Moana Burger

모아나버거 Moana Beogeo Moana is a Polynesian word for the open sea and the name of Disney's ocean-going heroine; the shop dresses itself as a Hawaiian beach burger stand, and several bloggers said the owner looks like the character.

Moana Burger is a handmade-burger shop in Gangneung. It now trades at 228-33 Nanseolheon-ro in Chodang-dong: four posts from September-October 2026 describe indoor tables plus terrace seating, the Moana Burger at 14,000 won, the Hawaiian at 15,000 and the Moana Double at 17,000, each with fries, and canned drinks and draught beer on sale. One couple paid 33,000 won for two burgers and two drinks. Before that, the April-May 2026 posts describe a stand at 332 Bangdong-gil, across the road from Sacheon Beach next to a GS25, with outdoor tables only; prices were then 13,000, 14,000 and 15,000 won and no soft drinks were sold, so people bought them at the convenience store next door. We read 30 posts dated 27 April to 19 October 2026; after setting aside two that were about other places, 27 describe an actual visit.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Eighteen posts mention outdoor seating, seventeen of them from the Sacheon Beach days, when there was no indoor seating at all; eight counted four tables under parasols. Three posts from rainy days could not sit down: two took the food away and one ate in the car. One post from after the move to Chodang-dong describes both terrace seats and comfortable indoor tables.
  2. Twenty-four posts mention the shop's own dog, a golden retriever called Yeoreum ("Summer"); several say it lay still while children petted it, and two posts saw a second dog, a husky. All four posts from the new Chodang-dong shop still mention the retriever. Eight posts say customers may bring their own dogs.
  3. Eighteen posts describe juice running from the patty and nine call it thick. Six said it was not greasy and three that it was not too salty. Many were told to put on the plastic gloves provided and press the tall burger down before biting.
  4. Eight posts say the kitchen is open to view and five that burgers are cooked only once ordered; two watched flames on the griddle. Of the five posts that called the place clean, three said so after looking into that kitchen.

  1. At the beach stand only beer was sold; for anything else customers were sent to the GS25 next door, which many posts say the same owner runs (something they were told). The Chodang-dong shop sells cans at 2,500 won and Suntory and Budweiser on draught, with 2,000 won off draught beer alongside a burger, according to three posts. Ten posts in all mention beer for sale.
  2. Five posts went with children. One, visiting with a baby niece, says the owner turned the music down for the child; another says the burger was mild enough for their child to eat. By company: six posts with a partner or spouse, five with family, one with a friend.
  3. Eight posts call the couple who run it friendly. Nine say an order comes with wet wipes, plastic gloves and a plumeria hairpin; one post noted the pin was given only to women.
  4. Two posts waited: one arrived at 10:50 to find six groups already queuing and said things ease by 11:30; another found people ahead of them despite arriving at opening. One post arrived around 11:30 and took the last of the four tables. All of this is from the beach stand; nobody wrote about waiting at the Chodang-dong shop.

Posts saying you can park13 of 27 posts

Thirteen posts parked, or say you can park, right in front, twelve of them at the beach stand. The seven that gave a number said three cars (four posts), three or four (two) and four counting the space in front of the GS25 (one), with overflow behind the shop or in side streets. For the Chodang-dong shop, one post says there is parking out front.

Getting inside

Toilet insideyes 0 · no 4 (of 27 posts read)

Nobody mentioned floors. The beach stand was all outdoor tables, and no post says which floor the Chodang-dong shop is on or whether there are stairs. That means no one wrote about it, not that there are none.

Nobody wrote about a step at the entrance or getting in with a wheelchair or pushchair; one post only notes that the Chodang-dong shop's folding front doors were open.

The beach stand had no toilet of its own; four posts say you used the public toilets across the road by the beach. Nobody has written about toilets at the Chodang-dong shop.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 28 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • The shop has moved. Posts up to May 2026 give 332 Bangdong-gil, Sacheon-myeon; posts from September give 228-33 Nanseolheon-ro, Chodang-dong. Both sets link the same Naver listing and mention the same retriever and phone number, so we treat them as one business. No post states the move outright, so we only know it happened between June and September. Most of what is said above about outdoor seating, parking, toilets and queues describes the old site.
  • Prices have gone up. April-May 2026 posts list the Moana Burger at 13,000 won, the Hawaiian at 14,000, the Double at 15,000 and buffalo wings at 15,000; September-October posts list 14,000, 15,000, 17,000 and 16,000. Chili-bean wedges went from 12,000 to 14,000. Three posts called the prices fair, all before the rise.
  • Opening hours depend on the period. All four Chodang-dong posts give 11:00-21:00, closed Tuesdays, three adding last orders at 20:30, though all four copied this from an info block. At the beach stand hours were 11:00-18:00 and closing days varied by post: Tuesdays closed (8), open Friday-Sunday only (5), open Friday-Monday in mid-April (1), closed Wednesdays (1). Almost every post warns it closes early when ingredients run out; one heard it had shut at 3 pm the day before.
  • Several posts advise phoning ahead because it sells out. Nine give the number 010-7375-5081, and one suggests phoning in a takeaway order. Whether you can book a table appears only in copied info blocks; no one wrote from experience.
  • Only one post gave bus directions: routes 930, 931 or 934, or the city bus, from Gyeongpo Beach to the Sacheon Beach stop, then a three-minute walk. That was for the old site; nobody has described public transport to the Chodang-dong shop.
  • Five posts disclose sponsorship. Around twenty May 2026 posts share the same title phrase ("Gangneung Sacheon Beach burger spot") and hashtags, and more than ten tag it as a "coastal-road date burger", which suggests commissioned copy. One post says it was a sponsored visit and then calls it self-paid in its verdict.
