족발신선생 충남당진점 Pork trotters boiled then finished in a wood-fired oven, open from mid-afternoon until two in the morning

Data as of · Published ·

Jokbal Sinseonsaeng is a pork-trotter house in a shopping block across from the arts centre in Dangjin. What sets it apart is the oven: the trotters are boiled, then finished in a wood-fired oven, and the house dish is a whole one carved at the table. It opens at three in the afternoon and closes at two in the morning — no lunch, and much of its trade is late drinking. Order a main and a spicy soft-tofu stew comes free, plus your choice of cold buckwheat noodles or a gorgonzola pizza. It is one branch of a national chain and opened in April 2025. The posts we read run from April 2025 to September 2026.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

These hours are counted from the posts we read. Shops change them without notice — check Naver Place before you go. Place — check hours

What sets it apart

  1. Anything from the oven takes about fifteen minutes. Five writers copy down the sign that says so, rather charmingly headed 'the aesthetics of waiting'. Four describe actually waiting, and all four think it was worth it. One, though, expected a wait and found the food came faster than that; another says it arrived about as soon as she had poured a drink — so fifteen minutes is not a rule. Two note that the kitchen is open and the oven is visible from the floor, and both find it an odd thing to meet in a trotter house.
  2. The first setting comes to the table and the rest is a help-yourself bar — all thirteen visitors mention it. Three list what is on it, and they agree on lettuce, cabbage kimchi, chives, pickled onion, dried radish, garlic, chilli, soybean paste and salted shrimp. Perilla leaf is not brought out; it is only on the bar, says one. Which item people singled out varies: chives twice, radish kimchi refilled several times, pickled onion sitting in a mustard dressing that one writer found bracing, and the kimchi reportedly made in-house. Two note that the water on the table is hovenia tea rather than water
  3. Ten posts call it roomy — many tables, well spaced, and two mention partitions that make a corner of it your own. One party of five ate here. Nobody records an actual work dinner, though eight say it would suit one. Five mention the big screen and the sport you could watch on it; not one of them says they watched any. One notes seats that take your bags.
  4. There are celebrity autographs on the wall, and nobody knows whether those people came. Two writers mention them: one in June 2025 is simply impressed by the names, and one in March 2026 says plainly that she has no idea whether any of them actually ate here. We could not answer her question either. The television claim is a separate matter: sixteen of the thirty posts we read repeat that the place featured on a well-known variety show and that a particular actor praised it — most of those sixteen are posts we excluded, and not one of them gives an episode, or says whether it was this Dangjin branch or the chain. We have not verified it.
  5. People disagree about the portions, and the disagreement follows the size they ordered. The whole roast trotter (₩53,000) struck one writer as too much for two and right for three or four; a medium half-and-half (₩63,000) was finished by two, though she notes the richness caught up with them. By contrast the writer who took the medium plain trotter (₩45,000) found it less than generous and plans to order the large next time. A party of five who took two half-and-half plates thought it looked short and were full at the end. Read together: the medium may not stretch for two.
  6. Four thousand won off if you take it away — four posts say so. One writer carried the remains home and reported the next day that it is good cold. They deliver, too: one visitor arriving at opening time found the delivery orders already flowing, and another saw a corner of the room given over to packing them. None of the thirteen ordered delivery, though — all thirteen sat down. One argues for doing the same, on the grounds that you cannot take the help-yourself bar home.

Parking

3 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

Posts saying you can park3 of 13 posts

Parking is tight. Two writers put the space behind the building at three or four cars, and a June 2025 post states flatly that there is no dedicated car park and that you will probably end up at the kerb. On the other hand, two mention a large free public car park diagonally behind, and one writer used it. Four came by car — and three of those four note that this is why they did not drink, which matters at a place that stays open until two.

Getting inside

Toilet insideyes 0 · no 1 (of 13 posts read)
Separate restrooms1 of 13 posts

Nobody says what floor the restaurant is on. The address is unit 105 in a commercial block, and writers describe a clear sign on a wide frontage and a standing board by the door, which reads like something you see from the street — but no post mentions stairs, up or down. One mention of a basement refers to the building's parking. The unit number suggests the ground floor, but that is our inference, and we will not write an inference down as a fact.

Not one writer says whether you can get in with a wheelchair or a pushchair. The words for step, threshold and ramp appear nowhere in the thirteen posts. Three mention high chairs, so children do come — but none of those three brought a pushchair through the door. It is unit 105 in a commercial block and ten posts call the room itself spacious, yet nobody describes the entrance. One thing worth flagging: the toilet is out in the building, and nobody describes that walk either. We will not say it works and we will not say it does not.

The toilet is not inside the restaurant but in the building. A July 2025 writer puts it plainly: you go out of the door and it is along from there. A June 2025 post confirms that men's and women's are separate. That is the whole of what we know — nobody says whether it is clean, whether it locks, or how far it is. The same June post also records that pets are not allowed and that there are high chairs; two other writers saw the high chairs for themselves.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 30 posts we gathered, 17 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

2025-06-233 posts in one day
2025-06-223 posts in one day
2025-06-202 posts in one day
2025-06-152 posts in one day

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Seventeen of the thirty posts were set aside; every number on this page comes from the remaining thirteen. Fourteen of them went up within twelve days of each other in June 2025, carrying the same twelve hashtags in the same order, character for character. Not one of the fourteen names a price, and not one says what was ordered. The bodies recycle the same lines: the 500-degree oven, crisp outside and moist within, the television appearance, the big screen. Two were not cleaned up properly — one carries the subheading 'The persona's vivid experience' followed by 'As a man in my thirties'; another leaves the English word 'decor' sitting in the Korean sentence. The other three appeared within three days of each other in April 2025, a fortnight after the place opened, and two of them still show a widget reading 'visitor reviews: 3' — articles about a restaurant celebrities rave about, written when three customers had said anything at all. Not one of the seventeen discloses payment. We set them aside all the same, because none of them reads as written by someone who ate here.
  • Nobody writes about getting here without a car. No bus, no taxi, nobody on foot, in any of the thirteen posts. Several say it is easy to reach, being beside the arts-centre junction — but that is either about driving or about where the building is, not about public transport. Four came by car. The place trades until two in the morning and not one person writes about how they got home.
  • Two posts give different prices for the medium oven-roast trotter — ₩45,000 on 6 July 2025 and ₩43,000 on 9 July. Three days is short for a price change, so one of them is probably a slip, but we cannot tell which and have listed both. No post since has priced the dish, so we do not know what it costs now. The other prices do not contradict each other: ₩53,000 for the whole roast, ₩48,000 or ₩63,000 for the half-and-half depending on the pairing, ₩3,000 for the roe sushi, ₩5,000 for the rice balls, ₩6,000 to add the pizza, ₩5,000 each for soju and beer. All of them are 2025 figures; not one post from 2026 names a price.
