Gangneung Kaljebi

강릉칼제비 Kaljebi is a portmanteau of kalguksu (knife-cut noodles) and sujebi (hand-torn dough flakes) — the bowls here carry both in one.

Compiled from 27 blog posts read in fullSources →

A kaljebi restaurant — knife-cut noodles and hand-torn dough flakes in one bowl — on the second floor of 451 Changhae-ro, facing Gyeongpo and Gangmun beaches. The menu centres on squid bibim kaljebi (14,000 won a person), seafood kaljebi (13,000) and shredded-potato pancake (15,000); a set of squid bibim for two plus the pancake is 43,000. You order from a tablet or kiosk and fetch side dishes from a self-serve bar, and writers keep mentioning the sea seen through the pines from the window seats. We read 30 posts from 27 August to 27 October 2026; 27 of them record an actual meal.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Heat is the most-discussed point. Twelve posts found the squid bibim spicy, two said it was not, and four described it without a verdict. One writer called it brutally hot; a family gave up halfway. Several recommend adding cheese — one said they could not have eaten it otherwise — and one writer asked for it milder and got it.
  2. Waiting depends on the hour. Five posts waited or saw a line; five walked straight in — on a Monday at 2:40 pm, a Saturday evening, and just after lunch. One writer got in at 12:30 on a holiday but found a line outside when leaving after 1 pm; two found three groups ahead on summer weekday lunches. There is no waitlist app: people queue on the stairs.
  3. Nine posts found the portions large and two found them small — one at closing time, the other a solo diner who found the seafood sparse.
  4. Six posts mention a one-dish-per-person rule; one family was told small children were exempt. Several note seafood kaljebi can be ordered as a single portion.

  1. Four writers ate here with their dogs. The rule that dogs must be in a carrier or stroller and large dogs are refused comes from the shop's own notice.
  2. Seven posts came with family, six as a couple, one alone and one as a group of four. Five brought children, and four noted high chairs.

Parking

Posts saying you can park4 of 27 posts

Parking is in the public beachfront lot in front. Four writers parked there themselves; one had to park far away, only to see spaces free up meanwhile. The word 'free' mostly comes from copied listing text, so we do not rely on it.

Getting inside

Second floor11 of 27 posts
Step-free accessyes 0 · no 1 (of 27 posts read)
Separate restroomsyes 0 · no 1 (of 27 posts read)

The restaurant is up a flight of stairs on the second floor; eleven posts say so, and two note a raw-fish restaurant on the ground floor. One writer had to carry a pet stroller up the stairs, and a parent warned that the stairs are steep.

No post says a wheelchair or stroller can get in. One writer carried a pet stroller up the stairs; another only noted the stairway entrance might be hard for strollers and wheelchairs. Nobody mentions a lift either way — that means no one wrote about it, not that there isn't one — and nobody mentions a step at the door.

Only one post mentions the toilet: inside the building, not separated by sex. Whether it is inside the restaurant itself we cannot tell.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 30 posts we gathered, 3 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Only one writer came by public transport, getting off the express bus at Gyeongpo Beach and walking along the shore. The 'three minutes from the city bus stop' line is copied from the shop's listing.
  • Thirteen posts give hours; twelve agree on 10:30 am to 10 pm daily, last order 9 pm, mostly copied from the listing. One says 10 am to 8 pm. A writer who came around 8 pm was asked to move for closing-time cleaning and complained about it.
  • Prices were identical across posts from August to October 2026. A party of four paid about 70,000 won for the set, a seafood kaljebi and cheese. Three posts called it reasonably priced; one felt the money was wasted. Four got a free drink for posting a receipt review.
  • Many posts list the phone number, mostly copied from the listing. Nobody says whether reservations are taken; one writer simply walked in without one.
  • Staff impressions split one to one: one post found them friendly, another disliked how they were looked at on the way out. One writer's forgotten cheese was brought afterwards.
  • We did not count three posts: a generic write-up with no meal, an itinerary that only suggests the place, and a top-ten list. The 'Lee Jang-woo's pick' banners outside are the shop's own promotion and are not used as evidence.
