Kuchiga

쿠치가 Kuchi is the Japanese word for mouth; the posts do not explain the rest of the name.

Compiled from 22 blog posts read in fullSources →

A Japanese izakaya on Gwanganhaebyeon-ro 277beon-gil, at the end of Gwangalli Beach where it runs into Millak-dong. It opens in the evening and stays open late, serving a sashimi assortment (24,000 won for one), basil soba with beef tataki (25,000 won), a mackerel bar sushi made in limited numbers each day (24,000 won) and motsunabe (27,000–28,000 won) to go with drinks. We read 30 posts from January to October 2026; 22 describe an actual visit. Three were about other places and were set aside, and five only introduced the place or mentioned it in passing.

Rows without a count: 6 of 14 posts.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. A free starter arrives as soon as you sit down. Eleven of the 22 visit posts mention it, usually chawanmushi (steamed egg custard) in a small lidded cup. Three noticed a truffle aroma, one said everyone got their own, and three mentioned shredded cabbage alongside.
  2. There are both counter seats and tables: nine posts say so, and one notes that solo diners and pairs are usually seated at the counter. Two posts saw the private room at the back, which one found already booked on a Saturday. Opinions on size differ: two found it small, one said it goes back further than it looks from outside.
  3. Waiting splits three and three: three posts waited, three walked straight in. Those who got in right away came around the 6 p.m. opening or outside peak season. One Saturday 6:30 p.m. visit saw the line outside grow and was told by staff that tables are limited to two hours when people are waiting. No post says how many minutes anyone waited.
  4. Many come back: six posts say they had been before, including one who orders the mackerel sushi every time and one who stops in on every business trip to the area.
3 more
  1. Writing a receipt review earns an extra dish: three posts got one this way, either two extra pieces of cream cheese tofu or a basil tomato salad.
  2. You can bring wine: one post brought a bottle from Seoul and paid 20,000 won corkage, with chilling included. It is not corkage-free.
  3. Of posts that say who they came with: friends 10, a partner or spouse 6, a larger group such as colleagues 3, alone 1. The solo diner had a single-portion sashimi plate with wine and said they felt completely at ease.

Getting inside

Toilet inside2 of 22 posts
Separate restrooms1 of 22 posts

No post describes the floor or any stairs from experience; only the address says ground floor.

We don't know whether there is a step at the entrance or whether a wheelchair or stroller can get in. Nobody wrote about it, which isn't the same as saying there is no access.

Two posts say the restroom is inside the restaurant, and one that it is split by gender. One post sat at the table right in front of it, noticed the smell, and suggests asking for a seat farther away.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 27 posts we gathered, 5 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Prices have gone up. The sashimi assortment was 23,000 won for one in a March 2026 listing; a May post said the 46,000-won two-person plate had risen by 2,000 won; August and October posts paid 24,000 won for one. Whether it's expensive splits two to two: one post found it pricey for the portion and another spent 120,000 won for three in 40 minutes, while two called it good value for the quality. One post notes the local Dongbaekjeon currency isn't accepted.
  • No post describes getting there by public transport. 'Gwangan Station Exit 3, 15 minutes on foot' and 'five minutes' walk from the beach' appear only in copied info blocks.
  • Twelve posts give opening hours of 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., four of them noting a 5 p.m. start on Saturdays; four give last orders at 1 a.m. Most of this is copied information. Two posts differ: one in May says 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. daily, and one in October says 5 p.m. to midnight with Mondays off. Check before you go.
  • Several posts copy that reservations and remote queueing go through the CatchTable app. One group phoned ahead, arrived late, and found their table held. Three posts list the same phone number, 0507-1310-9592.
