Heundeulbawi

흔들바위 Heundeulbawi means 'rocking boulder', after the famous balancing rock on Seoraksan; one post says the owner named the restaurant that way because he loves Seoraksan.

A wild-greens set-meal house at 1 Taegi-ro, Bongpyeong, a 5-10 minute drive from Phoenix Park. The base set, with mountain greens, turmeric pot rice, doenjang stew and grilled pollack and deodeok, is 25,000 won; with mackerel 31,000, with soy-marinated crab 35,000 (prices from July 2026). Crab party sets run 74,000 won for two and 114,000 for three. You scoop out the pot rice, pour water in for scorched-rice tea, and help yourself to barley rice and greens at a self-serve corner. We read 30 posts from 18 January to 19 October 2026: 18 describe an actual meal, four were set aside because they were about Seoraksan's rock of the same name or another restaurant, and eight were lists or write-ups without a visit.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Ten posts said they went back for more side dishes. Several made bibimbap from the self-serve barley rice, greens and gochujang; one went back twice for the seaweed stems. One post noted that most sides are free to refill but more meat costs 5,000 won.
  2. Waiting splits three to three. Three posts found a line before the 10:30 opening: one arrived at 10:10 and watched 20-30 people gather, one saw people waiting on a weekday morning, one did an opening rush and still found a crowd ahead. Three walked straight in: around 1:30 on a Saturday, around 1:40, and just after 6 on a Friday evening.
  3. Three posts said you take your shoes off at the door. It is not floor seating, though: one described it as tables with shoes off, and another counted plenty of four- and six-person tables.
  4. Six posts mention high chairs, and eight went with children, including a 23-month-old, a 30-month-old and children aged four and five. One got baby tableware; another said the kids were given plain white pot rice. One post warned that some greens are bitter and suggested the mackerel or crab set for children.
2 more
  1. Seven posts said the seasoning is not heavy, several of them about the crab specifically. One disagreed, finding the crab sweet and salty enough to need rice. Another found the grilled pollack and pork bulgogi a little sweet.
  2. Twelve of the eighteen visits were family meals, often with parents or in-laws; one party had seven people. One post saw a family of about twenty at what looked like a 70th-birthday meal and still found the room quiet. One visit was a couple.

Parking

6 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

Posts saying you can park6 of 16 posts

Six posts parked in the lot in front. One found plenty of space around 2 p.m. on a weekend, easy even for a new driver; one counted roughly 15 to 20 spaces.

Getting inside

Toilet inside1 of 16 posts

No post says what floor the dining room is on or whether there are stairs. That means we don't know, not that there are none.

Nobody wrote about a step at the entrance or getting in with a wheelchair or stroller. All we know is that shoes come off at the door.

Only one post mentions the toilet, saying it is indoors and clean. Nobody said whether it is split by gender or how big it is.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 24 posts we gathered, 8 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Prices depend on when the post was written. The January 2026 post listed 23,000, 29,000 and 33,000 won for the three sets; posts from July list 25,000, 31,000 and 35,000, a 2,000-won rise in between. Two posts called it expensive; two thought so at first but felt the spread justified it. Four people ordering two each of two sets paid around 120,000 won.
  • Speed splits two to two: two posts said the mackerel came out late, two said food arrived quickly.
  • Seven posts give the same hours: 10:30 to 20:00, break 15:10 to 16:30, last order 18:50, closed Wednesdays. Most of these are copied from the listing; what visitors actually experienced was the 6:50 p.m. last order and not being let in before 10:30. Only the January 2026 post differs, with the break starting at 15:30 and Wednesday closing 'except August'. We can't tell whether that was a change or a copying error.
  • Three posts give the phone number as 033-334-6788. No visit post confirms whether reservations are taken; the advice to call ahead appears only in a write-up with no sign of a visit.
  • No visit post explains how to get there by bus or train. Three say they drove, and the only directions given are a 5-10 minute drive from Phoenix Park.
  • Two of the eighteen visit posts were hosted meals, and both use the same phrasing, calling the owner a certified master of Korean cuisine and listing fritters, japchae, pickled wild garlic and wraps as refillable. Claims about home-grown produce, TV appearances and the master title come from the restaurant or hearsay; we report them as such and did not count them.
