Awesome Poke & Salad's Yuseong branch is a poke-and-salad shop on the ground floor of the Highland 1 commercial block in Bongmyeong-dong, Daejeon — opposite a pork-belly restaurant on the walk from the Usan street towards the Homeplus, and 974m from exit 7 of Yuseong Oncheon station on Line 1. A poke here is assembled in three choices: the protein (beef flat iron, beef belly, smoked duck, raw salmon, chicken thigh, chicken breast, garlic shrimp, sesame-oil mushroom tofu), the base (brown rice, buckwheat noodles or more salad), and the sauce. They run ₩12,400–13,500. Alongside them: kimbap rolled with egg instead of rice at ₩7,000, a pasta salad, sandwiches, and a sugar-free tteokbokki made with brown-rice cakes. Calories are printed on the menu board — 420 to 480 for the pokes, 270 to 388 for the gimbap — because a lot of the people who come here are counting them. You order at a kiosk, and there is water and a pot of hot fish-cake broth to help yourself to. Closed every Friday. Two writers note it is not a chain: this one shop is the whole of it.

What sets it apart
- The thing said most often about this shop is not how the food tastes but how much of it there is — fourteen writers say the portions are large. "First time a poke bowl has genuinely filled me up." "We both eat small and we were stuffed." "I barely finished." "I didn't even finish it and I was still full." One writer who normally avoids poke because it leaves her hungry could not get through hers. So the advice that recurs here is to order less — half a roll of gimbap next time; and, from a woman who paid the extra ₩1,000 for more vegetables and the ₩4,000 for soup, a flat instruction not to do either, because the standard bowl is already generous.
- You order at a kiosk — nine writers say so. It stands towards the back and takes payment as well. Four note that the recommended sauce for each topping is posted on or beside the kiosk, which is how a first-timer picks one; one adds that the order of steps is written out and easy to follow. Nobody records how that kiosk serves a customer who cannot read Korean — worth knowing, in a shop where a single bowl means three separate choices.
- There is somewhere to sit alone — nine writers describe a counter alongside the tables. Bar seats, standing one-person spots, two-tops and four-tops; one writer says that although the room is not large it is exactly the right size for eating by yourself. One notes the counter runs along the window. Two writers actually came alone: one walked over after the gym for a roll of gimbap, and one split off from her husband — he wanted hangover soup, she wanted poke. Those who counted put it at seven tables, or at four counter seats plus two two-tops and three four-tops.
- There is water and hot broth to help yourself to. Five writers mention the counter and all of them favourably: a water cooler, a pot of hot fish-cake broth, and a bottle of sriracha, all free. One says the gimbap is better with the broth; another's entire comment is that the water tastes good. Aprons are on request — ask at the counter and you are handed a disposable black one. Two writers saw the origin-of-ingredients notice posted up and said so in their own words.

- A lot of this writing comes from regulars — ten say they have been back. Not mildly, either: one calls it the poke place in front of her flat; one says it ended her wandering between poke shops in Daejeon; one orders the same bowl every single visit; one has it as her current favourite; one eats in and takes away often. One writer admits she hesitated to post at all because she would rather it did not get busier, and published "for the public good." Four came for the first time, and three of those four say they will return. Five writers measure it against other poke shops by name and put this one ahead.

Parking
10 posts say you can park; 1 say you cannot. We leave the disagreement standing rather than picking a side.

The posts disagree about parking — and the dissenting one is not the oldest. Ten writers say there is parking. The fullest account — both Highland buildings, free, twenty-five spaces above ground and twenty-five below in each, fifty in all — appears in four posts, though three of those four are by the same blogger. Others looked for themselves: the lot behind the shop was full, so one writer went underground and found exactly one space left (September 2026); another calls the rear lot cramped, and warns it may be full (October 2025); another found room by the entrance and one space directly in front of the shop (December 2025); another a free lot right beside it (August 2026). But one writer, in May 2026, states flatly: no car park, park on the street. She is a regular who lives in front of the shop. And the September 2026 writer adds that street parking is common in this neighbourhood and easier on the nerves. We do not know which is right — it may have changed, the building's spaces may not be for shop customers, or a lot that is always full may amount to the same thing as no lot. If you drive, plan on the street.

