Minsokchin Hanu Bulgogi
민속친한우불고기 A roadside Korean-beef house in Gunwi where the bulgogi is bottomless and you fetch it yourself
Compiled from 27 blog posts read in fullSources →
Minsokchin is a butcher-restaurant standing on its own beside the highway that runs north out of Daegu through Gunwi. Its name rests on one thing: all-you-can-eat Korean beef bulgogi — though you may also pick a cut from the butcher's case by the door, pay a cover charge, and grill it yourself. The bulgogi is brought out once; after that you fetch it, bowl and all, from a refrigerator in the middle of the room. The side dishes are self-service too, and a kettle of stock stands on every table. It used to be the Minsok beef house in the town centre and took its present name when it moved out to the highway, six posts record. Half past ten in the morning to half past eight at night, every day; nobody records a closing day. The posts we read run from November 2024 to September 2026.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.
These hours are counted from the posts we read. Shops change them without notice — check Naver Place before you go. Place — check hours
What sets it apart
- Almost everything here you fetch yourself, and twenty-three posts say so — but the point is that there are two self-service stations: one for the side dishes, and a separate refrigerator of bulgogi. Order the bottomless option and the staff bring the first pot; after that you carry it over yourself. Three note the bowls come in two makes, heavier and lighter on meat, and one advises taking the lighter one often if you like the vegetables and glass noodles. Does it feel like imposing? Two writers answer directly: no, nobody gives you a look, and no, the later bowls are no smaller — and, better, you never have to call anyone over. The side dishes are a plain four or five, but four posts single out the pickled chillies, mushrooms and onion, which is what you eat when the soy sauce begins to tire. One writer alone takes a different line: self-service usually puts her off on hygiene grounds, and here she liked that a member of staff tends the counter and portions things out in advance.
- There is a room to wait in, and it is a building of its own beside the restaurant — nine posts mention it. One reads the size of it as a verdict: a big waiting room means business is very good. Another, in November 2025, was told it had just been built, and drew the same conclusion. Two describe the inside: tables and chairs, a toilet, and a free drink each, warm in winter and cool in summer. A queue terminal stands at the door. Only one writer actually waited, and not long; one arrived at two in the afternoon to no queue at all; and four pass on that weekends, holidays and the lunch hour can be busy.
- The people calling it cheap and the people calling it dear are pointing at different things. Eleven of the thirteen posts that discuss money say cheap, and every one of them means the bottomless bulgogi — where else, one asks, do you eat Korean beef without limit for seventeen thousand won. The two who say dear mean something else: one, the ₩4,000-a-head cover charge for grilling; the other, ₩10,000 for a preschooler on the bottomless option. On top of that, eight posts record that the lettuce, garlic and chillies cost ₩1,000 each — three reason that the beef has to be paid for somehow, one calls it the single thing wrong with the place. And the prices rose over the two years: the bottomless option from ₩17,000 to ₩19,000, the single portion from ₩10,000 to ₩12,000, a primary-school child from ₩13,000 to ₩15,000.
- This place moved. Six posts say so, and they remember the old name slightly differently each time — the Minsok beef restaurant, Gunwi Minsok beef, the old Minsok beef village. The address moved with it, out of the town centre to the highway between Gunwi and Hyoryeong, and regulars got lost. One writer searched and searched for an address that no longer existed before learning the name had changed too; another decided the building did not match her memory and went somewhere else entirely (that post is not in our count). Two say what changed: the room is smaller than it was but far pleasanter, and a waiting room appeared next door. One remembers further back still — to when the bottomless option was eleven thousand won.
11 more
- Exactly one writer explains how to come without a car. At the foot of a December 2024 post sits a note for people on foot: take the Daegu express bus number 9 from Chilgok, stay on it for about an hour through two townships, get off at Museong 2-3-ri, and walk five minutes. The other twenty-six posts mention neither bus nor train. Two give the driver's landmark instead — about a kilometre and a half along the highway from the Gunwi interchange. We have not verified the bus route: it is one person's note from 2024, and we do not know how often it runs, or whether it still does.
- People come here in numbers. Thirteen posts mention the rooms or the group tables — one gives a size, ten to twelve; another praises partitions high enough for privacy without closing you in. The visits bear it out: a family gathering on New Year's Day, a work dinner, a hiking club's meal after coming down off the ridge, booked in advance, a farmers' association's year-end meeting, a grandmother and an aunt. One writer reckons the walking clubs must come often; another, on New Year's Day, found the room full of families who had brought their grandparents to lunch. There is space for it — ten call the room large, four note the distance between tables.
- Two writers say opposite things about the seating. One, in November 2024, describes sofas with backs to lean into. Another, in January 2025, writes that the tables are enormously wide but the chairs cannot be pulled in to them, so a short person or a child sits at a distance. The two need not contradict each other — fixed benches with backs would satisfy both. But nobody says which the room is mostly made of, or whether movable chairs exist, and it is worth knowing if you are bringing a child.
- Four posts say there are high chairs and one says there are not. Two of the four go further: disposable aprons (August 2026), toddler cutlery (January 2026), child-sized spoons (December 2025). The dissenting post, from November 2025, marks "high chair: no" in its header box and never returns to it — we cannot tell whether she asked and was told, or simply did not see any. Posts on either side of it say there are, so the likelier reading is that she missed them, but we have not confirmed it. Three posts came with children and all three report the sweet-salty bulgogi going down well.
- A line from the wall turns up in post after post. Six of them reproduce, almost word for word, two sentences: that only domestic beef, rice and cabbage kimchi are used, and that the operation runs from farm to table under one owner with the middlemen cut out. It is plainly copied from a notice. So this is the shop's claim, not a customer's finding. Two observations do sit alongside it: one writer knows of the company's butchery nearby, with its own abattoir, and puts the freshness down to that; and a post we excluded from the count mentions that its author's aunt works at the firm's plant. One post records a grade on the label, the top one.
- Coffee on the way out costs nothing. Eight posts mention it — three call it a vending machine, two describe helping yourself. One counted the buttons: milk, cream, sugar, black, and milk on its own, which she was glad of for the children. Another writes that the instant coffee is not the point: the view from the front of the restaurant is, and a cup of it under the shade of the trees out there is what brings her back. Three note a separate café in the building next door.
- Five writers had been before, one of them counting: this was her third visit, and the first two were why. The others put it loosely — a regular stop whenever they are in Gunwi; somewhere they come often; back again after a visit last summer; somewhere they used to come with the in-laws. Five more say they intend to return, which is an intention and not a visit, and is counted separately. What stands out is that the reason for choosing this place is usually a condition rather than a flavour: they came before it moved, it is bottomless, the parking is easy, it suits bringing elderly parents. Four posts bear that last one out, noting how many older customers were in the room and how soft the beef is for them.
- There is a washbasin by the door, and the four posts that mention it all place it the same way — wash your hands on the way in before you start wrapping, one says; another finds it again on the way out, beside the coffee machine. It is the sensible fitting for a place where you eat with your hands, though slightly ironic given that the leaves to wrap with are not included. One post places the toilet at the very back of the room; one found it clean.
- Three ways to take something home. First, bulgogi by the portion — ₩18,000 for two, ₩24,000 for three (July 2026), which means two portions to go cost less than one person eating in. Second, the grilling cuts in the butcher's case by the door, which two posts note you may buy without staying. Third, meal kits — beef soup, bone broth and rib soup, according to one post. All four stop at describing the offer; nobody records buying anything.
- Six posts call it clean and one does not. The six tie it to the building's newness: recently opened and smartly fitted; so new that the whole place felt spotless; pleasanter inside than it used to be. One goes as far as the staff — clean uniforms and caps, and food handled carefully. The dissenting post, from August 2026, scores cleanliness 7.5 out of 10 in its summary table and closes by saying that cleanliness was a slight disappointment but everything else satisfied. It does not say what the disappointment was.
- Five posts describe something a member of staff did, and every one of them is small: telling a table what to set the burner to (January 2025), carrying out the first pot of the bottomless bulgogi (July 2026), never making anyone feel watched at the self-service counter however many trips they make (November 2024), keeping the side-dish counter tended and portioned out (December 2024), and simply smiling (April 2026). Nobody writes about being poorly served. One scores friendliness 8 out of 10. In a place where you fetch nearly everything yourself there is little occasion to deal with anyone, which is probably why there is so little to record.

