Donghung
동흥 Two characters, east and rising — a plain old trade name, written in Chinese on the sign.
Compiled from 25 blog posts read in fullSources →
Donghung serves Pyeongyang-style cold noodles and beef soup out of a converted two-storey house in the lane opposite Dongdaegu station and the department store. Downstairs is the kitchen and a row of four single seats along a counter; a staircase leads up to several small room-like spaces. The shop's own claims — buckwheat noodles pressed each day, beef stock started before dawn — are repeated in post after post. Three cold noodle dishes, two soups and northern-style dumplings make up the spine of it, and every order brings a single slice of dressed pork, free, before anything else. Half past eleven until around nine, closed Tuesdays. It opened in June 2026, and everything we read was written between 4 June and 19 September of that year.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

What sets it apart
- Three things arrive without a price. Every order brings one slice of dressed boiled pork first; eleven writers mention it and two point out the trick — the little plate it comes on is your side plate, so none is brought separately. At the self-serve counter there is hot broth to drink while you wait, and if your noodle broth runs low they top it up from a jug. On the way out you are handed a bottle of yoghurt drink, and on some days a salted caramel too: eighteen posts record it.
- The shop has built seats for people eating alone: four of them along the counter facing the wall, and three of our writers used them. One was brought a stand for her phone so she could watch something while she ate. Another explains why the soju sold by the glass matters — a green bottle on the table draws looks, a beer-glass poured like water does not. The beer comes in a 300ml bottle for the same reason. Two writers picked the place precisely because it is three to five minutes' walk from the station and they had a train to catch.
- Leave a receipt review and you choose either the cold pork dish or a drink. Ten posts mention it and nearly all took the pork — two were surprised, since elsewhere this buys you a soft drink. It is ₩12,000 on the card, though two note the free version is a small one. One writer got caught out by the mechanics: she assumed she would show the review at the till, waited, and only got her plate as she was finishing. You post it first, then call someone over. It is also something to read against the posts. Ten of the twenty-seven behind this page were written under that prompt.
- This is a place you walk to. Six posts give the distance from Dongdaegu station and they agree with each other: 347 metres from exit 2, three to five minutes on foot, three minutes across the lights from the department store. Three of the writers who report no parking go further and tell you to leave the car at home. Two of our writers arrived by train and stopped in between services.

Parking
3 posts say you can park; 12 say you cannot. We leave the disagreement standing rather than picking a side.

Writers disagree sharply. Twelve say there is no parking, three say there is. The twelve are blunt about it: of course there is no car park, one writes, you find a space if you are lucky. Others simply say parking is impossible, or that you must use a paid car park nearby. Three of them recommend coming by public transport instead. The three who say there is parking all mean the same thing — the lot belonging to the grill restaurant next door. One adds that it is only available during meal service, and two say that when it is full you use a paid car park a street away. Taken together: the shop appears to have no car park of its own and borrows its neighbour's. People who know that write yes and people who do not write no — but the posts do not settle it. If you drive, plan on paying to park.

Getting inside

It uses two floors of a converted house, and which one you sit on is a different experience. The ground floor is the kitchen and four single seats in a row; upstairs divides into four or so small rooms. Three writers were sent up because the ground floor was full, and one only discovered the upper floor on the way to the toilet — the sign is on the ground floor, so people walk in without knowing. Three who saw only downstairs call the place small; two who went up call it roomy. One writer, there on a Saturday evening, thought the upstairs was not in use that night.
Nobody writes about getting in with a wheelchair or a pushchair — and here the question matters more than usual. This is a converted house whose ground floor is kitchen plus four single seats, so a party of two or more goes up the stairs. Three writers were sent up because there was no room below. How many steps, whether there is a rail, how wide it is, whether there is a lip at the door: not one post says. One writer did see a child using a high chair.
Writers place the toilet differently. Two say it is on the upper floor and four simply say it is inside — but one September 2026 writer says it is in the outer space you pass through before entering the upstairs room. In a converted house a landing can read as inside to one person and outside to another, and the posts do not settle it. Whether that matters in rain or in winter, nobody says. On what is in there they agree. Two writers went in and report separate men's and women's rooms, both noting the mouthwash and dental floss; one found a bidet seat; two mention single-use mouthwash sticks. One remarks that she had not expected a cold-noodle shop's toilet to be this well kept.
No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know
- This place is four months old. All twenty-seven posts were written between June and September 2026, so the year has not turned once. Nobody has yet eaten the beef soup in winter — the posts that mention it only guess that winter will suit it. And the prices have not moved because not enough time has passed, not because this is a shop that holds its prices. Some things still seem to be settling. A post from 25 June says there is no regular closing day; the fourteen posts from July onwards all say Tuesday. Two writers ate a rib soup in September that does not appear on the menu another writer copied out in August.
- Only one writer records actually waiting, but four found no seat. The one who waited went into the bookshop across the lane to pass the time. The others: the ground floor was full so they went up; half past six on a weekday and the place was packed; queues every Friday evening and Sunday lunch. A notice explains that when it is busy you write your name on a list, and two writers note you can book online. One mentions a bench set aside for waiting. Something else closes before the clock does. One June 2026 writer turned up late one evening to find the kitchen had run out and shut for the night; another went for the set meal and found it sold out for the day.
- No post declares a sponsorship, and seven say plainly that they paid. Two things still deserve discounting. First, ten posts were written under the shop's receipt-review offer, which pays in a plate of cold pork or a drink. Second, one post from 4 June 2026 carries no price and no incident, only the shop's own copy — good beef simmered from before dawn, sesame and perilla oil pressed to order. It went up in the shop's first week. We kept it in the count but drew no conclusions from it about the room, the parking or anything else. Four other posts repeat the same phrases, but those four also carry prices or something that happened, so they stand.
