Jeongseon Myeonok is a noodle house at 35 Bongyang 5-gil in Jeongseon-eup, in the middle of Bongyang-ri between the Arirang market and the county office. Its jang-kalguksu is built on soybean paste, not chilli paste — fourteen of the nineteen writers who ate here lead with that difference, and fifteen of them ordered it. It is 9,000 won, with potato, courgette and thinly sliced young cabbage in it, and four writers believe the noodles are cut in house. The board changes with the season: the cold buckwheat noodles run April to October, the dumpling dishes November to March, and only the jang-kalguksu is there all year (see below). Alongside are boiled pork at 40,000 won, a spring-onion pancake at 12,000 and grilled tofu at 12,000. It opens at 10:30 and closes at 20:00, but closes earlier when the food runs out — seven writers say so. The registered floor area is 50.87 m²: four or five tables of four in the hall, one for two, a shoes-off floor room at the back, and an annexe through the side door that opens on busy days. There is no car park and the toilet is outside the building (see below). It is a government-designated Baengnyeon Gage — a shop of at least thirty years in the same place — and has held Blue Ribbon listings for several years. We read nineteen posts, from March 2025 to September 2026.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.
What sets it apart
- One small hall plus a shoes-off floor room at the back — five writers mention the floor seating and three counted the tables, in figures that agree. March 2025: four tables of four and one of two in the hall, three shoes-off tables of four in the room. August 2025: five tables of four and two floor tables. January 2026: five tables in the hall and two rooms off either side. Which you take is a matter of taste. One writer found the hall bright and well lit and the floor room snugger and more traditional, and liked having the choice; another noted the floor tables and declared firmly for chairs. A winter visitor mentions a heated room to sit in. Since the floor room exists, you can ask for the hall if kneeling is difficult.
- It is small. But an annexe opens on busy days. Four writers call it small — not especially roomy, modest in scale, compact though neat, and most plainly: *going in, I was thrown by how few tables there were.* The registered floor area, 50.87 m², agrees. That is not the whole of it. The writer who was thrown found the answer on her way to the toilet: there was more space back there, which explained why a place this popular had so few seats, and she guessed it opens when there are enough customers. Others saw the same — a dining space like an annexe through the side door, and another writer, finding the annexe open, called the place really quite large. So the two who wrote "roomy" and the four who wrote "small" were looking at the same restaurant — the difference may simply be whether the annexe was open.
- It is cooked after you order, so you wait — though how long depends who you ask. One writer notes that everything is made to order and takes a little time, and reads that as care. Another had her jang-kalguksu ten minutes after ordering. Against them, a writer describes an elderly couple running the place and the food coming out a bit slowly, while a fourth says hers arrived quickly. Three people probably watched the same ten minutes and felt it differently. On the noodles they converge: unevenly thick in a way that reads as hand-cut and endearing; flat and wide and chewy, clearly hand-mixed; one writer suspects the owner is a master of boiling noodles. And the sides seem to be made as they go — one writer walked in on ingredients being trimmed.
- The free sides are spare, two or three dishes, and the kimchi among them is the quiet star — eleven posts single it out and two asked for more. The line-up varies: kimchi, seasoned radish and pickled radish wraps; pickled radish, kimchi and young-radish kimchi; cabbage kimchi and mustard-leaf kimchi; or simply "two dishes". Four name the mustard-leaf kimchi, one calling it a flavour she had not met before and asking for a refill. Writers describe it as mild and cooling — the Gangwon taste — and one simply repeats the word kimchi twice and says it is genuinely good. It is not always there — a writer who came having seen the mustard-leaf kimchi on television found none that day. You can also ask for more of the radish brine that comes with the cold noodles; one writer liked it enough to ask, and was handed a kettle.
- No takeaway, and no outside food brought in. A writer in August 2025 records both. She is the only one who does; the other eighteen say nothing about it. That is consistent with a small house selling noodles in broth, but we note that it rests on one account. One excluded recap lists takeaway as an amenity — copied from the Naver listing.
- Five posts call it clean, and one writer got as far as the water bottles. The refrain is that the fittings are old but the room is tidy; the fullest account notes that even the mouths of the water bottles were looked after, and reads that as a house that attends to small things. Another lists what sits on each table: vinegar for the cold noodles, pepper for the dumpling soup, spoons, paper cups, tissues. The outside seems to have been redone and the inside left alone — one writer describes an orange-roofed single-storey building whose exterior looks new while the interior is unchanged. Two writers mention the glass: a window wall that opens, which one enjoyed in the rain, and good light in the hall.
- One writer checked the origin board. In August 2025 she reports almost everything Korean, kimchi included, and adds the obvious point that kimchi matters when you are eating noodles. She is the only one of the nineteen to have looked, so we do not know how far "almost everything" extends. That is all we took from it

There is no car park of its own. Five writers say so, and the only post claiming otherwise is an excluded TV recap which asserts a dedicated lot in front — it is wrong. The roadside is an enforcement zone. Two writers point this out, one adding that you can leave a car in front during the grace hours when enforcement pauses. Two others simply parked in front or in the lane, one putting it as "out front, or nearby, using your judgement". These are the car parks people actually used: the county office visitors' lot (three minutes' walk, free at weekends); the public lot beside the county office, free, a hundred metres and a minute's walk; the Arirang market public lot or the culture and arts centre lot, recommended by another; and the space beside the farmers' hall, favoured by a writer spending the day at the market. One writer says only "within eighty metres". Which is nearest depends on who you ask, so we have not picked one.

