Taebaek Dakgalbi
태백닭갈비 Taebaek is the old coal-mining town in Gangwon, and dakgalbi is spicy chicken; here it is the town's soupy 'mul dakgalbi', simmered in broth at the table.
Compiled from 22 blog posts read in fullSources →
A mul dakgalbi house on a side street in Hwangji-dong, Taebaek, near Hwangji Pond and the Hwangji free market. There is one dish — dakgalbi at 11,000 won a portion — bone-in chicken under a mound of cabbage and perilla leaves, boiled at the table, then finished with noodles (3,000 won) and fried rice. We read 30 posts from June 2025 to October 2026; 24 describe an actual visit, one was about a different restaurant, and five only compiled information.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.
What sets it apart
- Expect a line. Thirteen posts waited or saw one, giving 10, 20, 30 and over 40 minutes; one group found seven parties ahead at 6 pm on a Saturday and watched the house cut the line as the 7:30 last order neared. There are no numbered tickets — you simply stand in line. Three posts walked straight in, on a Friday lunch, a Friday evening and a weekend evening.
- One family, arriving at 11:30 on a Monday in early August 2026, queued just inside the door in the air-conditioning until staff called them. Another post that waited over 40 minutes on an August weekend stood outside in the sun with iced drinks from a convenience store.
- Six posts ordered and paid on a tablet at the table. Eight said the side dishes — kimchi, pickled radish, corn, salad — are refilled from a self-serve corner, and a June 2025 post got more vegetables and broth on request.
- Five posts said a staff member comes over and fries the rice in your pot; one said they ladle off extra broth first.
1 more
- Eight posts called it spicy — one put it at about Shin Ramyun level and struggled, another warned parents with kids; one found it only mildly hot. On salt, one post found it very salty and another found the fried rice under-seasoned.

Where it is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.
Getting inside
No post said which floor the restaurant is on — that is a gap in what was written, not a sign it is ground level.
Nobody wrote about a step at the entrance or wheelchair and stroller access. One post mentioned the lane in is narrow.
The only word on the toilet is one copied info line saying it is inside; no visitor described it, so we do not count it.
No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 27 posts we gathered, 5 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- Nine posts used the private lot beside the restaurant, but four called it tiny ('two or three cars') and only one called it roomy. Several found it full and parked on the street or a nearby lot; one parked at the Hwangji market public lot and walked five minutes.
- Four posts found the dining room spacious; one said it was not. One described seating on both sides of the room, every table a four-seater because of the gas burners.
- No post arrived by train or bus; '11 minutes' walk from Taebaek Station' appears only in a copied info line. Every visitor who said how they came drove.
- Opening hours appear only in info lines: eleven posts agree on 10:00-21:00, closed Wednesdays, and six give a 19:30 last order. One post lists 09:00 opening with a 20:30 last order, another says open every day.
- No post said whether you can reserve; a June 2025 post noted there is no app waitlist and you queue on site. Nine posts list the phone number 033-553-8119.
- Three posts called the price reasonable and none called it expensive. Two portions plus noodles and fried rice comes to roughly 28,000 won for two, though posts disagree on whether the fried rice is 3,000 or 2,000 won.
