Wangcheon Padak's Dongnam-jigu branch sits in the eating lane of Dongnam-jigu in Yongam-dong, Cheongju, in the alley behind a Twosome Place. It is one of several Cheongju branches of a chain that began in Jochiwon, and the writers agree, almost unanimously, that this is the best of them. A whole bone-in fried bird arrives buried under shredded spring onion and sliced raw garlic, with the sauce served beside it rather than poured over. One in the afternoon until half past midnight, closed Mondays. The room is large and there is a big television, so it fills up on match nights. They pour draft beer. What sets it apart
- One bird is too much for two. It is the thing writers say most often about this place. Several took the remainder home; one fed three people and had half left; four grown men found a single bird enough. One writer thought about adding a side and gave up because the chicken alone was already too much. Three copy the shop's own notice that the birds are half again the usual size — that is the shop's claim, not a measurement any of them made.
- This is one branch of a chain, and the writers keep saying so. Seven note that the original is inside the market in Jochiwon and that Cheongju alone has several branches. Several of those seven then add that the branches differ and this is the best one — one has eaten at the Jochiwon original and prefers this; one calls it the top branch in the city; one says the room here is bigger than at the others. One writer notes the original does not do boneless. Nobody explains why this branch should be better.
- The spring onion is the point of this place. Seven writers say the heap of raw onion and sliced garlic cuts the grease just as the fried batter starts to cloy. Three note that they will bring more when you finish it; one asked for a refill and says the dish felt new again. How sharp it is divides them: one says the onion was not hot at all, another that it was still fierce and wishes they would soak it in cold water first.
- On match nights this is a different room. Four writers mention the big screen; one walked in without knowing there was a football match on and says the whole room shook when the goal went in. Several say it is packed through the baseball and football seasons. The opposite is also recorded: at six on an ordinary weekday evening it is quiet, and by seven it is heaving — one writer arrived at five to find a single occupied table and watched the room fill inside half an hour.

- Takeaway and delivery are as much of this shop as the room. Six writers remark on the stacked boxes — one watched the pile shrink in real time, one says cars pull up almost like a drive-through, one says the delivery phone rings the whole time you are eating. Four went specifically to collect; one says the wait for a collection order was twenty minutes. Two note that a 500ml bottle of cola comes with it.

There is no car park. Seven writers describe what they did with a car, and all of them parked in the lane outside or on the street. One left the car at the café next door and bought a coffee there afterwards to square it. One says you need two people — one to collect the food, one to circle for a space. One posted a photo of the cars lined along the alley and called it the best you can do. Nobody writes how many cars fit, or whether the street is enforced.

One writer says it is all on the ground floor — the building looks big, he notes, but the shop itself is one storey. The other twenty-three do not mention the floor at all, and nobody says whether there are steps.
Nobody looked at the doorway. In twenty-four posts the words wheelchair, pushchair, step and ramp never appear once. We do not know whether you can get in — not that you cannot, but that no one wrote it down.
The toilet is outside the shop. Three writers say so, and one of them adds that it is outside the building and keypad-locked. Whether it is separated by sex, whether there is an accessible stall, and where you get the code — nobody writes any of it.

What we do not know
- Why twenty-four and not thirty. We collected thirty posts and set six aside: they are not accounts of eating here. Five are month-long diaries with check-ins for half a dozen places — a braised-chicken shop in Seoul, a gukbap house in Gimhae, an amusement park in Gyeongju — in which this shop gets a line or two. One of those was food ordered to the writer's own home, one to a friend's housewarming, and two say only "ordered" or "tried it", which does not tell us whether anyone walked in. A sixth is a roundup of five late-night places in Cheongju that still carries the leftover scaffolding of its template in the first line and calls this shop a 24-hour chicken joint; it opens at one in the afternoon and closes at half past midnight. The last simply copies the opening hours, the menu and the review tallies off the map listing, with no record of eating anything.
- Not one writer says how to get here without a car. In twenty-four posts there is no bus, no stop, no station, no walk in minutes. Everyone who gives directions gives them by sight — the lane behind the Twosome Place in Dongnam-jigu. Whether transit serves it well we cannot say.
- Nobody writes about waiting for a table. Nine posts say the room was full, or packed even on a weekday, yet not one of them records a waiting list or a number of minutes. One writer booked ahead. What happens when there is no table we do not know — whether there is somewhere to wait, whether names are taken, or whether you simply leave.
- The price of a bird does not agree. Ten posts give prices. From October 2024 to April 2026 six of them put the basic bird at ₩22,000, and one April 2026 writer says flatly that it costs what it did three years ago; a June 2026 post says ₩25,000 and a July one ₩24,000. The ₩24,000 recorded in February 2026 was paid through a delivery app for collection, which need not match the counter. We cannot tell a rise from a disagreement, so we publish it as it stands. Nobody writes what a beer costs.
- No post declares a sponsorship. Eight of the twenty-four say they paid; fourteen say nothing either way. The remaining two were treated — a visiting pastor took one writer out, and an old landlady turned up and settled the bill for another. Both wrote down that they had not paid. One caution: more than ten posts open with a block of address-and-hours boilerplate, and two of those blocks carry an address that is not this shop's.
