portions divide opinion: two posts found them generous (a large pure-buckwheat bowl fed two women), one said it left them less full than expected.
  • Only one post called it spicy, and mildly so. Most describe the noodles as mild; one found them too bland to enjoy.
  • A 3 October post by a customer of fifty years says the single-piece half portions of pancake are gone, bossam has been added, and the noodles now come with two slices of pork. We don't know when these changes happened.
  • Two posts came with family; one came alone, one with a boyfriend, one drove. None came with a group of friends.
  • Opening hours: five posts give 10:00-20:00 daily, but all copied it from store listings. Three also copied that it closes at 15:00 on the eve and day of major holidays. None of the visit posts gives a last-order time.
  • Prices: the fullest list is a menu copied out on 28 August 2026 — pure buckwheat 13,000 won (large 17,000), standard makguksu 10,000, boiled pork 18,000 or 22,000, bossam 32,000, Saembat set 21,000, pancakes 11,000, tofu 10,000. No October post mentions a change. No one totals what a meal for two cost.
  • Phone: 033-242-1712, in two posts. 'Reservations available' appears only in copied store info; no one actually booked.
  • Many of the 20 non-visit posts follow the same templates: 'top 5/top 10 Chuncheon restaurants' lists, write-ups based on the city tourism portal, and posts carrying Coupang affiliate ads. We didn't count their parking, waiting or price claims. Three posts ate Saembat noodles at the Makguksu-Dakgalbi Festival booth (14-18 October), not at the restaurant, so those weren't counted either.
