Gontran Cherrier NC Daejeon Yuseong sits on the ground floor of the NC department store in Bongmyeong-dong, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon. You take a tray and tongs, work your way around the central counter, pay, and then either sit down beside it with a coffee or carry the bag out. It opens two and a half hours before the store around it — the department store opens at 10:30, the bakery at 8:00, which means that early you come in through its own street-side door rather than the main entrance. There is a Starbucks on the same floor; two writers say they chose this room over that one for the quiet. A self-serve corner holds a microwave, water, cutlery and bags, so you can warm what you bought and wrap what you don't finish. The posts we read run from October 2025 to September 2026.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. People use it as a room to sit in, not just a counter to buy from. More posts describe the seating than anything else, and no two describe the same seat: a window bar, a two-top, a sofa, a long table for groups. One group of seven pushed two tables together with seven chairs and spent the better part of an afternoon reading poetry there. One writer says it is an easy place to sit alone; another brought two small children. That same group, though, found the window seats and every table already taken — the writer thought the café was busier than the store around it.
  2. The americano went from ₩4,500 to ₩4,800. Two posts from March and April 2026 give ₩4,500; a May post gives ₩4,800. Nobody photographs the whole price list, so the bread prices arrive one purchase at a time, scattered from a ₩4,200 cream castella to an ₩8,900 chestnut-and-apple pastry. One post calls the place expensive; four call it fair, and one of those fed three people on bread and coffee and thought it beat a restaurant. The sandwich prices do not agree: posts from January and July 2026 give a ₩7,200–11,500 range, while a June post prices two paninis at ₩14,500. We cannot tell whether that is the same line of food.
  3. Write a receipt review and they hand you a bag of cinnamon rusks. Three posts mention the offer; the one person who actually collected calls the cinnamon addictive. It is given, not sold. That so many writers bother to mention it says something about how the reviews here accumulate — none of the twenty-two posts we counted declares a sponsorship, and four state they paid their own way. One writer, though, says in the body that the shop is run by an acquaintance of theirs.
  4. People come back. Several posts count their own visits — a second, a third, a regular who drops in most weekends — and one went back two days running for the rocket-and-tomato salt roll. Posts that only promise to return are counted separately. Sungsimdang shadows every conversation about bread in Daejeon, and the writers here reach for it constantly: they came because they could not face that queue, or because this sits just off the standard bakery circuit.

Parking

2 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

Posts saying you can park2 of 22 posts

A lot of posts talk about parking; two people actually parked. Five copy out the free-parking table — an hour for ₩10,000 spent, two for ₩30,000, up to five for ₩200,000 — but that is the department store's notice, not anyone's afternoon. Two write from experience: one says the staff asked about parking unprompted at the till, another simply that it is an easy place to drive to. The claims that the car park is underground only, and that charging an electric car does not earn you free parking, are copied, not confirmed.

Getting inside

Second flooryes 0 · no 14 (of 22 posts read)

The bakery is at street level — but the building runs from three floors down to ten floors up. Several writers say in their own words that it is on the ground floor of the department store, and none mentions a second room upstairs or downstairs. The floor matters because dozens of other businesses share this address: among the posts we sifted were a ninth-floor Chinese restaurant and a fourth-floor outdoor-clothing shop, both passing as posts about this bakery. Between 8:00 and 10:30 the store's main doors are still locked and you come in through the bakery's own street-side entrance — one writer walked the whole way around the building before finding it.

Nobody says whether you can get in with a wheelchair or a pushchair. Across the twenty-three posts we read, the words for wheelchair, pushchair, threshold, step, ramp and stairs never appear once. Several writers note that it is at street level with its own glass-fronted door, but not one of them looked at whether there is a lip at that door. One post mentions a high chair near the entrance, which answers a different question.

Nobody has looked at the toilet. One post carries a line reading "parking yes / toilet inside yes," but that is the platform's facilities list copied whole, and nothing in that post suggests the writer ever went. What a post says and what its writer saw are different things. Being inside a department store, you would presumably use the building's own — but not one of the twenty-two says which floor it is on, whether the shop has its own, or whether it is separated by sex.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 23 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Only two posts say how to get here without a car, and they name different exits. One puts it 267 m and a three-minute walk from Exit 8 of Yuseong Oncheon station, straight ahead from the exit; another says Exit 7 in its title. The rest either wave at buses and the subway or say nothing. We have not been able to check which exit is right.
  • Almost nobody writes about queueing. One went on a weekday afternoon and sat down without trouble; one says weekends are always busy and to come on a weekday morning; one found it comfortable at ten on a Saturday. Against that, a party of seven arriving on a January weekend found every table taken. Only one person notes when the bread runs out — arriving at 4:40 in the afternoon, they found gaps up and down the shelves.
  • They agree about the bread and disagree about the coffee. Almost nobody criticises the baking — one complaint, that a cream-filled salt roll was too hard. The coffee is another matter: three call it unremarkable or merely fine, and one writes it off outright while keeping the bread. Against them, the one person who ordered a shakerato says it is the thing to order here. One post sums the place up as a safe choice rather than a destination.
  • Two posts say anything about bringing children. One notes a high chair by the entrance; the other brought two small children who happily ate the plain salt rolls. Nobody mentions a changing table or anything to keep a child busy — the nursing room on the sixth floor comes from the department store's own directory, so we have not counted it.
