Ijakaya Yasumu

이자카야 야수무 Yasumu is the Japanese word for 'to rest' — bloggers gloss the name as 'rest, take it easy' — and izakaya is a Japanese-style drinking house.

Compiled from 24 blog posts read in fullSources →

An izakaya in a converted two-storey house down an alley behind Gwangalli Beach (Gwanganhaebyeon-ro 255beon-gil 27, Millak-dong). You walk in along a gravel path, and the owner grills yakitori right behind the bar. What people ordered: chicken nanban (23,000 won), the yakitori set of the day (five for 16,900, three for 10,900), sukiyaki (26,000), a platter of beef tartare, raw beef and salmon (49,000), and spicy seafood jjamppong (26,000). Seventeen of the 24 visiting posts mention a milk-thistle pill set at every place. We read 30 posts dated November 2024 to September 2026. Four were about other places and two weren't counted (a compiled info piece, and a duplicate of another post by the same author), which leaves 24 visits.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

What sets it apart

  1. Sit at the bar and the skewers are grilled right in front of you — 8 posts say the owner works the grill behind the counter. Two still say the room stayed free of smoke and smell thanks to a large extractor hood.
  2. Weekend evenings can mean a wait: 4 posts hit a queue and 2 walked straight in. The only post that timed its own wait gave 10 minutes. One saw later arrivals wait over an hour; another got in at opening and watched a line form behind them. One group booked ahead and arrived at opening.
  3. When there's a line, don't plan on lingering: 1 post, a group of six, says they were asked to leave because people were waiting. Several posts repeat the house rule of a 2.5-hour table limit when there's a queue; we didn't count that because it's the shop's own wording.
  4. Chicken nanban is the most-ordered dish — 7 of the 24 visits — and 4 posts say the batter was crisp; one compares it to the best fish and chips they had in England. One post, though, found the sauce too sweet and heavy (an August 2026 holiday visit where they ordered it after being told skewers would take 30 minutes).
6 more
  1. 6 posts call the portions large and 1 calls them small. The large ones were sukiyaki, the tripe hot pot, oden, the sashimi platter and tako-wasabi; the small one was the half-and-half sashimi (37,000 won), better as a second-round snack, that post said.
  2. Saltiness depends on the dish: 2 posts say the sukiyaki turned salty as it reduced (both turned off the burner or added water), while 2 say the yakitori was not salty at all.
  3. Tea instead of water — 5 posts say barley or raisin-tree tea comes free. Some also mention candy handed out at the end.
  4. The room is small — 2 posts say so. One counts two four-tops, a two-top and a four-seat window table downstairs, and suggests booking for groups.
  5. 4 posts call it quiet; many also mention dim, low lighting.
  6. Friends are the most common company — 8 posts. 3 went as groups of six or more, two of them at the upstairs group table.

Getting inside

Second floor4 of 24 posts
In a basementyes 0 · no 2 (of 24 posts read)
Separate restrooms1 of 24 posts

4 posts went upstairs or saw the second floor themselves. One was sent up because the ground floor was full on a Saturday; one group called ahead and had the upstairs group table held for a weekend night. Upstairs there's a six-seat table and a window counter. A January 2026 post thought the upper floor wasn't open yet. One post overheard that three people need two main dishes to get a four-seat table; we didn't count that because it was overheard.

Nobody wrote about a step at the door or getting in with a wheelchair or stroller — we don't know. Two posts mention a gravel path from the alley to the door, and one says the entrance is just wide enough for two people side by side. No post mentions stairs or a lift to the second floor.

No post says from experience whether the toilet is inside or outside. Two copied info blocks say outside with separate men's and women's rooms; we didn't count those. 1 post saw separate men's and women's toilets, and 1 said the toilet was roomy with a high ceiling.

No one mentioned: Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 26 posts we gathered, 2 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Some posts come from the same table: a group of six in late January 2026 produced three, and a group of three in late June 2026 produced two. Different authors, so we counted each, but they describe the same night and dishes. One post discloses sponsorship.
  • Nobody described getting there by subway or bus; '854 m from Gwangan Station exit 1' is copied map data. One post says it's a three-minute walk from the beach in the alley beside Fortana Pizza; another warns the alley entrance is easy to miss.
  • Opening hours shifted over time, and every figure is copied from listings. Three posts from November 2024 to October 2025 say it opens at 6 pm, nine from December 2025 to March 2026 say 5 pm, and seven from May 2026 on say 5:30 pm. Closing is consistently 1 am Sunday to Thursday and 2 am Friday and Saturday, with last order an hour before and Mondays off. One post says 2 am every night.
  • Prices held steady from December 2025 to July 2026: chicken nanban 23,000 won, five-skewer set 16,900, sukiyaki 26,000, draft beer 8,000. Earlier posts gave no prices, so we don't know what it cost when it opened. Two posts gave a full bill: 54,000 won for two (half-and-half sashimi plus two drinks) and 174,900 for six on a second round. 2 posts called the prices reasonable; none called them high.
  • The phone number 0507-1431-1212 is copied in twelve posts, but none says whether bookings go by phone or an app. Two posts booked ahead; one says they asked in advance and got the upstairs group table.
