Hakgongni Makguksu Dakgalbi

학곡리막국수닭갈비 Hakgok-ri is a village in Chuncheon's Dongnae-myeon; makguksu is the local buckwheat noodle and dakgalbi the stir-fried marinated chicken — the two dishes on the sign.

A large restaurant at 29 Gongji-ro in Chuncheon's Seoksa-dong serving iron-plate dakgalbi and makguksu. Boneless chicken thigh is 17,000 won per 300 g portion, piled on a round iron plate with cabbage, perilla and rice cake; 19 posts said staff stir-fry it for you from start to finish. Chicken offal costs the same, with buckwheat noodles at 10,000 won, udon add-in at 3,000 and finishing fried rice at 3,000. We read 30 posts from July 7 to October 20, 2026; 24 describe an actual meal there, one was about another business, and five were lists or passing mentions.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Weekends mean a long wait. Fifteen posts reported waiting: 40 minutes at a weekend lunch, 1 hour 10 minutes twice on Saturdays, an hour and a half twice on weekends, plus an hour, over an hour, and over 30 minutes. One writer waited 20 minutes arriving at the 11 a.m. opening and an hour arriving at 12:30. Another arrived at 10:46 on a Saturday to find ten parties already ahead. Three posts walked straight in, two of them on weekdays. You enter your phone number on a tablet at the door and get a queue number by KakaoTalk; one couple said staff simply forgot to call them. Four posts said the Sunday waitlist closes at 4 p.m.
  2. There is plenty of space to wait. Eighteen posts described it: an indoor waiting room lined with chairs just inside the entrance, and chairs and benches under red parasols out front. Three said the indoor room is air-conditioned. One found it roomy with lots of seats; another, in midsummer, found it so crowded that waiting in the car seemed better than the heat outside. Four posts noted a TV playing the YouTube show where the restaurant was featured.
  3. You do not cook. Nineteen posts said staff stir-fry everything from start to finish — two described worrying it was about to burn just as a server appeared to turn it, and before the fried rice they scrape off the charred bits and oil. One couple pitched in because staff were stretched thin; one post saw large parties' portions cooked separately and brought over. One writer was told you cannot add to the order mid-cook, so order enough at the start. Two posts put cooking time at about 15 minutes.
  4. Despite the red colour, most posts said it is not spicy: six said so outright, including a self-described spice-averse couple. Two said the heat builds as you eat. Seasoning split two to three on whether it is strongly salted, and one to three on sweetness. Even the aroma divided writers — one noticed a faint curry-like note, another insisted there was none at all.

  1. Takeaway is a big part of the trade. Nine posts saw staff constantly cooking or boxing takeaway orders; one family took 24 portions home in styrofoam boxes, carried to their car by staff, and another took leftovers. Nationwide delivery is mentioned often, but that comes from the store's banner and online shop rather than anything the writers tried.

Parking

15 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

Posts saying you can park15 of 24 posts

There is a dedicated lot in front, but it fills fast. Fifteen posts mentioned parking, many finding it full on arrival — one 15 minutes before opening, another witnessing a fender-bender inside the lot. One writer estimated it holds about 20 cars. Overflow spots that came up repeatedly were along the stream down the side street and behind the neighbouring Geukdong apartments; one writer was directed by phone to a lot at 114-9 Seoksa-dong. One post alone described the parking as ample.

Getting inside

Second floor1 of 24 posts
In a basementyes 0 · no 1 (of 24 posts read)

Only one post mentioned floors: the building has two, and they ate on the ground floor. Others described a wide hall split into left and right sections with perhaps 30 to 40 round iron-plate tables. Nobody described the upstairs seating.

No one mentioned whether there is a step at the entrance or whether a wheelchair or stroller can get in. That means we do not know, not that there is a problem.

No post said where the toilets are or whether they are separated by gender.

No one mentioned: Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 29 posts we gathered, 5 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Posts disagree on phone reservations. Three from July and August booked by phone and were seated within 5–10 minutes, one even booking a day ahead and changing the time. One from the same period was told phone bookings within two hours are not accepted, only the on-site waitlist. Posts from September on say nothing about it, so we do not know whether it still works. The phone number is 033-261-5775.
  • Most posts give the same hours: Tuesday to Saturday 11:00–20:30 (last order 19:50), Sunday 11:00–17:30 (last order 16:50), closed Mondays. One post had an 11:30 opening and a 17:00 Sunday close, one listed closing at 21:10, and two gave 20:30 for Sunday too. Most of these were copied into the post header rather than observed.
  • Prices were identical across every first-hand post from July to October 2026. One pair paid 37,000 won for a portion each of chicken and offal plus udon; another paid 40,000 won for two portions of chicken, a cider and fried rice. One post called it expensive. Two list-style posts gave 15,000 won for dakgalbi, but neither writer had been, so we set that aside.
  • Some found it oily. Two posts said so, one complaining it felt more like eating something fried in oil than dakgalbi and doubting a return visit. Several advised wearing the disposable apron because the oil spatters.
  • Nobody described getting there by bus or train. Most first-hand posts drove; the figure of 31 minutes by public transport from Namchuncheon Station was copied information.
