Cheongdamdong Shabu

청담동샤브 천안펜타포트점 A one-person shabu-shabu counter on the cinema floor of the Pentaport outlet mall, where every seat gets its own pot

Cheongdamdong Shabu's Cheonan Pentaport branch is a one-person hotpot restaurant on the fifth floor of the Moda outlet in Pentaport Mall, on the same level as the cinema. Every seat has its own induction ring and every diner gets their own pot — a table of four orders four different broths and eats at four different speeds. The broth comes as anchovy, soy, doenjang, spicy, mala or perilla, among others; brisket is standard and you can switch to neck, chuck flap or short plate. The same ingredients can be boiled as shabu-shabu, steamed in a cedar basket, or fried on a plate and dipped in raw egg as sukiyaki. Vegetables, meat, kimchi and a portion of knife-cut noodles arrive on one tray for a little over ten thousand won a head. You order from a tablet, park under the mall and have it validated when you pay. Eleven to nine every day, no afternoon break. The posts we read run from October 2024 to September 2026.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

These hours are counted from the posts we read. Shops change them without notice — check Naver Place before you go. Place — check hours

What sets it apart

  1. People come here to eat by themselves. Single seats run along the wall, or along the window, each with its own ring — there is nothing to feel self-conscious about. One writer has eaten here alone more than five times; another drops in on her way home from work; a third was heading for a café at lunch and got diverted by the smell. One calls it the lowest difficulty setting for eating alone. One found the single seats screened by a partition and liked it; another says they gave the window to the solo diners, which was generous. The seats seem to differ.
  2. You order from a tablet on the table, and one writer argues that is the right way round here — with that many broths, cuts and add-ons, a screen beats a conversation. Order more meat mid-meal and it arrives straight away. The single seats have no tablet, though: one writer notes they have a call button instead. Three others recommend choosing from the photographed menu at the entrance before you go in.
  3. When the broth goes salty you top it up yourself. Jugs stand at the self-serve bar by the door — soy and anchovy, according to one writer — alongside scissors, tongs, aprons and children's bowls. One is glad not to have to call anyone over. This is not just a convenience note: two writers warn that the broth concentrates as you cook in it, and that by the end it can be very salty indeed unless you add broth or water. Worth doing before the noodles or the porridge go in.
  4. The posts disagree about the portion, and they disagree specifically about the meat. The two who call it generous are talking about vegetables — more than they expected, more than a single portion looks like. The four who call it short are talking about beef: "a little thin", "the half-and-half set feels light", "we ordered dumplings because the meat looked short", and "I always add meat here". Read it as: plenty of vegetables, exactly one person's worth of beef. An extra 100g is ₩7,000, so if you eat well, budget for it.
5 more
  1. Just over ten thousand won, and most writers call that cheap — "how is this the price", "low teens", "not expensive for a pot to yourself". One dissents, and she is specific about why. The writer who has eaten here alone many times says she always adds meat, and that when the bill comes she wonders whether she should have gone to an all-you-can-eat place instead. The headline price and the paid price are different things here: ₩7,000 for another 100g of beef, ₩2,000 for porridge, ₩1,000 for fish cake, ₩5,000 for dumplings. It has also gone up — anchovy with brisket was ₩11,900 in June 2025 and ₩12,900 by 2026.
  2. There is a spicy broth and a mala broth, and nobody finds either of them hot. Five writers say some version of the same thing: clean rather than fierce, mild enough, a faint edge and no more; even the mala is described as agreeable to anyone. You do not come here for heat. One adds a caveat, though — not hot for an adult, but small children will not manage it — so the anchovy or soy broth is the safer choice with a child. Order the mala and a peanut sauce comes with it, which one writer calls the making of the dish.
  3. Five writers mention the quiet, and they mean it as a contrast with a grill house. Not a food court, they say; calm; tables far enough apart to talk over; empty and still in the mid-afternoon. One explains why: no extractor hood hanging in front of your face, because nothing is being seared. No smoke, no smell in your clothes — though aprons hang on the wall, since broth spits. On the fifth floor of an outlet mall, it is not what you would expect.
  4. A lot of people come back, and the reason is usually a film. "Every time we come to the CGV here"; "it has become my regular — I eat here whenever I'm at Pentaport for a film"; "we watched something on Saturday and had dinner at the place we always go to". One has eaten alone here more than five times; another has been dropping in since it opened in Cheonan; a third calls it simply her favourite. But one regular adds a qualification: of everything she has tried, the plain shabu-shabu is the best, and the rest of the menu she has worked through has left her wanting.
  5. Seven posts note that children are catered for. One says there are plenty of high chairs; four mention that bowls, spoons and forks for small children sit out on the self-serve bar. One writer is touched by how much of it there is. Since everything is poached, it is easy to lift out a child's portion and let it cool — though it is worth choosing a mild broth, given the one warning that the spicy one will defeat a small child.

