Jeonwon Sikdang
전원식당 Jeonwon means the countryside — fields and gardens — and sikdang simply means restaurant.
Compiled from 20 blog posts read in fullSources →
A small, old-fashioned restaurant at Yeonggeumjeong-ro 15 in Sokcho, between Dongmyeong Port and the Yeonggeumjeong pavilion. Every writer calls it Jeonwon Sikdang (it is registered as New Jeonwon Sikdang). Crowds arrived after singer Sung Si-kyung featured it on his show in May 2024, and today it effectively sells one dish: kimchi duruchigi, ₩15,000 per person with a two-person minimum, served with doenjang stew, rice and about five side dishes. Takeaway is ₩13,000 per person. You stop by early in the morning, get a slip with a number and a time, and come back then to eat. We read 27 posts from August 2025 to October 2026: two were about other places, five were lists or copied information, and twenty were first-hand visits (three of them took the food away and ate at their lodging).

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.
What sets it apart
- Expect to wait around lunchtime: sixteen posts waited, three did not. Instead of a line, the staff hand out numbers from 6:50 or 7 a.m.; you say how many and what time, and they write it on a Post-it. Writers who came at 7 a.m. on a Sunday got 11:50, at about 7:30 got 11:00, at just after 9 on a Sunday got 10:50, and at about 11 on a weekend got 12:50. One who came at 2 p.m. found lunch full and booked dinner; one who came at 4:20 p.m. found dine-in already closed and took food away. The three who walked straight in came around 11 on a Monday, at 9:58 on a Friday, and at 5:30 p.m. on a Friday.
- Fourteen posts said the portion is big. One said an order for two came out closer to four servings, and two saw neighbouring tables pack up leftovers or bring their own containers. Another advised ordering an extra bowl of rice. Only one post disagreed, saying it was mostly kimchi and the meat did not feel especially plentiful.
- Writers describe the sourness of aged kimchi with sweetness on top. Eight posts called it sweet; one takeaway customer found it far too sweet, and another wrote simply that it was too sweet. Four called it spicy and one said it was not very spicy. Two said it was heavily seasoned.
- A fair number of writers felt it did not live up to the hype: five called it ordinary and four said they would not wait for it again. On the other side, three posts were from people who had come back at least once (one has taken it away many times). Several suggested takeaway as a way to skip the wait.

- It is small. Counts of tables ran 6–7, seven groups, seven tables, six four-tops, eight or nine four-tops, and two standard plus five floor tables (two posts). Eight posts mention floor seating, and one says the floor room is shoes-off. Six called the place small, one said there were more seats than expected. One writer asked for a table rather than floor seating, and a pregnant writer was shown to a table by the owner.
- Food arrives fast because it is ladled from a big pot or wok cooked in advance. Five posts noticed it was pre-made and six said it came quickly — two said about five minutes. One takeaway customer was disappointed that it was not packed straight after cooking.
- Takeaway is ₩13,000 per person, cheaper than eating in; three posts said so. One put the saving at ₩2,000, one said a ₩1,000 container fee is added, and one said takeaway is ₩1,000 cheaper. Two posts said takeaway comes without the doenjang stew (one got only stir-fried fish cake as a side), and one said in the evening they stop once the day's batch runs out. One writer paid with Sokcho's local gift-voucher QR.

Parking

There is no parking lot — eleven posts said so, and eleven came by car. Some pulled over briefly in an alley or on the roadside; others used the Sokcho Port Support Center lot, a lot by Yeonggeumjeong (about a five-minute walk), or the coast-guard and ferry-terminal lots. One writer said the restaurant sits right on the road with nowhere even to stop, and recommended walking.

Where it is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.
Getting inside
No one said what floor it is on or whether there are stairs. That means nobody mentioned it, not that there are none.
Nobody wrote about a step at the door or getting in with a wheelchair or stroller. One post said the floor room is shoes-off, and one family said they only do takeaway because eating in with their children is hard.
Nobody mentioned the toilet — whether it is inside or separated by gender.
No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 25 posts we gathered, 5 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
| 2026-10-07 | 3 posts in one day |

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- No one arrived by bus or train. The only claim of easy public transport is in one introduction post with no sign of a visit, so we treat it as copied and do not count it. Several writers walked to and from the Yeonggeumjeong pavilion.
- Sixteen posts give hours; fifteen say 9:00–19:00 with a break from 14:30 to 17:00. Twelve say it closes Wednesdays and Thursdays, and four differ: one says 9:00–20:00 and closed Thursdays, one closed Wednesdays only, one Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and one from Wednesday afternoon through Thursday. Three give last orders at 18:00. One writer noted that since only booked slots are served, it effectively finishes around 6 p.m. Many of these hours are copied from Naver or similar.
- Two phone numbers appear: 010-5505-4881 (three posts) and 033-633-0282 (two posts, one calling it the booking and enquiries line). Booking a meal means going in person for a time slot; two posts said there is no remote queueing. One writer phoned ahead to order takeaway.
- The board still lists braised and spicy jangchi (₩65,000 large / ₩35,000 small), chicken stew (₩60,000), sandfish stew and kimchi stew, but writers say only duruchigi is served now. One said the other dishes disappeared after the TV feature and another that the menu used to be varied, while one called the rest seasonal and another thought it was duruchigi-only in peak season — so we cannot tell whether the other dishes are gone for good. The only prices for them come from one menu copied in July 2026.
