더 파도 A big, timber-framed seafood grill by Dongdaegu station where the shellfish and prawns come out of the tank and the staff grill them for you

Compiled from 24 blog posts read in fullSources →

The Pado is a seafood grill on the main road between Dongdaegu station and Sincheon station, in Sincheon-dong, Daegu. Clams, prawns, octopus and snow crab come out of the tank to the grill, and almost everyone orders the same thing — the prawn-and-shellfish set, seventeen of the twenty-four posts, eleven of them the smallest ₩59,000 tray. The prawns come salt-grilled, butter-grilled or raw, and the heads you leave are taken away and returned butter-fried. Open 5pm to 1am, closed Sundays. Ten writers reach for the same two words about the big timber-and-canvas room: like a street tent, and old-school — though one calls it frankly shabby and warns that not everyone will take to it. There is a car park beside and behind the building. Of the twenty-six posts, one turned out to be about a different restaurant nearby, and one had no record of eating anything, so both are out of the count. The posts we read run from November 2024 to September 2026.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. A fair amount of what reaches the table is not on the bill. Twenty-one writers were given live baby octopus, dressed in sesame oil, for nothing — "a dish you normally pay for, arriving as a side", "too good to be a freebie". The terms are on a banner outside: a mini octopus with any main over ₩45,000, and a bottle of soju with any prawn, grill, steamer or pot. Six writers got the soju. It is not always offered, though: one, seeing nothing arrive, mentioned it quietly and was brought a plate — and advises everyone to ask, since the staff are busy. The free sides are seasoned rice, corn salad, pink sausage, quail eggs, puffed-corn crackers and a cold bean-sprout or seaweed soup, and a separate bowl of chilli broth to spoon over the shellfish so it does not dry out — four writers call that a thoughtful touch, though one who boiled it down found it fierce. One writer who cannot eat live octopus was given steamed octopus instead.
  2. You do not have to do the grilling. Sixteen writers describe staff laying the shellfish on the grill, opening them, cutting them into pieces and saying when to eat — two quote being told the exact moment. The cheese goes on for you too. The prawns arrive alive on the grill, and when they redden you call someone over to take the heads, which come back butter-fried at no charge — eight writers single that out as the best part. Two warn you to peel back the horn above the eye to save your palate. It is not guaranteed: one writer was told the staff grill for you when things are quiet but cannot when it is busy, and another waved them off and did it herself.
  3. Not one writer calls it expensive; twelve call it good value. The ₩59,000 set brings a tray of prawns, a tray of scallop, pen shell, hard clam and abalone, a plate of live octopus and a bottle of soju — and a clam ramyun or a bowl of sea squirt if you write a review. One writer wonders aloud whether the owner makes anything; another asks whether eating this much for this money should even be allowed. Fifteen say the portions are large, and the ones who ordered the smallest tray say it loudest: "small is not small", "we took the smallest and it was generous for two". Five mention a ₩3,000 voucher for next time, handed over at the till and stackable.
  4. A big, worn-in room. Ten writers call it roomy and three say the tables are far enough apart to forget the neighbours. Timber posts and a canvas ceiling make it feel, in their words, like eating seafood under an awning, or like the sea might be audible outside; five suggest it for a work dinner, and two parties of eight and five did exactly that. It shows its age: one remembers a gravel floor, since tidied up, while another finds the inside as shabby as the outside and warns that the full old-school treatment is not for everyone. Three write about the chairs — school-hall chairs, one says, hard on the backside but oddly good for the back. One summer visitor was grateful the room was cold enough that the grill did not make it worse.

  1. In autumn, expect to wait. Prawn season fills the place: one writer queued at seven on a Saturday evening, one arrived before seven on a Wednesday to find it booked out by parties and waited close to an hour, and one found one or two tables left at ten on a Saturday night. Another advises coming earlier than seven at weekends; another booked the same day, reckoning that most people do. Three posts mention that the shop takes reservations. One writer, by contrast, walked into a full room on a Friday night and was seated at once. When it is busy the food is slow — two writers say so plainly.

Posts saying you can park18 of 24 posts

A place you drive to. Eighteen writers record the private car park and six call it large — an entrance beside or behind the building, "the whole way back is parking", "tuck in along the wall and plenty fit". One notes that parking near Dongdaegu station is usually a worry and here you park and walk straight in. It is also a drinking house: two writers drove and went without the soju, and two suggest the subway or a taxi if you plan to drink. Thirteen posts cover public transport: three give 371 metres from exit 7 at Sincheon station, four put it at five to ten minutes' walk, and Dongdaegu station is five to eleven minutes away — with one writer noting that the walk from Sincheon is more uphill than you would like.

Getting inside

Toilet insideyes 0 · no 4 (of 24 posts read)
Separate restroomsyes 0 · no 2 (of 24 posts read)

Nobody describes the way in. The address says ground floor and several writers place it on the main road, but not one of the twenty-four says whether there is a step or a stair at the door. Since the toilet is outside at the back, we also do not know what you have to cross to reach it from your table.

No one says whether a wheelchair or a pushchair could get in. Ten writers describe a wide room with space between the tables, so there is likely room to move once inside — but the threshold, and the route to that outdoor toilet, nobody has looked at. We can claim neither way.

The toilet is not inside — four writers put it outdoors, beside the car park behind the building. Whether it is split by sex, the posts disagree. The two who describe seeing it say it is shared (one adds, regretfully, that it is at least kept clean), and a third says the men's and women's are separated but in the same space. Three other posts, which copy the shop's listing wholesale, say the toilets are separate. We did not count the copied line — none of those three says anything about having used it.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 25 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • These prices are not per person. Nearly everything here is priced as a shared tray: six writers split the ₩59,000 small one between two, one party of three took the ₩79,000, one pair the ₩99,000. The party of eight ordered four crabs plus a set, raw and steamed oysters, live octopus and steamed octopus, and gives no figure at all. What one person spends here, we cannot count — only a handful of posts record the size of the party alongside the order.
  • Three different telephone numbers. Eleven posts from September 2025 onward give 053-753-6434; four from between November 2024 and March 2025 give 0507-1412-6434, a relay number that changes. And the number in our own licence record, 053-743-0385, is neither. Which one rings the shop today needs a human to check — this is a place that takes bookings, so a wrong number costs someone a wasted trip.
  • Not one writer discloses being given anything. Six say explicitly that they paid; one says her prawn party tasted better for being free, because her husband picked up the bill. Two of the twenty-six are out of the count: one is a review of a different restaurant in the same district, and one is an estate agent's blog post about seasonal food in October. The second says she visited but names no dish, no price and no number of diners — the "recommended menu" is the shop's own set and seasonal list, copied. We decided not to be swayed by length or effort: with no record of eating, it does not go in the denominator.
