Wangchojang
왕초장 Wang means king and chojang is the vinegared red-pepper sauce served with raw fish; in Busan a chojang-jip is a market table where you eat fish bought from the stalls around it.

Wangchojang sits in the chojang-jip section at the back of Namcheon Beach Market in Suyeong-gu, Busan. You bring fish bought from the market stalls, or let the owner fetch it, and order cooked dishes such as stir-fried octopus, spicy fish stew with dough flakes, clams steamed in rice wine, and gambas to go with drinks. Eight posts gave a table charge of 6,000 won per person, and five ordered 30,000 won of filefish, mullet or grey mullet. Cooking is charged separately; two posts listed 5,000 won to grill or steam, 10,000 won to stir-fry or pan-fry and 15,000 won for stews or frying. We read 30 posts from 20 September 2025 to 7 October 2026; 22 record an actual meal. Four were about other shops, including the neighbouring chojang tables, and were set aside; four were lists or introductions and were not counted.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.
What sets it apart
- This is a place people book. Ten of the 22 meal posts said they reserved ahead, several by texting the date, time and party size. One post that turned up unbooked on a second visit found every table reserved and ate in an hour and a half before the next booking arrived. Waiting is mixed: two posts found it quiet at 4:30 on a Monday and a Saturday, and two only said a wait could happen.
- Outside food is the point here. Six posts ate things they bought elsewhere: fish from the market stalls, gimbap from a nearby shop, and a baguette from the OPS bakery opposite to mop up the gambas oil. One post (May 2026) was told that bringing fish from elsewhere could cancel their booking, so this is not settled.
- Seven posts said the fish and dishes come in large portions: 30,000 won of mullet for two was plenty, 30,000 won of grey mullet was worth a photo, the squid sashimi was 'way too much', and four people could not finish the glazed eel.
- A market fish table that sells wine: five posts said so, and one ordered a bottle of Chilean sauvignon blanc. Three posts gave corkage as 10,000 won per bottle rather than per person; because there is a fee we do not count it as free corkage.
3 more
- The space is small. Four posts said it is not big, one counted about six tables and another found the tables cramped. Posts keep describing a noisy row of tables in the middle of the market.
- Two posts said food is slow: the owner buys ingredients and cooks alone, so order extras early, and the gambas took a long while. Another found only one server on a busy Friday night and fetched drinks from the fridge themselves.
- Three posts found food salty: 'very salty' overall (May 2026), the pork stir-fry (March 2026) and the gambas (December 2025).

Parking
2 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

There is no parking of its own. Two posts parked at or in front of the market. The copied parking notes disagree: 'no validation, 1,000 won per hour, 5,000 won max' (April 2026) versus 'one hour validated at the market car park' (October 2025).

Where it is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

1 posts say it is walkable from the station.
Getting inside
No post that ate here said which floor it is on. One post wrote 'basement level 1', but it was compiled from other reviews and we did not count it. This means no one said, not that there is nothing to say.
No one mentioned steps, a threshold, or wheelchair or pushchair access. Posts only describe entering the market building and walking past the fish stalls to the back.
No one described the toilets from experience. One post copied 'separate men's and women's toilets' from a listing, which we did not count.
No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 26 posts we gathered, 4 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- Whether it is cheap is split: three posts found it expensive, three called it good value or free of tourist mark-ups, and two only said it is not cheap. Five people paid 80,000 won for fish plus 28,000 won stew, 20,000 won clams and 20,000 won potato pancake (May 2026); eight people paid 313,000 won (December 2025). Fish is at market price, and one post was told squid was 5,000 won above usual that day, so the bill depends on what you buy.
- Opening hours differ between posts. Eleven copied them: eight give 12:00-22:30 (last order 21:30), two 16:00-22:00 and one 17:00-22:30, mixed across dates rather than changing at one point. An October 2026 post said it opens at 4 pm and that staff opened with 'you have two hours'. Only one post copied a closing day (Monday). Check before going.
- One post came by subway and said it is under five minutes from Namcheon station. Two more copied '4 to 5 minutes from exit 3' as listing information.
- We cannot say whether the owner changed. A June 2026 post repeated hearsay that the original owner is no longer around, but a July 2026 post had the owner cooking in the kitchen all evening. Three posts found the staff friendly; one asked for sansho and banga leaf to be left out and got them anyway.
- Seven posts gave the phone number 010-9594-9911. Several said reservations are made by text with date, time and party size; one copied that KakaoTalk is not accepted. The octopus stir-fry sold out in October 2025, February 2026 and July 2026, so ask when booking if you want it.
