Dongeunseong is a Chinese restaurant at 532-1 Daejong-ro, Jung-gu, Daejeon, within walking distance of the Sungsimdang main bakery. The menu has just three items: pot jjamppong, pot udon and sweet-and-sour pork. The jjamppong arrives with no noodles, as a pot of seafood and bean sprouts that simmers at the table, and you add noodles (₩2,000) partway through. Posts give ₩23,000 for a medium pot and ₩17,000 for a small tangsuyuk, so the usual order for two comes to ₩40,000. We read 30 posts dated September 6 to October 22, 2026; 26 of them describe an actual visit.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

What sets it apart

  1. Waiting is the first thing people write about here. All 24 posts that discussed it waited. Weekend lunch examples: one registered at 11:40, got number 41 and was seated at 2pm; another arrived at 11:00 with 30 parties ahead and also got in at 2pm; a third arrived at 10:30 and sat down at 1:20pm. On weekdays the restaurant opens only at 5pm, and the waitlist opens at 4:30. One post arrived at 4:15, got number 7 and was seated at 5:15; another got number 20 at 4:45 and was seated at 6:15. You have to register on the device outside the door. Three posts noted that remote sign-up doesn't work. One post quoted the owner's confirmation text, which says the food is not worth a long wait.
  2. You don't tend the pot alone. Four posts said the owner or staff came to the table to cut the octopus and tell them when to eat each thing — mussels now, octopus next — warning that the octopus toughens if it boils too long.
  3. Eight posts called the owner or staff kind. One party came in at the 9pm closing time and was told to take their time since they had waited so long; another was brought aprons and hair ties unasked. Other posts called the owner quirky or cheeky. One post said he refused noodles, alcohol and drinks on the first order, telling them to add more as they ate because the portions are big. When they asked for the hot level, he checked again whether they would be fine in the bathroom the next day.
  4. 23 posts ordered the tangsuyuk. Six said the batter was crisp, four said the pork had no gamey smell, and two said the meat was thick. It comes with a ketchup sauce laced with minced garlic and a dish of seasoned salt, and several posts urge you to take the first bite with salt.

  1. The jjamppong comes in three heat levels, which posts relay as roughly Shin Ramyun, Teumsae Ramyun and Buldak. Eight posts found it spicy, including one that ordered the mildest and still called it fiery. One post disagreed, saying level one wasn't hot at all. Another noted the broth turned salty by the end as it kept boiling.
  2. The room is small. Four posts said so outright. Three counted nine tables, one counted ten, and one counted about six four-tops, which is why missing the first seating means a long wait. Two posts said turnover was slow in the evening because many tables were drinking.

Parking

1 posts say you cannot park. None say you can.

Posts saying you cannot1 of 25 posts

Eight posts mention parking. One states plainly that there is no lot. One drove, used the Seonhwa-dong public lot nearby, and paid ₩500 the first time and ₩2,000 after the meal. The rest only repeat 'no parking' or 'use a public lot' in copied info blocks, which we didn't count.

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside

No post says which floor the restaurant is on or whether there are stairs; the '1st floor' in one copied address isn't a first-hand account.

No post says whether there's a step at the door or whether a wheelchair or stroller fits. That means we don't know, not that it's impossible. The one family that brought a baby found no high chair and a noisy room, and didn't recommend it with an infant.

No post says where the toilet is or whether it is separated by gender.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 29 posts we gathered, 4 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Takeaway is mixed: one post took home leftover tangsuyuk, while another says leftovers can be packed but takeaway orders are not accepted.
  • Only one post went by public transport: about a five-minute walk from Exit 8 of Jungangno subway station. Nobody mentioned buses.
  • Posts agree on the basic hours: weekdays (Tue–Fri) from 5pm, weekends from 11:30am, closed Mondays. Some details differ. Seven posts give a weekday close of 8:30pm and two say 9pm; eight put the weekend break at 3–5pm and three at 2:30–5pm. Most of these times are copied from listings. One post warns of fairly frequent unscheduled closures, and several say the waitlist closes early once it is full.
  • Four posts list the phone number 042-252-3866, but none mention reservations; everyone queued in person at the door. That alcohol isn't served at lunch, and that meals are for two or more, are things the shop told visitors, not something we verified.
  • No post called the prices high. One said it seemed pricey at first but turned out not to be at all, and two said the portions are big. One post describes a 2025 visit written up in October 2026, and says its prices and hours came from online listings.
