동궁찜닭 서재점 A branch of a Daegu jjimdak chain: braised soy-and-chilli chicken with glass noodles, four tables and a busy delivery window
Korean · Dalseong-gun, Dasa-eup
Data as of · Published ·
Donggung Jjimdak Seojae is a braised-chicken shop on the ground floor of a building beside the entrance to Seojae primary school, in Dasa-eup on the western edge of Daegu. It is one branch of a Daegu chain, and it opened on 29 May 2026 — everything we read was written in the four months after that, so this page describes a very new shop. Eleven in the morning until 21:40, or 22:00 from Friday to Sunday, with no closing day. Jjimdak is all it sells — soy, chilli paste, the two blended, aged kimchi, rosé, beef intestine — and you choose the size, bone or boneless, the heat, and which noodles. The dining room is four tables: two for two, two for four.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

What sets it apart
- This is a delivery kitchen with four tables in front of it. Of the twenty-eight posts, thirteen only ever had it delivered — those thirteen have nothing to say about seats, parking or the room, so we left them out of the count. Of the fifteen who went in, ten call it small, and the four who counted tables agree: two twos and two fours. Nobody minds. Two push back explicitly — "don't worry, it isn't cramped," "the tables are well spaced." What the ones who ate in actually have in common is a sound — two of them, separately, describe the delivery alerts going off without pause and riders coming in and out while they ate.
- It is cheaper if you go and fetch it. Twelve posts note the ₩3,000 collection discount, and five say that until 27 June 2026, just after opening, it was ₩5,000 off plus five flat dumplings free. Three actually collected at that price, and one opens her post with "I went to the shop to get the discount." Layered on top is a review offer, so six writers were given the flat dumplings, extra noodles or a drink for nothing. Two note that the economy delivery option carries no fee, and one stacked the city's own delivery app with discounted gift vouchers to pay ten per cent less. So the price in a post is not always the price that writer paid.
- The kitchen is open to the room. Four writers watched the owner cook; three noticed the origin board on the wall, item by item — chilli powder, kimchi, beef intestine, rice, chicken. This is where these posts all rhyme — a chain of phrases about domestic chilled Harim chicken, food-safety certification, a pest-control contract, and being "the only branch using domestic chilled meat for the boneless option" recurs in more than ten posts in almost identical wording. That is the shop's own claim and we have not checked it. What we can count is that the kitchen was visible and the origin board was up. Separately, six writers say in their own words that the boneless chicken had no off smell, and two of those note they are usually sensitive to it.
- Even a half bird becomes a problem of quantity. Eleven posts say there is a lot, and they say it the same way — five ordered a half expecting too little and were taken aback, six took leftovers home or ate them the next day. Two had a third of it left after three people; one packed the rest into her husband's lunchbox. Three advise a half for two adults and a whole for three or more. One writer asked the owner and was told the two-person size feeds three. The base dish already carries noodles, three or four pieces of potato, rice cake, two dumplings, a boiled egg or quail eggs and vegetables, and one writer found that piling on toppings left her short of broth.
- The room is set up on the assumption that children come. Nine writers saw a high chair and one counted two. Five say the "utterly mild" setting — which exists only on the soy version — is safe for a three- or four-year-old, and all five are repeating what they were told rather than what they ordered: the three who did choose a mild setting for children chose plain mild, not the utterly mild one. Of plain mild, one says it is gentler than the mildest supermarket instant noodle, and another that it is not quite heatless, so a layer of cheese helps. Two switched to boneless so they would not have to pick bones for the children; three noticed disposable aprons laid out in the dining room.
- One post gives the owner's history: her companion said the branches taste different and this one tastes like the original, so she asked, and was told the owner had worked at the flagship for years, left recently, and opened this straight after. It is one post and we have not checked it. Another writer says only that the owner's previous place had a reputation — without naming it, or saying whether she ran it or worked there, so we cannot tell whether it is the same story. Eight posts speak well of the service, and two asked for their noodles bagged separately for delivery and got them pre-soaked in their own bag.

Parking
5 posts say you can park; 1 say you cannot. We leave the disagreement standing rather than picking a side.

| Posts saying you cannot | 1 of 15 posts |
There is no car park of its own, and the posts disagree about where to leave a car. Six actually parked. Five put it right in front of the shop — one having asked the owner, who said the credit union's lot next door charges and the front is fine — and one used the free first ten minutes of that paid lot to collect a takeaway. But one writer says that with no car park of its own, driving here may be a little awkward. Four suggest the side lanes when the front is taken, but three of those four only ever had it delivered, so we did not count them. One post says the lanes work in its body and prints "no parking" in its information block, contradicting itself; we did not count it either. Only one writer says how many cars fit out front — one or two — and nobody gives the price of the lot next door.

Getting there

Getting inside
| Second floor | yes 0 · no 2 (of 15 posts read) |
|---|
It is at street level. Two writers say so — "on the ground floor, easy to find," "ground floor on the main road, in the building next to the credit union" — and the registered address agrees. Nobody writes about stairs. But nobody looked at the doorway either, so beyond the floor we know nothing about the way in.
Nobody writes about getting in with a wheelchair. Across all twenty-eight posts the words for wheelchair, pushchair, ramp, step, threshold and step-free access do not appear once. Two note the ground floor and the main road, but whether there is a lip at the door, or how wide it is — no one looked. This is not a no; it is that we do not know. Ten describe a room of four tables, so the gaps may be tight, though we did not check that either. Nine writers noticed a high chair, and not one of those nine says whether a pushchair fits through the door.
Not one post mentions a toilet. The word does not appear once in twenty-eight posts, even though twelve of the writers ate in the dining room. Whether it is inside, shared with the building, or out the door, we do not know. These posts are otherwise careful about the room — the four tables, the high chairs, the disposable aprons, the plates and scissors on the self-serve counter — and still nobody looked. It reads like a delivery shop being reviewed the way delivery is reviewed.
No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 28 posts we gathered, 13 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- Only one writer describes getting here without a car, and that one gives a bus stop a minute's walk away — in an information block alongside the parking and the amenities, so we cannot tell whether she took the bus at all. Nobody mentions the subway. For landmarks: five put it beside the entrance to Seojae primary school, one near the local council office, three next door to a credit union. Five drove, and all five open with parking. That nobody writes about arriving on foot is itself part of the picture.
- Not one writer says they queued. The Korean words for waiting in line do not appear once. What three do give is how long the food took — ten to fifteen minutes, fifteen, and twenty-five to thirty including delivery. Two note it is cooked to order, so that is cooking time rather than waiting. With four tables the room could fill, but nobody writes about finding it full. One notes plenty of walk-in customers even at weekday lunch, and two describe the delivery orders never stopping. One rang ahead and collected at an agreed time.
- This page records a shop that has only just opened. It began trading on 29 May 2026, and all twenty-eight posts we read were written within four months of that. Eighteen open with the words "newly opened." So there are no shifting prices here, no changed menu, no difference between seasons — the shop has been through one summer, and so have we. Nine writers say who paid. Six carry a line at the top about having been given a meal voucher by the business, or a "#sponsored" tag; three state they paid their own way. The other nineteen say nothing — and the same supplied phrases recur almost verbatim in those nineteen too: the certified domestic chilled chicken, the pest-control contract, being the only branch using domestic chilled meat boneless, the mild setting a toddler can eat. We did not count those phrases. We did not drop posts for sharing them, though — what we dropped were the delivery-only posts, and the ones we kept each ate something different, paid something different, and noticed something different.
