Jeongdongjin Bapjip

정동진밥집 Bapjip simply means a rice house, a plain place for a home-style meal; the name says it is the rice house of Jeongdongjin.

Compiled from 15 blog posts read in fullSources →

A home-style rice house in an old country house beside the railway near Jeongdongjin Station (46 Jeongdong 3-gil, Gangdong-myeon, Gangneung). There are three sets, grilled fish, spicy pork and stir-fried squid, each 18,000 won per person with a two-portion minimum. Thirteen of the fifteen visit posts had the fish set: mackerel, Atka mackerel and herring (saury in one post), served with a crowd of side dishes and soft tofu soup. There is a yard with raised wooden platforms outside, and the walls inside are covered in guests' graffiti. We read 28 posts dated 14 January to 19 October 2026; 11 were about other restaurants that share the search phrase (10 for Sonamujip, 1 for Imone Sikdang) and were set aside, leaving 15 visits.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. This is hard to do alone. Six posts say the sets start at two portions. One couple wanted one fish set and one pork set and was told no, so they ordered two fish; a parent travelling with one child had to order two portions every time and left a lot over. Two posts add that anyone aged eight or over must order their own meal.
  2. Seven posts mention outdoor seating: tables by the soy-sauce crocks and wooden platforms under an awning, though July and August visitors sat inside to escape the heat. Two say you take your shoes off to go in, and three describe floor seating. One called it all floor seating and laid a six-month-old on the floor during the meal; another described floor seating by the entrance and wooden tables further in, so the accounts differ. One found the low ceiling uncomfortable.
  3. You order from a screen: four posts ordered on a kiosk or a tablet at the table.
  4. Six posts came with children. One ordered a single extra bowl of rice and the staff split it into two for the two kids; another ordered two portions and was brought three bowls of rice and three of tofu soup. One post points out side dishes a child can eat, such as tofu, pumpkin and fish-cake stir-fry.

  1. Seven posts call the staff kind. In one, the owner noticed the side dishes running low and offered more before being asked; three posts say they got more side dishes or rice on request. A September 2026 visitor ate on a hot day with the air conditioning broken, and the owner brought free drinks to thank them for not complaining.

Parking

4 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

Posts saying you can park4 of 15 posts

Four posts saw the car park for themselves, tucked behind the building, and three called it large; an October 2026 post found a fairly big gravel lot with several cars in it. Three more posts only copied 'parking available' from the listing, and we did not count those.

Where it is

Map showing where Jeongdongjin Bapjip is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside

No post says what floor it is on. Posts keep calling it an old house, but we do not know the layout.

Nobody mentions a step at the entrance or getting in with a wheelchair or pushchair. Several posts describe shoes-off floor seating, so check ahead.

Two posts say the toilet is clean, but nobody says whether it is inside the restaurant or separated by gender.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 17 posts we gathered, 2 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Not everyone was won over: two posts found it ordinary, one saying the taste was nothing special and the other that the grilled fish was average. Four posts say it is not salty.
  • Ten posts give opening hours, mostly copied from the listing: seven say 09:00 to 20:00 and two say 09:30 to 20:00. Six say it is closed on Tuesdays and four give a 15:00 to 16:00 break. Last orders are at 19:30 in four posts and 19:00 in one. Some posts add that it can open at 09:30 on public holidays and closes early when food runs out.
  • All three sets cost 18,000 won per person, the same in a 2025 visit and an October 2026 post. With the two-portion minimum, a meal costs at least 36,000 won. Two posts list a tofu set at 13,000 won; nobody wrote down prices for extra fish or drinks. One January 2026 post found the prices fair for a tourist spot.
  • Six posts give the phone number, 033-645-8838. One post copies the restaurant's note that group meals must be arranged in advance; nobody says whether a table for two or three can be reserved.
  • No post mentions waiting for a table. That does not mean there is no wait, only that nobody wrote about one. A September 2026 post says the food took a while because the place was busy.
  • Nobody describes the walk from the station or a bus stop. One post took a taxi from Jeongdongjin Station, another walked from their lodging and crossed the railway on foot, and two drove.
  • Ten posts from 12 to 19 October 2026 are about Sonamujip at Heonhwa-ro 778 and only share the phrase 'Jeongdongjin bapjip'. They follow one template, with the same subheadings and wording and no prices or times, and we set all of them aside.
