꼬집 a late-night charcoal skewer bar in Daejeon's Bongmyeong-dong drinking lane

Compiled from 27 blog posts read in fullSources →

Kkojip is a charcoal-skewer bar in the middle of Usan-geori, the eating lane in Bongmyeong-dong, Daejeon. Six in the evening until three in the morning, four on Fridays and Saturdays, closed Mondays. You order by writing on a notepad left at the table — and for each skewer you write which of the four seasonings you want: salt, sauce, hot sauce or barbecue. Four posts note that leaving it blank gets you the sauce. The charcoal sits in an open kitchen, so you can watch your own order go on the grill. The house plate is five skewers together for ₩21,000, but the menu also runs to kimchi fried rice, black-bean noodles, cold noodles and fish-cake soup, and several writers say you could make this your first stop of the night rather than your second. The room is an indoor pojangmacha done straight, with plastic curtains along the window to make an awning. The posts we read run from 4 August to 10 September 2026.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Nothing goes on the charcoal until you order it. Seven posts say so, and five of them watched their own from the table — one calls the seat facing the grill the best in the house. Two were told by the staff to start with the chicken before it cooled. It does not make the food slow: one writer remarks on how quickly it came, and nobody complains of waiting.
  2. A free plate lands before you have ordered anything — macaroni crisps, corn-and-mayonnaise salad, pickled radish, and a mustard dip the shop makes itself. Sixteen posts record it, more than record any single dish. Nine single out the corn salad, two of them saying few bars hand it over for nothing. Four write about the mustard dip, one of them asking the shop outright what is in it.
  3. Not one writer calls it expensive, and seven go out of their way to call it cheap. Two set it against somewhere else: one notes that at a yakitori bar the gizzard and heart skewers alone run past ₩5,000, where here they start in the threes; another does the arithmetic on a ₩29,500 set and decides it is a bargain. Pooling the posts that quote figures: ₩21,000 for the five-skewer plate, ₩29,500 for the big set, ₩18,900 for the divided fish-cake pot, ₩13,900 for the pork stew, ₩9,900 for the potato pancake, ₩8,900 for the fried rice, ₩3,500–6,000 for a single skewer. One writer adds up a whole table: ₩40,500 for two, the set with a draught each. Every figure is from August or September 2026, so there is nothing yet to compare them against.
  4. Ten posts are, in part, about the people working there, and the specifics repeat: told to eat the chicken before it cooled (two), offered a reheat on a cooling pot without being asked (two), steered to a cooler table at the back (one), walked through the menu (two), given a bowl of rice that is not on the menu (one), handed a prop to steady while photographing the table (one). Nobody reports being badly served. Four say the person at the charcoal is the owner.
4 more
  1. Six writers remark on the size of the skewers, and three of them measure it against somewhere else: twice what other bars serve; the size of the street-stall kind where a "premium" bar charges ₩7,000 for half that; bigger and better packed than expected. Two were full enough after the first order to cancel the rest of the night. Four note the rice cake and grilled spring onion threaded between the meat, which adds to it.
  2. Six writers were caught out by how hot the default sauce is. Two of them say they eat hot food happily and were still surprised; two advise anyone who does not to ask for salt or barbecue instead. All six nonetheless liked it — one distinguishes it from the flat burn of capsaicin, calling it a heat with sweetness under it. There is a hotter thing again on the board, advertised as the top one per cent, and nobody among the twenty-nine ordered it.
  3. The kitchen is open to the room. Seven posts say so; four could see the charcoal from where they sat. One argues the point — that being able to watch matters, hygiene included — and another says it made the wait pass. Four say the person turning the skewers is the owner.
  4. One post says skewers are ordered three at a time or not at all. Only one, so we cannot tell whether it still holds. What sixteen of the twenty-nine did instead was order the five-skewer plate — more than half of everyone who went. One writer notes that the five cannot be swapped around, and minds.

Parking

8 posts say you cannot park. None say you can.

Posts saying you cannot8 of 27 posts

There is no car park. Eight posts say so and none contradict: no lot of its own; parking not possible, use one nearby; park on the lane; park on the shoulder; and one that simply says parking is difficult. It is the middle of a drinking street and the bar only opens at night. None of the eight actually parked, though — not one says where they left a car or names a lot.

Getting inside

Toilet insideyes 0 · no 1 (of 27 posts read)

No post mentions a floor. The licence has it as unit 106 on the ground floor, and the writers describe walking in off the street past the sign and the sandwich board — but not one of them climbs or descends anything. Whether there is an upstairs, or a lift, nobody says. Five do note the menu board out front, which you can read before going in.

Not one post says whether a wheelchair or a pushchair can get in. Nobody writes about a step at the door, how wide the door is, or what the way to the toilet is like. There is plenty about seating — ten or twelve tables, round ones and square, an awning section behind plastic curtains at the window, and eight writers say the tables are set well apart. But room between tables is not the same as getting through the door, and on that we know nothing.

One post mentions the toilet. It says: out through the inner door and to the right — which puts it outside the room, not in it. Whether it is split by sex, shared with the building, or needs a key, even that writer does not say, and the other twenty-eight never raise it. One post carries a line reading "groups welcome, toilet", but that is the Naver listing's amenity list copied over, so we have not counted it.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know

  • All twenty-nine posts we read were written inside five weeks, between 4 August and 10 September 2026. There is nothing before that. The bar appears to have just opened — three writers say as much — which means we cannot tell you whether prices have moved, what the place is like outside of late summer, or what anyone thinks of it after a year. Two posts declare that the meal was arranged for them, two say they paid; the other twenty-five say nothing either way. Thirteen do quote prices, and no two tables ordered the same thing. One post we had collected turned out to be about a mill in a different Bongmyeong-dong, two provinces away, pulled in by a recipe line: a pinch of salt is *kkojip* in Korean.
  • Only one writer says how they actually got there — by train into Daejeon, a soak at the Yuseong hot-spring foot baths, then on foot. The "747m from exit 7 at Yuseong-oncheon" that turns up elsewhere is lifted from the Naver listing; the identical figure appears in three posts. One writer does put it in their own terms: under ten minutes' walk from that exit. Nobody writes about buses, and nobody writes about getting home — which matters at a bar that closes at three, or four at weekends.
  • Nobody reports queueing. Four do report how full it was: nearly every table taken at eight on a Tuesday; all but one table gone after seven; busy at half nine on a Sunday; still a fair crowd at one in the morning. None of the four waited. What a Friday or Saturday night looks like we cannot say — no post we have is from one. Nor does anyone mention booking.
  • Two challenges hang on the sandwich board outside and nobody took either. A litre of beer in eight seconds for a prize, and a chicken skewer billed as the top one per cent of hot. Five posts photograph the board. Not one of the twenty-nine tried either — one writer says flatly that they fancied their chances at neither. So what the prize is, and how hot the skewer is, we cannot tell you.