Parking
19 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

Nineteen posts write about parking and ten of them go out of their way to say there is a lot of it — the forecourt is wide, the spaces are endless, there is not the slightest cause for worry. The building stands alone, so the car park is the ground in front of it. One writer notes cars on the verge at weekends, and one, arriving at opening time, found it nearly empty. Being on a highway, this is a place you drive to: of the fifteen posts that say who came, most came as families or parties, and four came for the drive.

Nobody says what floor it is on, or whether there are steps at the door. Two describe a large building standing alone by the road, visible from a distance; two more call it newly built and clean; and nine record a separate waiting room in its own building alongside. But not one says whether the restaurant is at ground level, or whether the entrance meets the car park flat.
Nobody records going in with a wheelchair or a pushchair. Nobody looked for a step, or checked whether the run from the car park to the door is level. Two threads of evidence exist and they point different ways. One is encouraging: a single-storey building on the highway with its car park immediately in front (two posts say parking is right at the door), and ten posts on how wide the room is and how far apart the tables. The other is not: one writer notes the chairs cannot be pulled in to the table, so anyone short, or a child, sits awkwardly — fixed seating, if that is what it is, is hard to draw a wheelchair up to. She was not writing about wheelchairs. One post places the toilet at the very back of the room.
No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 28 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- We count twenty-seven posts, not thirty. Two were not about this restaurant: a scraped "ten best in Gunwi" listing, and a write-up of a different beef house down the road — whose author set out for this one, decided on arrival that it did not match her memory, and went elsewhere, so that all she passes on about this place is hearsay from an aunt. The third was one person writing up one meal twice, on Naver and on Tistory: the same order down to the won, the same list of side dishes, the same sentences. We counted it once. The remaining twenty-seven were written by twenty-seven people. Not one declares a sponsorship; seven say they paid their own way and four that somebody else did — a work dinner, an uncle, a hiking club's post-descent meal, a companion.
- The posts disagree about what the meat is grilled over. A December 2024 writer puts charcoal among the reasons to come — beef over charcoal, she says, is perfect. A February 2026 writer says the exact opposite: this is a stone-plate place and charcoal is not used, so know that before you go. The posts in between are no help, because they are about the bulgogi, which is simmered in a shallow pot over an induction ring or a portable gas burner (three describe it that way); the grilling is a separate arrangement. The business is licensed as a charcoal grill. Whether it changed in those fourteen months, whether it varies by table, or whether one of them misremembered, we could not settle. If charcoal is the reason you are going, ring first.