Parking

Posts saying you can park12 of 29 posts

You park under the mall and it is only free if the restaurant validates it. Several writers press the point — register at the counter, don't forget the car, and one was told to check the pre-payment machine on the way out. Two hours free, according to two posts. One writer explains a local trick: show the restaurant receipt at the barrier, or have a coffee nearby afterwards and show both receipts together for longer. One found the basement easy even at the weekend. Nobody says what it costs, or what happens past two hours.

Getting inside

Second floor18 of 29 posts
Lift to the floor2 of 29 posts
Toilet insideyes 0 · no 1 (of 29 posts read)

It is on the fifth floor of a shopping mall, and that decides almost everything about it. Eighteen posts mention the floor, most of them locating it opposite the cinema — one advises ignoring the building letter entirely and just finding the CGV. Two spot it reflected in the glass as they step out of the lift; one notes it is not far from the escalator. So people arrive attached to a film or a shopping trip: eight came before or after a screening, three after buying clothes. One writer gives directions by way of the toilets and the noodle shop next door.

Nobody writes about the step at the door. In twenty-nine posts the words wheelchair, pushchair, ramp and threshold do not appear. But here we do know one more thing: it is on the fifth floor and you come up by the mall's lift. Two writers step out of it straight in front of the restaurant; one notes the escalator is close. Shoes stay on and every seat is a chair — not one post mentions floor seating — and there are high chairs and children's bowls. Still, nobody looked at the doorway itself. If you are coming with a wheelchair or a pushchair, ask the restaurant or the mall first.

The toilet appears to be the mall's, not the restaurant's. One writer, giving directions, says the shop is right beside the toilets near the cinema — which places the toilets outside, not inside. Not one writer describes a toilet within the restaurant, and nobody mentions whether it is divided by sex or whether there is an accessible one. On the fifth floor of an outlet mall it will presumably be the mall's; but all we have confirmed is that the restaurant is next door to it.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know

  • Whether you queue splits cleanly, and the hour decides it. Those who waited came at weekend lunch: one took the last free table at ten to twelve and left at twenty to one past a line; another waited twenty minutes behind four parties. Those who walked in came at three in the afternoon, just after the lunch rush, or before six. The advice is on record: arrive around 11:30 at weekends, or get in before six. You wait by writing your name and number on a sheet, and there are chairs outside the door. Two writers say the tables turn fast enough that it never takes long.
  • The posts do not agree on how big it is. Five call it roomy, with tables well apart. But a writer who came in September 2026 found it modest rather than spacious — and her post records what follows from that: on a weekday lunchtime, with the room nearly full, she was seated at a four-top alongside strangers who were already eating. She minded less than she might have, she says, because the food arrives one pot per person. Hers is the only account of being asked to share a table. If you are coming alone, it is worth asking for one of the single seats.
  • Not one writer describes getting here without a car. In twenty-nine posts there is no bus number, no stop, no walk from a station. The hashtags are full of "near Cheonan-Asan station" and one post puts a station in its title, but no post actually describes arriving from one. Parking, by contrast, comes up in twelve — people drive here and go down into the mall. That is not a claim that transit is poor. It is that nobody wrote it down.
  • The menu seems to move, and all we have are traces of it. No two writers count the same number of broths — two say five, one seven, one lists eight. Perilla, water-dropwort-and-anchovy and a chilled version appear only in later posts, and one writer notes there were more dishes than the menu she photographed, which looked new. The contents move too: a returning customer records that the squash that used to be in it has gone. Two mention cold buckwheat noodles in summer; one a discounted lunch set. Better to read the board when you get there — three posts note a photographed menu standing at the entrance.
  • No post mentions a closing day. All eighteen that give the hours give only eleven to nine, every day; nobody records a weekly closure. Two note there is no afternoon break. Being inside a mall, it presumably follows the outlet's own closures, but we could not confirm that — worth a phone call if you are going over a holiday or on a day the mall might shut. Only one post records a last order, at half past eight.
  • One post declares sponsorship — not in the text, but as a single hashtag at the very bottom. The word never appears in the writing itself; read without scrolling to the end, it is simply a review. It is also the largest order anyone here placed: a ₩12,900 anchovy broth with neck, two extra 100g portions of beef at ₩7,000 each, ₩2,000 of porridge and ₩1,000 of fish cake — ₩29,900 for one person. Most of the add-on prices on this page come from that post. Sponsorship does not make the numbers wrong, but no ordinary diner orders like that. Of the other twenty-eight, nine state they paid for themselves, two of them adding that they received nothing from the business at all.
