Chan-aen-chan Makchang

찬앤찬막창 Makchang is the last section of pork intestine, grilled at the table — Daegu's signature dish; none of the posts explain the coined name 'Chan-and-Chan'.

Compiled from 26 blog posts read in fullSources →

A makchang (grilled pork intestine) house on Chimsannam-ro 8 near Wondae five-way junction in Buk-gu, Daegu. A 200 g portion is 13,000 won; it arrives par-grilled and whole, and you cut it into 1–1.5 cm rounds and finish it on your table grill. Most posts say the first order is at least three portions, and greens, leeks and rice cakes come from a self-bar. There are no reservations: at 4 pm a board goes up and you write your name against the entry slot you want. One post had been coming since the old covered-stream-road location and says the lines got long after the move. We read 30 posts from 8 Aug to 27 Oct 2026; two were about other restaurants, and a list entry and a takeout-at-home post are not counted as visits, leaving 26 visits.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. You wait twice — once to get on the board, again at your slot. Of 26 visits, 24 describe waiting; the one that didn't arrived at 5:02 pm on a Thursday, found room in the 5 pm slot and sat at 5:05. The board goes up at 4 pm, and people arrived to queue for it at 2:45 (public holiday), 2:50 (Saturday), 3:10 (Friday), 3:15 (weekday) and 3:30 (Friday, Saturday); the Saturday 3:30 arrival got the last 5 pm place. One Saturday party signed at 5:45 pm and got in at 9:30, calling it a four-hour wait. Second waits at the slot were 5, 5, 10 and 20 minutes; those who came around 9:30 pm waited 10 and 20 minutes.
  2. There is somewhere to wait. Twelve posts describe sitting inside at the tables in arrival order before 4 pm, or under a tent out front; three mention the air-conditioning being on. The second wait at your slot is outdoors, though, and one August post says it was brutally hot.
  3. Thirteen posts say the makchang comes par-grilled and whole; one says it came raw and needed a long time on the grill. Cutting and grilling are up to you, and several posts mention a table card telling you to cut 1–1.5 cm rounds; you can ask the kitchen to butterfly it flat instead.
  4. Nineteen posts went back to the self-bar for greens, leeks, rice cakes and sauces; one was pleased to find danggui leaves, another counts several salts including wasabi and pink salt. On the chilli and scallion for the dipping paste, one post had to ring for them and another got plenty without asking.
4 more
  1. Eleven posts found no off-smell (or almost none); one noticed a slight porky smell.
  2. Ten posts mention a minimum first order: nine say three portions (extras in twos), while one visit on 13 Aug 2026 says two. Several couples note they had to order three.
  3. There is parking out front, but little of it. Twelve posts describe parking there; the counts given are 4 spaces (three posts), 4–5, about 5, 5, 3–5 and 6–7. Alternatives mentioned are the Twosome Place lot next door, a paid lot to the right, and the side streets once the machine shops close after 6 pm.
  4. Seven posts went with friends, four with a partner or spouse, three with family. One party of five sat at a four-top with an extra chair.

Getting inside

Toilet insideyes 0 · no 1 (of 26 posts read)
Separate restroomsyes 0 · no 1 (of 26 posts read)

No post describes which floor it is on; the '1F' in the address isn't something anyone reported.

Nobody mentions a step at the entrance or getting in with a wheelchair or stroller — we don't know, which is not the same as there being a problem.

Only one post mentions the toilet: it is outside the restaurant and unisex, with a reminder to lock the door. No other post covers it.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 28 posts we gathered, 2 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • The restaurant moved here from an earlier spot on a covered-stream road; one regular says waits topped two hours after the move, but no post says when it happened. The waiting system also changed, from a 2–4 pm board to today's 4 pm slot board, and an August 2026 post notes the fish-cake soup has dropped off the side dishes since two years ago.
  • Prices: makchang, pork belly, pork rib and beef rib finger are all 13,000 won a portion (200 g, 150 g, 200 g, 100 g), doenjang stew 3,000/4,000 won, rice 1,000 won. One August 2026 post says it's 1,000 won more than two years earlier. Meal totals given are 52,000 won for four portions between two, and 65,000 won for five portions. Three posts called the prices fair; none called them high.
  • Five posts call the room spacious, and two count 24 four-person tables. On table spacing, two say roomy and one says cramped. Two describe it as loud and bustling.
  • Only one post describes arriving by public transport (by bus). The '276 m from Wondae Station exit 1' and 'five-minute walk' lines are copied into many posts' info boxes, so we don't rely on them. One post notes that without a car, killing time between the 4 pm board and your slot is hard.
  • Opening hours: 18 posts give 17:00–24:00 and 17 say closed Sundays, but all of it is copied into info boxes. One wrote Mon–Fri, which we take as a slip since several posts visited on Saturdays. Two posts say you can't be seated after 11 pm.
  • Many posts list the phone number 053-201-3777, but seven say no reservations are taken. One party, already on the board, phoned at 10 pm and was told four groups were ahead; another suggests calling before you set out to check the queue.
