Eommason Taebaek Muldakgalbi
엄마손태백물닭갈비 Eommason means 'mother's hands', the Korean shorthand for home cooking; Taebaek muldakgalbi is the town's brothy version of spicy chicken galbi, simmered at the table rather than stir-fried.

Eommason sits in a lane just behind Hwangji Pond in Taebaek, in a converted detached house, and serves one thing: Taebaek-style muldakgalbi, chicken galbi simmered in broth at the table. You pick mild or spicy, add noodles (udon, jjolmyeon, ramyeon, glass noodles) and finish by frying rice in what is left. Posts that ate there recorded 11,000 won per serving and 3,000 won each for add-ons and fried rice (January and August 2026). We read 30 posts from October 2025 to October 2026; 23 are first-hand meals, and the other 7 list the place in round-ups or travel itineraries.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.
What sets it apart
- Expect to wait. Ten of the 23 first-hand posts mention a queue, and the times they give are 15, 20, 20, 30, 30 and 30–40 minutes. Two walked straight in, on a weekday evening and around 2 pm on a Saturday. Five explain that you take a numbered tag yourself from a board just inside the door; three mention waiting benches out front. One post was held up by a tour-bus group arriving all at once.
- Even the mild version reads as hot. Eleven posts called it spicy or peppery, and five of those had ordered mild and still found it fairly hot. Two were less sure either way. Both posts with children ordered plain seaweed rice because the broth was too hot for the kids. One was told half-and-half isn't possible; two asked for something between mild and spicy.
- Staff help with the pot: seven posts say someone cuts the large chicken pieces with scissors once it boils, or fries the rice and scrapes up the crust. One post says they leave you alone after serving, yet still fried and scraped the rice for them.
- Four posts say sikhye, a sweet rice drink, arrives free near the end of the meal — described as homemade, once as pumpkin sikhye, and once as unlimited refills.
2 more
- Seven posts found it roomier inside than it looks from the lane. Two sat at low tables in a heated floor room rather than at regular tables.
- Four posts mention tables outside under a tent. One mistook them for waiting seats; another ate outside in late July 2025 when the inside was full and found it cool enough, Taebaek being high up.

One post says there is no lot of its own and paid about 3,000 won for two hours at a nearby private lot; four others simply parked at the Hwangji Pond public lot or a paid lot nearby. 'No parking' appears only in copied info boxes, which we did not count. Five posts arrived by car.

Getting inside
Nobody describes the floor level. The address says ground floor and posts call it a detached building, but we don't know whether there are steps. One post notes the front entrance faces Hwangji Pond and the back one opens onto the lane by Hanmaeum clinic.
Nobody says whether there is a step at the door or whether a wheelchair or stroller gets in — we simply don't know. Two posts sat in a floor-seating room and one mentions a shoe rack by the entrance, but which areas require taking shoes off is unclear.
Only one post mentions a toilet, and only that it was told there is another one beside the outdoor tent. We don't know whether there is one inside or whether it is separated by gender.
No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 29 posts we gathered, 7 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
| 2026-10-05 | 2 posts in one day |

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- One post came by public transport, taking an intercity bus to Taebaek terminal and walking from there. Nobody says how many minutes it is on foot from the station or terminal.
- Groups are the most common company (four posts, including a hiking-club after-party), then family (two), a couple (one) and friends (one). No one went alone. Several posts note tour-bus and group-booking crowds.
- Two posts differ on cooling: a late-July 2025 visit describes an air-conditioned dining room, while an August 2026 visit found the air conditioning off and windows open — and still comfortable. We can't tell whether anything changed.
- One post dissents: a tour group made it very noisy, a foreign staff member spoke curtly, the broth tasted like gamjatang with chicken, and they'd choose beef next time.
- Prices: posts that ate there recorded 11,000 won per serving from menus and receipts (January, February and August 2026). Round-up posts copy 9,000 or 10,000 won and 2,000-won add-ons of unknown date, which we set aside. One post overheard locals saying prices had jumped since the place got famous — hearsay we didn't count. One post called the price fair. Two servings plus one noodle add-on and one fried rice came to about 28,000 won on a January 2026 receipt.
- Opening hours come only from copied info boxes, not experience. Eleven of 12 give 10 am to 10 pm (eight say daily); one gives 10:30 to 21:30. One lists a 15:30–17:00 break and no closing day. Nobody records a last-order time here.
- The phone number 033-554-3344 appears in 13 posts; one notes the city's safe-restaurant listing shows 033-553-5488 instead. Phone reservations are mentioned only in copied info boxes — no one booked — though two posts saw group reservations being seated.
- Some posts look templated. Two January 2026 posts follow nearly the same script — dropping by on an errand, outdoor tent tables, a tour group just leaving, curiosity about the gondeure makgeolli. Their details differ so we counted both, but they may be the same writer. Four 'best 10' round-ups with leftover template markup were not counted as visits.