Getting inside
| Toilet inside | yes 0 · no 3 (of 22 posts read) |

It is on the ground floor — though nobody wrote that down as something they saw. The registered address and the check-in line attached to every post both read "107 Munhwawon-ro, first floor," and one writer puts it at "the first floor of Highland 1." But those are addresses, not observations — across twenty-five posts, not one person mentions a step at the door or stairs into the shop. The only stairs anyone describes lead to the toilet: "up the stairs and the toilet is right there" (September 2026). Read together, the shop is at street level and the toilet is a floor above it. A ground-floor unit in a commercial block is likely to open straight off the pavement, but that is our inference, and we do not print inferences.
We do not know whether you can get in with a wheelchair. The shop lists a step-free entrance and an accessible parking bay on Naver, and four posts carry that claim. But all four are one blogger pasting in the same facilities list — takeaway, groups, delivery, booking, wi-fi, separate toilets, step-free entrance, accessible bay — identical in every one. Across all twenty-five posts, not a single person looked at the threshold or the width of the door. The word wheelchair appears nowhere outside those four pasted lines. What we know is that the shop is on the ground floor, and that the shop itself makes the claim. Against that, three writers did see that the toilet is out the door and up a flight of stairs — getting into the room and getting to the toilet are two different questions. This is an absence of evidence, not a no.
The toilet is not inside the shop — it belongs to the building. Three writers, in three different months, looked and said the same thing: out through the door and it is right there (April 2025); out of the shop and immediately outside (February 2026); and, most usefully, up the stairs, with a keypad on the door (September 2026). Put together: you leave the shop, go up a flight, and need a code — ask at the counter, since codes change. Whether men's and women's are separate, nobody looked. The shop lists them as separate on Naver, but the four posts carrying that line are all by one writer pasting in the same facilities list, and she does not claim to have seen the toilet either.
No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 25 posts we gathered, 3 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- We counted twenty-two of twenty-five posts — but twenty-two posts are not twenty-two people. They are seventeen. One blogger wrote six of them, between July 2025 and January 2026, and all six carry the same opening-hours table and the same facilities list, word for word. We have not counted that block once. The three we dropped were not written by anyone who came here: one is a round-up of seventeen delivery restaurants, in which our section is entirely about ordering through an app; one is a diet diary about food eaten at home; and one consists of the line "I ordered from a place called Awesome Poke," which leaves us unable to tell a visit from a delivery. Not one post discloses being paid — and eleven say outright that they paid their own way, two with a receipt attached. Six, however, were given something: an iced americano or a soft drink for a receipt review, an americano for booking, an americano free over ₩12,000. They paid for their food, but it is worth knowing a drink came free with the writing.
- Nobody reports waiting for a table. One reports waiting for a takeaway. Not one of the twenty-two queued to sit down; one found the room completely empty on a weekday morning. But this shop does far more delivery and takeaway than sit-down trade, and that is where the waiting happens. A regular writes that on a weekend lunchtime the room was full and delivery orders kept arriving — and that this is not unusual, so if you want a takeaway, order before you walk over or you will wait a long time. Six posts remark on the volume of delivery: four people cooking and nothing else; orders coming in for the whole half hour of one writer's meal. Order ahead if you are collecting. Whether the tables fill at weekend lunch we cannot say — one person's word is all we have.
- Half call it roomy and half call it small — and both may be right. For roomy: "really spacious and clean" (March 2026), "plenty of seats, wide and tidy" (April 2025). For small: "mostly a takeaway and delivery kitchen, so the room is on the small side" (May 2026), "not many seats, but exactly the right size to eat alone" (July 2025). Between them: "not big, not cramped, just about right" (April 2026) and "neither, about seven tables" (August 2025). Both of the people who counted tables arrived at seven, so the shop is a seven-table room, and whether that reads as roomy depends on what you are comparing it with. Three call it clean and nobody disagrees — a white room, clean tables, clean floor. Three mention how well the daylight comes in.
- It is not close to the station — nearly a kilometre. Six writers describe how to get there, and every one who gives a distance gives the same figure: 974m from exit 7 of Yuseong Oncheon station. That number comes from Naver, and not one person says how long the walk takes. Those who describe the route in their own words use the neighbourhood rather than the station: from the Usan street towards the Homeplus, opposite a pork-belly place; on the main stretch of the Usan street; a little off the food alley but central enough in Bongmyeong-dong to be easy to find. For anyone already in the neighbourhood it is easy; for anyone arriving by train it is a walk of over ten minutes. Whether that walk is uphill, or what it is like after dark, nobody says.
- It closes on Fridays — eleven posts say so and none disagree. The opening hours line up almost as cleanly: nine give weekdays as 09:00–21:00, seven give weekends as 10:00–20:30, and eight give a break from 15:00 to 16:30. Three disagreements survive at the edges. First, whether weekday last orders are 20:30 or 20:40 — the four posts saying 20:40 are all by one blogger pasting the same table four times, while the three saying 20:30 are three different people. Second, one September 2026 post puts the weekend close at 21:00 rather than 20:30; it is the most recent account, so it may be a change, but it is one account. Third, one August 2025 post gives a single line, Saturday through Thursday, 09:00–21:00, making the weekend the same as the weekdays. Each of those is a single source, so neither is printed on this page. If you are coming late at a weekend, ring first.
- Half the writing about this place comes from people who mostly have it delivered — and that shapes what we can count. Six posts remark that delivery orders never stop; one describes four people in the kitchen doing nothing but cook, "a factory." All three posts we dropped are delivery or takeaway, and several we kept are from people who do both: "I usually get it delivered, but on a day when I wanted something fresh"; "lately I eat in and take away a lot." So there is little writing about the room itself. Whether the chairs are comfortable, what a Saturday evening is like, whether it suits children — we do not know. Not one post is from someone who came with a child, and high chairs are never mentioned. Only six of twenty-five posts record a price, so we do not have the menu board.
