Bongja Makchang Daegu Jongno-jeom

봉자막창 대구종로점 Bongja reads as an old-fashioned Korean woman's given name (the posts give no story behind it); makchang is grilled pork intestine, Daegu's signature dish, and jongno-jeom means the Jongno branch.

A makchang and pork grill on a Jongno side street in central Daegu, between Jungangno station and the Mangyeonggwan cinema. The set most people order, Bongja Hanpan, puts two full plates of your choice (raw or spicy makchang, fresh or frozen pork belly, neck, beef brisket) on one griddle for 43,000 won; a full-plus-half set is 36,000 won. Steamed egg, packet ramyeon and patbingsu are free and unlimited, and it opens in the evening and closes at 2 a.m. One poster had eaten at a Bongja Makchang in Ilsan too, so this is a branch of a chain. We read 30 posts from 18 September to 27 October 2026; 13 of them record an actual meal.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

What sets it apart

  1. Expect to wait in the evening. Seven posts waited: 20 minutes behind two groups around 8 p.m., 20 minutes behind three groups, four groups ahead at 9 p.m. One poster joined the remote queue at 8:50 on a Friday as number three, postponed twice and got in around 9:50; both remote (Tabling) and on-site kiosk queuing work. One poster arrived at the 5 p.m. opening as the first customer and watched the line build from 5:30; another went early and walked straight in.
  2. Eight posts describe the waiting area out front: on a rainy night one found plenty of chairs and heaters, another passed the time reading the notebook earlier customers had written in.
  3. Twelve posts say sides and steamed egg are refilled. The self-bar inside holds lettuce, scallion salad, pickled radish, curry powder and packet noodles (seven kinds, by two counts), which you boil on the table burner. One poster refilled the egg twice; a regular says the meat alone fills you up and they have never needed a refill. Two posts noticed floss and hair ties at the bar.
  4. Eight posts found the portions large. One notes the Hanpan is 500g of makchang (before par-grilling) plus 300g of belly, usually shared by three or four, and says two people should take the full-plus-half set next time.

  1. Six posts say the makchang had no off smell, and none said otherwise. Most cooked it crisp and dipped it in makjang loaded with green chili and scallion.
  2. Five posts call the staff friendly; four mention being sprayed with deodoriser on the way out, three of them with a sweet as well. One says staff kept coming outside to check on the queue.
  3. Three posts ordered from a tablet or kiosk at the table; one adds that you pay at the counter afterwards.
  4. One post notes the stools open up to hold coats and bags, away from the smoke.

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside

In a basementyes 0 · no 1 (of 13 posts read)

No visit post says whether there is a step at the door or whether anyone came in with a wheelchair or pram. One post pasted the listing's line claiming wheelchair access to the entrance and seats; we don't count that. One poster did note it is on the ground floor of a three-storey building.

None of the visit posts mention the toilet, inside or out, shared or separate. Separate toilets appear only in one post copying the listing. That is a gap, not a no.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 29 posts we gathered, 16 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

2026-10-277 posts in one day
2026-10-269 posts in one day

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Whether staff do the grilling is split: one post says they cooked it for them, four say staff only lay the meat on the griddle at the start, and the rest grilled it themselves.
  • Spicy makchang is cooked in the kitchen and one post says it takes 20 to 30 minutes; another found it cannot be ordered as a half plate.
  • 'Four minutes from Jungangno station exit 1' is repeated across many posts, but it is copied from the listing; no visit post says they came by subway or bus.
  • Two versions of the opening hours circulate: seven posts give Monday–Thursday 5 p.m.–2 a.m. and Friday–Sunday 4 p.m.–2 a.m. (last order 12:30), while three posts from 13–15 October 2026 have Monday closing at 11 p.m. and Sunday at 1 a.m. Both appear on the same dates, so we can't tell which is current; all are copied from the listing. No post names a closing day.
  • Prices run by the set: for two, 36,000 won for full-plus-half or 43,000 for the Hanpan, plus draft beer at 2,900 won (300ml), Cham soju at 5,000, and fried rice or doenjang stew at 2,000 each. One post alone gives different figures, 22,000 won for a belly plate and 12,000 for half a plate of makchang. Seven of the thirteen visit posts call it good value; none call it expensive.
  • Five posts give the phone number as 0507-1462-6337; one gives 010-8422-6336. One post explains that a Naver booking only holds a place in the queue, with guaranteed entry at a few set times.
  • Fourteen posts published on 26–27 October 2026 follow one template, same phrases in the same order (meeting a friend, the Hanpan, raw and spicy makchang, 'doenjang ramyeon', egg and bingsu, the TV, exit 1) with no prices, times or party sizes. They also contradict the real visits (seven-kind ramyeon bar, spicy makchang not sold by the half and slow to come), so we left them out of every count.
