Dining Tamong's Cheonan Sinbu branch is an izakaya done up as a Japanese street tent, in the eating alley opposite the Shinsegae store in Sinbu-dong, Cheonan. It opened around December 2025, and two writers gloss the name as a dining room that carries dreams. The signature is tacoten — a whole octopus, battered and fried, laid over yakisoba, okonomiyaki, spicy rice cakes or a soup — while everything without the octopus sits around ten thousand won. A 300cc draught is ₩2,900; Suntory and Stella are ₩5,900. You order on a tablet or by QR code, and the okonomiyaki comes with a choice of three mayonnaises. Five in the evening until three in the morning, later on Fridays and Saturdays, closed one Tuesday a month. There is no car park of its own; people use the public one nearby. What sets it apart

A 300cc draught costs ₩2,900, and all thirty posts record it. Eighteen put it in the headline or the first line, and five say plainly that it is why they walked in — the banner outside was more than they could resist. The domestic draught, though, is ₩3,900 in two posts from December and January. Four note the small glass, one glad it is not the usual half-litre. Suntory Premium Malt's and Stella are ₩5,900, and the four who drank them had not found Suntory on draught in this city before. Two note an alcohol-free option, and three price the highballs between ₩4,900 and ₩8,500.
Thirteen posts carry the claims of a sauce learned from a Michelin-listed Tokyo restaurant and of a Korean patent on frying a whole octopus. The wording barely varies, so it is the shop's own, and one post names the Tokyo restaurant. We have not verified it. Of the two things the claim points at, we have only read about one: fourteen writers ate an octopus dish, while three ate from the grilled menu the Michelin sauce is attached to. Twelve copied those grills off the board, and nine posts end by promising to try them next time. What the shop leads with is the part we know least about.
Twenty-five call it roomy and none calls it cramped. One counts the seats: more than ten tables of four. Ten say the tables are well spaced, and one credits the high ceiling for keeping the noise down when it fills. Seven describe window seats and a counter, and four of them name those seats as somewhere to drink alone. One found her window bay had a window that opened, which made it feel like drinking outdoors. Groups fit too: one saw a table of more than eight, and three mention student trips and graduation parties. The décor descriptions overlap — paper lanterns, posters on the walls, Japanese pop, which one writer identified as a top-hundred playlist.
Sixteen posts describe ordering from the table, though the method varies by seat: twelve a tablet, three a QR code — one writer found that only her table used the code while the others had pads. One notes you pay at the end. Five like that every dish is photographed, two that the popular ones are starred. Ten mention the menu board set outside, and several give it as the reason they came in at all. Some things are still asked for out loud: a different mayonnaise on the okonomiyaki (seven), warmed sake (one), the soup reheated and noodles added (three), a sauce refill (one).
Thirteen posts discuss the service and none complains. The specifics are concrete: an offer, unprompted, to reheat the broth (three); advice to cut the fried octopus small; a sauce swapped; warmed sake on request; the table set for the right number as soon as they sat; an invitation to take whatever seat they liked. The most striking is from March 2026: a guest produced a birthday cake, the owner not only allowed it but put on a birthday song, and the rest of the room joined in. One writer notes the Japanese greeting called out in Korean.
All thirty call it cheap and none calls it dear. The reasons overlap: dishes in the ten-thousand-won range (twelve), the ₩2,900 beer (all thirty), and portions worth sharing (eight). Four total up the bill — three came to under thirty thousand won for three dishes and drinks, one to under forty for three dishes and four drinks. Two measure the octopus against fried chicken and find it cheaper. Nine describe a receipt-review giveaway offering a small beer, chips, cola or a hangover stick, and one collected a beer voucher by following the shop online. Two note that the local currency cards are accepted.
Nobody reports queuing. Four watched the room fill: half past five in the afternoon already had a crowd; a Monday was packed; one arrived at opening and watched it fill through the evening; a January visit coincided with parties of twenty-year-olds fresh from graduation, who had booked. Against that, one found a table of more than eight in and still felt unhurried. One writer guesses that Thursday to Saturday would need a wait, but she is reasoning from the queues at other shops, not from waiting here. Bookings go through the usual app, noted by six. One mentions two chairs at the door, another a spot outside to clear your head.
There is a basin inside the room, mentioned by four, and each has a reason for singling it out: a wet wipe feels inadequate before eating, the toilet is too far to bother with, and — from the writer who put it best — you are going to want to pull the octopus apart with your hands, and the sink is right behind you. Seven note the coat rail beside it, welcome both for the space it saves at the table and for keeping the smell out of a jacket. One records napkins, a bottle opener and paper cups on the table.
How hot things are depends on the dish. Four find the spicy rice cakes manageable for anyone; one found them enough to make her mouth tingle. On the mala version two disagree outright. The okonomiyaki lets you set the level with the sauce: three chose the fire-chicken mayonnaise precisely to make it hot, while four chose the wasabi one on the grounds that it cuts richness without adding heat. One found the chilli mayonnaise hotter than elsewhere; another notes that the chicken-skin sauces go up to fire-chicken.

There is no car park of its own; people use the public one in Sinbu-dong. Eight name it, one putting it a minute's walk from the lot opposite the Shinsegae store, another calling it cheap and large enough to leave you free in how you travel. Two, though, state flatly that there is no parking, one of them rating the roadside alternative as moderately difficult. One notes it is not free. Three drove and therefore did not drink — all three switched to a zero-alcohol beer or a soft drink. One warns that the streets around fill up in the evening.

One post says which floor: the shop is right there on the ground floor of the building. The registered address agrees. Whether there are steps, and what is above, nobody writes. The landmarks do recur, though: past the ABC Mart opposite the Shinsegae store and into the alley, on the line with the Twosome and the chicken-galbi place. Four mention that the blue sign is easy to spot.

Not one line about steps, ramps or wheelchairs appears in any of the thirty posts. One writer notes only that the shop is visible on the ground floor and easy to find; nobody says whether there is a step at the door or how wide it is. Nobody brought a child either — this is a student drinking street busy until late, and no post involves one. Whether a wheelchair can get in, we do not know.

Three posts contradict each other. A March 2026 review says the toilet is inside and reserved for the restaurant, so there is no queue. An April one says you go out of the building to reach it, and notes approvingly that it is split by sex. Another April post says you leave by a back door. Whether it belongs to the restaurant or the building, we cannot settle. Two say it is divided by sex. One writer confused the entrance with the pork restaurant next door and opened the wrong one. What four do establish is a basin inside the room for washing hands, which they welcome as better than a wet wipe and less trouble than the toilet.

What we do not know

The posts cluster into the shop's first four months, and none was written after April 2026. All thirty fall between 18 December 2025 and 19 April 2026, twelve of them in January alone, and several describe themselves as visits to somewhere just opened — one notes which restaurants held the premises before. So the prices and the menu recorded here are mostly those of a shop four months old. It was still trading in an April 2026 post; of the five months since we know nothing. Two posts declare a sponsorship.
The Friday and Saturday closing time is either four or five in the morning. Of the twenty-seven posts that give hours, thirteen record only three o'clock, nine add four for Friday and Saturday, three add five, one extends only Saturday, and one puts every night at four. That the base is three and it stretches at the weekend is clear; how far, we do not know. Check before making a late night of it. Twenty-six posts give the closing day as one Tuesday a month, the second or the third — not weekly, so we have not entered it as a day of the week, and two advise checking the shop's notices.
