Mancheonri Sanghoe

만천리상회 Mancheon-ri is the village in Dong-myeon, Chuncheon, where the restaurant stands, and sanghoe is an old word for a village general store.

Compiled from 29 blog posts read in fullSources →

A perilla-oil buckwheat noodle house at 50 Geumbei-gil in Mancheon-ri, Dong-myeon, on the edge of Chuncheon. The perilla seeds are pressed in a small mill in the yard; you walk past a mocked-up old farmhouse and a wood-fired hearth to eat in a bright, modern white hall. Perilla-oil noodles are 14,000 won, with cold or spicy noodles at 13,000, a perilla-seed dumpling soup, and half plates of meat patties (16,000) or boiled pork (17,000) as sides. Fourteen posts say staff or the owner came round with a spoonful of freshly pressed oil to taste. We read 30 posts dated July 8 to October 23, 2026; 29 describe an actual meal. Most were written after the name appeared on Sung Si-kyung's YouTube show on July 24 (several posts note it was the Cheongdam branch that was filmed).

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

What sets it apart

  1. Expect to wait at weekend lunch. Ten posts say they queued; three walked straight in. One arrived at 12:30 on a Saturday and waited 10 minutes; another, same time, had four parties ahead. On the holiday weekend one post arrived 15 minutes before opening and was second on the list; another got in third at 11:00 and found a queue when leaving at 11:40. You write your name in a sign-up book at the entrance, and seven posts mention a waiting area: shaded seats, tables between the main hall and the annex, a furnished old-style room.
  2. Dogs eat in a separate annex. Seven posts saw or used the pet space. Posted rules: 10 kg or under, proof of vaccination, carrier or crate indoors. One post arrived with a dog and was told the annex needs booking — even a day ahead would have done — so the dog waited in the car. One annex diner ordered by kiosk and took drinks from a fridge; a diner in the main hall ordered from staff.
  3. The main hall is bright: seven posts mention big windows, three a high ceiling, four a spacious room. Four mention outdoor tables in the yard. Eighteen posts call it clean, three of them on the strength of the restrooms. One notes long tables with chairs only — no floor seating.
  4. Five posts came with children. Two mention high chairs, and four say staff brought a child's bowl or tray unasked. One warns the suction tray grips hard — they spilled food prying it off.
3 more
  1. Opinions split on the spicy noodles: three posts found them hot (one 'really spicy'), one barely so. The perilla dishes read as gently seasoned — three posts say not salty, three say not greasy, while one found the oil-plus-patties combination cloying by the end.
  2. A half plate of meat patties is three pieces for 16,000 won. Five posts mention them running with juice; two call them thick.
  3. Eight posts call the staff kind, including the parking attendants; one got a kimchi refill at once. One post, asking for more cold-noodle broth, was first told no, then given another bowl anyway.

Posts saying you can park17 of 29 posts

Parking is mostly painless. Seventeen posts parked on site and eight mention an attendant guiding them to a space. Four called the lot large; one called it a bit tight. It fills at peak: one post found it full by 11:40, another said tour buses made parking hard after a Saturday lunch.

Getting inside

Toilet inside2 of 29 posts
Separate restrooms1 of 29 posts

No post says what floor you eat on or whether there are steps; there is only the '1F' in the address and one description of a low building. That means nobody wrote it down, not that there is nothing to know.

No post describes a step at the door or getting in with a wheelchair or stroller. One copied the listing's 'wheelchair-accessible entrance', which we do not count. We also don't know what the path from the lot through the yard to the main hall is like.

Only two posts say the restroom is inside and one that it is split by sex; another mentions an outdoor restroom too. Nobody mentions an accessible restroom.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 30 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Two posts say it is hard to reach without a car; one took 20 minutes by car from Namchuncheon Station. No post came by bus.
  • Most posts list opening hours of 11:00-20:30, a 15:00-17:00 break, last orders at 14:30 and 20:00, closed Wednesdays — largely copied from the listing. Four say there is no break at weekends. Two give 09:30 as opening time, which conflicts with three posts that actually turned up for an 11:00 opening.
  • Prices differ between July and later. The July 8 post lists spicy noodles at 12,000 won and the dumpling soup at 15,000; menu boards photographed from September 4 show 13,000 and 16,000. With only one July post, and three October posts still quoting the lower figures, we can't say for sure it was a rise. Two people paid 30,000 won for two noodle bowls and a cola. One post found prices on the high side; another thought the patties pricey until tasting them.
  • Many posts give the same phone number, 033-256-1002. Whether regular tables can be booked appears only in the listing; nobody wrote about making a reservation. Three posts say the dog annex needs booking in advance.
  • Posts disagree on which branch is the original: most say Chuncheon, with Cheongdam the offshoot; one says the reverse. The story that the owner of Todamgol in Cheongdam opened it is hearsay, and we don't rely on it. Three posts disclose sponsorship, one a free voucher, seven say they paid; the three sponsored posts and two undisclosed ones share the same hashtag set and running order.
