Bulhok Makchang

불혹막창 Bulhok is the classical word for turning forty, the age of no longer being swayed; the owner named the place when he entered his forties, and makchang is grilled pork large intestine.

A coal-briquette makchang house at Dongseong Elementary crossroads, 394 Myeongdeok-ro, Suseong-gu, Daegu, soft-opened in late July 2026. Straw-aged pork intestine, flame-grilled spicy chicken feet, pork-neck chunks and butterflied marinated ribs are all 12,000 won a portion; fried rice and risotto 5,000, noodles and stew 6,000. Meat arrives par-grilled from the kitchen and is finished on the briquette at your table, and a pressure-cooker of braised kimchi with tofu plus soy-marinated crab come free. We read 30 posts from 25 July to 26 October 2026, all of them first-hand visits. Through August it closed at midnight and on Mondays; posts from late September say it is open daily until 1 a.m.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

What sets it apart

  1. Every table gets a free pressure-cooker of braised kimchi; 28 posts mention it. The little cooker goes on the briquette, and when the timer rings (four minutes, one post says) a staff member cuts the kimchi and plates it beside tofu. Nine posts said the kimchi or sides were refilled for them, and one was told everything except the soy-marinated crab can be refilled. Nearly every post also notes the crab itself as a free side.
  2. You don't have to grill. Twenty posts said the meat comes pre-grilled; how far varies by account, from about 80 percent to '100 percent done'. The briquette keeps it warm or crisps the edges. One soft-opening visitor said the owner grilled at the table himself. Three posts noticed a seat marked for the person who does the grilling.
  3. Expect to wait in the evening. Eight posts saw a queue: one said a line formed after 6:30 even on a weekday, another found it full with a wait at 7 p.m. on a weekday, a third left with two or three parties waiting, and one writer gave up a week earlier because the line was too long. Nobody gave a wait time in minutes. Three posts describe a Tabling waitlist kiosk and chairs out front; several got straight in by arriving at the 5 p.m. opening, and three booked ahead.
  4. True to the name ('turning forty'), tables with someone in their forties get 10 percent off; 17 posts mention it, four of them saying it applies only to cash payment. One post said a single forty-something in the party is enough. Nine posts mention a free honey-hotteok ice cream for writing a receipt review.

Parking

5 posts say you cannot park. None say you can.

Posts saying you cannot5 of 29 posts

Parking accounts conflict. Copied info blocks keep saying there is a lot behind the building, but those are not first-hand. Five writers said there is no lot and parked in an alley or public lot; five others left it unresolved, one circling and failing to find the rear lot, another told its entrance was dangerously narrow. Several posts say the Daegu Office of Education lot opens free after 7 p.m.

Getting inside

Toilet inside1 of 29 posts
Separate restrooms1 of 29 posts

No post describes the floor or any steps at the entrance; '1st floor' appears only in the address, not in anyone's account.

Nobody said whether there is a step at the door or whether a wheelchair or stroller fits. Two posts came with a toddler and used a high chair, but neither mentions bringing a stroller in. This is unknown, not a no.

Only one post said first-hand that the restroom is inside and split by gender; other mentions come from copied info blocks. Four posts noted mouthwash and floss in the restroom.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know

  • Opening hours changed. Five posts up to 12 August 2026 gave 5 p.m. to midnight, four closed Mondays and one said Wednesdays. Of 20 posts from 26 September on, 19 give 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. daily and one says 2 a.m. Most of these are copied info blocks, so check before you go.
  • Main portions stayed at 12,000 won from July to October. Two posts gave a bill: one totalled 56,000 won for three portions of ribs, one of intestine, noodles and a cola; another, for two people, listed 24,000 for chicken feet, 24,000 for intestine, 5,000 for the soju game and 10,000 for two bottles of soju. The menu shifted: the July mixed-pork platter and jjapagetti gratin disappear by late September, replaced by pork-neck chunks and spicy chicken feet.
  • Phone numbers vary: 13 posts give 0507-1451-3583, two early posts 010-5526-3583, and one 010-9356-1010. Writers who booked did so through Naver Booking.
  • Three posts disclose sponsorship and one says the writer paid; the other 26 say nothing about money, yet many follow one of two identical orders, and two share a sentence word for word. Read the praise with a campaign in mind.
