Pohang Mulhoetjip

포항물횟집 Pohang Mulhoetjip means 'the Pohang mulhoe house' — named for the Pohang style of cold raw-fish dish, which the house serves without broth, as raw fish mixed with gochujang.

Compiled from 22 blog posts read in fullSources →

A Pohang-style mulhoe house down a side street off Gwangalli Beach, near the Millak raw-fish market. The mulhoe comes with no broth: flatfish and mixed raw fish under julienned pear and cucumber, gochujang sauce and minced garlic, mixed by hand, with rice stirred into what is left. From June 2025 on, posts put it at 20,000 won a bowl. When two or more order it, a big pot of fish stew comes along; solo diners pay 5,000 won extra for the stew. We read 30 posts from November 2024 to September 2026, 24 of them by people who ate here. One was about a different restaurant of the same name in Seomyeon, so we set it aside.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Ten posts said the portions are large, mostly about the stew. One solo diner who paid the extra 5,000 won said the pot alone was huge for the price; a mother-and-son visit wondered if it was really meant for two. One post said the bowl of rice is small, adding that refills are given.
  2. Food comes fast. Six posts said so, and the times they gave were five minutes for the mulhoe, under ten minutes (two posts), and the stew two minutes after the mulhoe was set down. One regular said you can call out "two mulhoe" as you sit down, since at lunch the mulhoe is effectively the only dish.
  3. Three posts mentioned a back room where you take your shoes off, and four said there is a separate room; one counted five tables in it, another said guests are sent there when the hall is full. Two posts said there is a second floor, though on one weekday lunch in June 2025 only the ground floor was open.
  4. Seven posts were by people coming back, and many were regulars: two were by one person who has been coming for twenty years, one by someone who has gone with their father for about 25 years, one by a couple who have come for over a decade. By company, family (parents or spouse) led with six posts, then partners four, solo three, friends two. Several posts noted lots of older local customers.

Parking

9 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

Posts saying you can park9 of 22 posts

Nine posts mentioned the restaurant's own parking lot across the street. Peak lunch is another matter: posts described double-parking when it fills up, and a weekday lunch visit in June 2025 called it a brief parking war. One post said the owner manages the lot but it isn't valet; another said the hotel lot next door could be used when it was full.

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside

Second floor2 of 22 posts
In a basementyes 0 · no 1 (of 22 posts read)

No post said whether there is a step at the entrance or whether a wheelchair or stroller can get in. A wheelchair anecdote appears only in a post that copied Naver reviews, which we didn't count.

No post said where the toilet is or whether it is separated by gender. Nobody wrote about it, which isn't the same as there being none.

No one mentioned: Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 27 posts we gathered, 5 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Prices keep rising. A November 2024 post paid 18,000 won per mulhoe; posts from June 2025 on say 20,000. A February 2026 list said 18,000, which looks like an old figure copied over. Solo diners used to get the stew free, but by November 2024 that had stopped. Two posts found it pricey, three said it was worth the money.
  • Posts disagree on heat: two found the mulhoe sauce spicy, four said things weren't spicy (two about the sauce, two about the stew). One said it was sweet rather than sour or hot, mild enough for children.
  • The seating has changed. A November 2024 post by a regular said the hall used to have raised floor platforms but is now all tables and chairs. The shoes-off room in later posts is the back room.
  • No post described waiting. Two posts walked straight in but warned there may be a line at lunch or on weekends, and posts visiting around 4 p.m. found it quiet. Nobody wrote how long the wait is at peak lunch — that means we don't know, not that there is none.
  • No post gave directions from a subway station. Several walked over from Gwangalli Beach; one said the bus stop is a bit of a walk. Restaurants with the same name exist in Seomyeon, Nam-gu and Yeonsan-dong, and one post warned that navigation apps show the Nam-gu one first, so search for 181-120 Millak-dong.
  • Thirteen posts by visitors gave the hours as 10:30 to 21:00, but nearly all copied the listing. 'Open every day' is also copied; one post said in its own words that there is no afternoon break. One post quoted an older post giving 11:30 to 22:00 daily; we don't know when that applied, so we didn't count it.
  • Many posts gave the same phone number, 051-757-7991. Whether you can book appears only as 'reservations available' in one post's copied info block, which we didn't count.
  • Two visit posts were vague and read like promotional templates, so we counted only their remarks on cleanliness and space. One post that pasted Naver review tallies and four multi-restaurant lists were not counted as visits.