Nobody wrote about getting in with a wheelchair or a pushchair. Across nineteen posts there is nothing about a step, a ramp or a doorway width, and the word wheelchair never appears. What the posts do establish. In favour: one writer describes an orange-roofed single-storey building, and there is no mention anywhere of an upstairs or a basement. Against: there is no car park, so it is a hundred metres or more on foot from a public lot; the toilet is in an outbuilding, reached by going outside and through a black gate; and the back room is shoes-off floor seating (the hall has chairs). At a registered 50.87 m² it is small, and no writer describes generous gaps between tables. Whether there is a step at the door, how wide the doorway is, whether the toilet can be entered — we do not know. If it matters, it is worth phoning 033-562-2233.
The toilet is not inside the building. You go out and into an outbuilding — three writers describe it, and their accounts agree. The fullest: out of the front door, right, through a black gate into the annexe; clean enough, with the men's and women's divided within the one block. Another says through the black gate, over by the hydrangeas. A third went out of the entrance and straight in through a side door, and while she would have preferred one indoors, she remembers it as not bad. One more post says there is a toilet, but that line is copied from the Naver listing and we did not count it. Nobody wrote how many cubicles, or how much room.
No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 24 posts we gathered, 8 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- Eleven of the thirty posts we collected about this place were not visit accounts. Here is why, and where they are wrong. On 12 November 2025 the tvN STORY programme *Namgyeoseo Mwohage* filmed here. Recaps followed, and seven of our thirty posts are recaps — two days later, three days later (twice), a week later, and as much as ten months later. None records a meal; all copy prices and hours from, as one of them admits, "recent online listing information". Three were list posts covering four, nine and nine other restaurants, and we rejected them outright; one was a scraped information sheet; one was a sponsored walking-tour post in which this restaurant appears in a single line naming old shops. Those posts contain errors, which we set down here. If you see these figures elsewhere, do not trust them. · Address and phone: one gives "Bongyang 4-gil 19" and "033-563-1133". Twenty-one posts and the municipal register give Bongyang 5-gil 35 and 033-562-2233. · Parking: one claims a dedicated car park in front. All five writers who actually drove there say there is none. · The pork: one describes it as a spicy stir-fry. It is a slab of pork belly, boiled and sliced — even the other recaps say so. · Prices: five posts put the jang-kalguksu and the cold noodle at 8,000 won. Six writers who ate and paid, between September 2025 and August 2026, all wrote 9,000. · Hours: one gives a 22:00 closing, another a 09:00 opening. All twelve writers who went say 10:30 to 20:00. The figures "opened 1982", "43 years", "44 years" also come from the broadcast and spread from there. Writers who visited repeated them, but none checked independently. What we can say is only that the Baengnyeon Gage designation is given to shops trading at least thirty years in the same location.
- Do not arrive at eight because it closes at eight. Seven writers record that it shuts early when the food runs out. Two of them advise phoning first, one noting that a place this busy often closes ahead of time. Someone did miss out. A writer who went in June 2026 wanted the spring-onion pancake and was told the ingredients had gone. Know too that the board changes with the season — eight writers say so. The cold buckwheat noodles, plain and sauced, run April to October; the dumpling soup and the drained dumplings run November to March. The jang-kalguksu is there all year. A February 2026 visitor was told the sauced cold noodle is not sold in winter, and a December visitor signed off wondering about the summer noodles. The line is not drawn sharply, though — a writer in early June 2026 was served the winter dumplings.
- No post records a wait. Exactly one writer addresses queueing at all, and it is to say she did not queue — she had braced for it and was seated at once (May 2026, lunch before climbing Mindungsan). Two accounts come close: a January 2026 visitor found a steady stream of customers at weekday lunch and was struck that nearly all were locals; a September 2026 couple came at three, off the meal hours, and ate at their leisure. One writer says she had wondered about the place because it always looked busy in passing. The warnings about long queues appear only in the excluded recaps, which speak of lines at lunch and dinner since the broadcast. Those are not visit accounts, so we did not count them. So we do not know whether people queue here. What does look like the bigger risk is the early closing described above.
- Nobody wrote how to get here by bus or train. Across nineteen posts there is no stop name, no route number, no walking time from a station. Three phrases place it: in front of the Arirang market, near the county office, near the five-day market. And one walking distance appears — a hundred metres, one minute, from the public car park beside the county office. We can say it is in the middle of the town between the market and the county office, and no more. A figure of "about ten minutes' walk from the station" circulates, but it appears only in an excluded recap — the same post whose prices and hours we decided not to trust, so we did not use this either. If you are coming without a car, you will have to check for yourself.
- The awards are counted differently in every post. Here are the figures as written. The Baengnyeon Gage designation appears in ten posts, the Blue Ribbon in eight. One writer explains the first correctly: a government certification for shops that have held the same location for at least thirty years and are judged excellent and viable. Another puts it more bluntly — the "hundred-year shop" is not a shop of a hundred years but one that might last a hundred, and thirty is the bar. The Blue Ribbon count varies: one ribbon (September 2026), four of them (December 2025), five consecutive years (August 2026), 2022 through 2025 (August 2025), and an excluded post says three consecutive years. They are presumably counting the stickers on the door differently, but we do not know which count is right. One writer also mentions a Siksin star. Nor is the verdict on the food single. Of the jang-kalguksu: she wants it again, she will return to Jeongseon for it, it was the most memorable stop of the trip. Of the cold noodle: Jeongseon's buckwheat was ordinary, a taste available anywhere, and from one writer, both dishes were so-so. She finished this way: still, the locals come, and it holds the designation and five years of ribbons, so plenty of people must think otherwise.
