Chuncheon Myeongmul Dakgalbi

춘천명물닭갈비 Myeongmul means a place's famous specialty, so the name reads 'Chuncheon's famous dakgalbi' — the stir-fried chicken the city is known for.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. You don't cook. Seventeen posts say staff circulate and stir-fry everything to the end, noodles and fried rice included. One post timed 20 minutes to the first bite, and another wished someone had told them up front that staff would do the cooking.
  2. There can be a queue, but it moves. Of seven posts that waited, the times given were 30 minutes (5:30 pm), 10-15 minutes (weekend 7:30 pm, four groups ahead) and under 10 minutes (holiday, one group ahead); one got number one at 1 pm on a Saturday. Two walked straight in, and one found no line on arrival but two groups waiting on the way out. You register at a machine by the door.
  3. There is somewhere to wait. Five posts mention a waiting area, four of them an indoor room and one outdoor chairs, and five posts mention old arcade machines such as Tekken by the waiting area.
  4. The mild version isn't hot: nine posts said so and one called the sauce rich and spicy. Four said it wasn't salty, three found no gamey smell, and two found the mild sauce on the sweet side.

  1. Families come here. Six posts brought children and four mention high chairs. Two describe a raised floor-seating platform; one parent says the baby played there so they could eat in peace. Most came with family; five as a couple, one with friends.

Where it is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside

No post describes what floor the dining room is on or whether there are stairs. That means nobody wrote about it, not that there are none.

We don't know about the entrance step or wheelchair and stroller access. One post's info block lists 'barrier-free', but it was copied from a listing, so we haven't counted it.

We don't know whether the toilet is inside. 'Separate men's and women's toilets' appears only in one post's copied info block.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 28 posts we gathered, 2 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Side dishes are refilled at a self-service bar (12 posts). The dongchimi radish broth divides people: four liked it, three found it vinegary or like pickled-radish brine. One post says there is no kimchi on the bar; you have to ask.
  • Almost every post gives 16,000 won a portion for dakgalbi; one wrote 15,000. Udon noodles are 3,000 won in four posts and 2,000 in two. The first bottled water is free, but three posts note extra bottles cost 500 won; otherwise it's the water dispenser.
  • Nineteen posts list the same hours: 11:00 to 21:30, last order 20:30, closed Tuesdays. One gave a 21:00 close. Almost all of these are copied info blocks, not times anyone checked.
  • Six posts give the phone number as 0507-1377-3069 and one gives 033-257-3069. Two posts touch on booking: one saw reserved tables for groups, and in the other a friend phoned ahead and they were seated straight away.
  • No post arrived by bus or train. One walked about 800 m from the Sangsang Madang Stay, another walked over from the Ethiopian Korean War memorial.
  • Several posts follow the same polished template, and one ends with a #sponsored tag; eight say they paid themselves. The Centennial Shop title, the 1990 founding date and the domestic-ingredients claim are the restaurant's own billing, which we report but haven't checked.
