Nangman Pocha

낭만포차 Small late-night pocha in Seosan

Data as of · Published ·

Nangman Pocha sits in the eating-alley of Dongmun-dong in Seosan, next door to a grill chain and across from the old beer house. One person cooks and serves. Two dishes hold the place up — a beef-tendon hotpot and "tulip" chicken feet — with whelks, a fish-cake pot and stir-fried octopus around them, and noodles or porridge to finish. You fetch your own drinks from the soju fridge and the beer fridge and settle at the end. There are three or four tables; the walls are covered in foreign number plates, old posters and drinkers' proverbs. Five in the evening until midnight. The posts we read run from February 2025 to September 2026.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

These hours are counted from the posts we read. Shops change them without notice — check Naver Place before you go. Place — check hours

What sets it apart

  1. One person cooks, so this is a place you ring ahead. Fourteen posts raise booking, and five of those pass on — or were told — that when it is busy the food takes a while, because the owner is alone in the kitchen. Six ordered in advance, and all six arrived to a table already laid: "we sat down and started eating." Ask early enough and the kitchen will make things that are not on the menu — three writers say so, and a February 2025 work dinner had oyster bossam, steamed skate and a raw tonguefish salad made to order. The shop's own notice, copied word for word into four posts, asks for three days' notice for off-menu dishes. The whole room can be hired, and one writer explains that when it is, the tables are pushed into a circle so that everyone can hear everyone.
  2. You fetch your own drinks — sixteen posts say so. Two fridges, soju and beer; you take what you want, drop the empties in the basket beside the table and settle on the way out. The soju is not chilled but frozen — two writers describe knocking the base and watching ice crystals bloom, and for two of them that alone is the recommendation. One counts four brands. Two posts put both soju and beer at ₩5,000. Water and soft drinks are self-service too, and one writer was delighted to find an ice machine rather than having to ask. The bottle opener is shaped like a hammer, which four writers thought worth mentioning; one tells you where to find it, stuck to the soju fridge.
  3. Things arrive without being ordered, and nineteen writers record them. A bagged snack sits on every table — one writer names the three biscuits — and with it comes seaweed soup made with dried pollack, plus spring-onion and mustard-leaf kimchi. Six writers describe the soup and every one of them is startled by it: "home cooking, in a drinking den"; "the best seaweed soup I've had in ages"; one now comes here for it on birthdays. One asked, and was told the owner adds dried pollack because thin seaweed soup annoys him. Another had a refill and poured rice into it, and got a fried egg on top unasked. Three were sent off with more biscuits. What appears varies by night, though — some tables got pickles and dressed garlic chives instead of the soup.
  4. You can get here without a car — five writers say so and two have measured it. Two put it at ten minutes on foot from the Seosan bus terminal (the same blogger, on two visits); one at fifteen minutes from the lake park. One took a taxi because they intended to drink; another recommends public transport outright, because the parking is awkward. But no post gives a bus number or a stop name — we know how long the walk is, and not which bus comes here.
  5. It is small — three or four tables — and twelve writers say so. None calls it roomy. Five of them count: "exactly four round pocha tables," "three tables, snug," "four, I think? a little place." Not one of them means it as a complaint — the same sentences run on into "like a hideout," "cosy," "it never felt cramped." The word they keep reaching for, in more than ten sets of hashtags, is *ajit*: a den of one's own. Where the size does bite: a party has to take the whole room (one writer suggests it from about ten people up), and another warns that on a busy evening there may be no table without a booking.

Parking

13 posts say you cannot park. None say you can.

Posts saying you cannot13 of 25 posts

There is no car park — all thirteen posts that raise it say the same. Three places people leave the car: the kerb in front (six posts), a public car park nearby (five), and marked bays in the side lanes (one). One writer got the space beside the grill house next door because it was closed that day — and even they tell you to use the public car park or come without a car when it is not. Of those who say to use the kerb, one adds a careful disclaimer: they have never been ticketed, but you are on your own. Two writers simply advise public transport or walking, because the bays are ambiguous. Nobody reports failing to park.

Getting inside

Toilet insideyes 0 · no 1 (of 25 posts read)

No post says what floor it is on. The registered address ends "1F," but in twenty-five posts nobody mentions a floor, a stair or a lift. Plenty give directions, and all of them do it by neighbour — the row with the grill chain, across from the old beer house, next door to the grill chain. One writer says they were drawn in by the look of the room seen from the street, so you can see inside from outside. Whether you step up to get in, nobody says. The only stairs anyone mentions are the ones out in the lane, on the way to the toilet.

Nobody writes about getting in with a wheelchair or a pushchair. In twenty-five posts the words for wheelchair, pushchair, step, threshold and ramp do not appear once. Two things in the record touch on it sideways — the toilet is out in the lane, up steps (one post), and there are only three or four tables, set close (twelve posts). Neither was written as an answer to this question. Whether there is a step at the door, whether a chair can turn inside: we do not know. One writer came with a child and does not say how they got in either.

The toilet is outside the restaurant — one writer looked, and left directions. A June 2026 post: out of the door, right, into the lane, up the yellow steps, on the right. It is the only one of the twenty-five that mentions the toilet at all. So that is the whole of what we know: it is out in the lane, and there are steps to it. Whether men's and women's are separate, how many stalls, whether it is clean — nobody says. For a place that runs from five in the evening to midnight, a lane and a flight of steps is worth knowing on its own.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know

  • Twenty-five, not thirty. Five posts were dropped outright, and every one of them was about Yeosu. There is a Nangman Pocha there too — the row of seafront stalls under the Geobukseon bridge — and the five describe buying octopus there, taking a harbour cruise, or staying at a hostel nearby. One is a small-business platform quoting a bank's report on "Dongmun-dong (the Nangman Pocha strip), 61% of takings after dark." The Yeosu strip is in a Dongmun-dong as well — theirs in Yeosu, ours in Seosan — so the neighbourhood name does not separate them. In those five posts the word Yeosu appears between eight and a hundred and four times; Seosan and this street name, not once.
  • Four posts declare that the meal was comped — two with a sponsorship hashtag, one that opens by saying it came through an Instagram programme, one that went along on a friend's. Three say they paid their own way. The other eighteen say nothing, and several of those are built like promotional copy — a star rating, a "this place is for you if…" list. We have not counted them as sponsored, since they do not say so, but it is worth knowing while you read. Three prices also refuse to settle: the chicken-foot set at ₩38,000 and ₩35,000, the plain chicken feet at ₩25,000 and ₩22,000, the rice porridge at ₩8,000 and ₩5,000. The instant noodles went from ₩5,000 in February 2025 to ₩8,000 in February 2026, which reads as a rise — the other two are not explained by their dates.
  • The telephone number changed. Seven posts from 2025 give one number; eight from 2026 give another. The break is clean — the last post with the old number is from November 2025, the first with the new one from January 2026. Separately, two posts also list a mobile (February and September 2025). Since this is a place you are meant to ring before coming, a number copied from an older post may simply not answer. We have published the newer one.
  • No post records a wait. In twenty-five there is no count of minutes, no chairs outside, no list at the door. What there is instead: two warnings that there may be no table on a busy evening, and a bigger point — what you wait for here is the food, not the seat. Five writers note that with one person cooking the dishes can be slow when the room fills, which is why six of them ordered ahead. It reads less like a place with a queue than a place with four tables. But nobody has been turned away and written about it.
