Dokyo Baetsal

도쿄뱃살 Baetsal is Korean for belly meat — here the fatty tuna belly (toro) the house is known for — so the name reads 'Tokyo Belly'.

Compiled from 22 blog posts read in fullSources →

An aged-sashimi and tuna-belly izakaya on the fourth floor of the Starbucks building on Gwangalli's beach road, with window bar seats facing Gwangan Bridge head-on. It opens at 6 p.m. The dishes visitors ordered most were the seafood ramyeon at 15,000 won (ten posts) and the mixed sashimi for two to three at 49,000 won (nine posts); three ordered the couple's tuna belly at 49,000 won. Ten posts say you order from a QR code on the table. One post says the restaurant used to be on a ground floor in a back alley before moving here. We read 30 posts dated 23 September 2025 to 3 October 2026; we set aside three that were really about the fifth-floor café Nasub or a different barbecue place, did not count three list or promotional pieces, and were left with 24 first-hand visits.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Nine posts say you can reserve. Two explain that CatchTable bookings are only for the 6 p.m. slot and that Saturdays are walk-in only. One found the window bar seats already laid out as reserved; another typed 'please seat us at the window bar' into the request box. Two posts booked by phone.
  2. Three posts waited and two did not. One left a name and number at 6:30 and got a call around 7:10, sooner than the 8 to 8:30 the staff had estimated; another wrote a phone number on a whiteboard and waited in the Starbucks downstairs. On the other side, one walked straight in at about 5:30 on a weekend, and one was told by phone that there was no wait. Several found the window seats already taken right at opening.
  3. Eight posts called the portions generous and two called them small. Both of the 'small' posts had ordered the couple's tuna belly; one said the slices were thin, finished in ten minutes, and advised adding a side. Most of the 'generous' remarks were about the mixed sashimi or the seafood ramyeon.
  4. Ten posts say you order by scanning the table's QR code with your phone; one adds that you pay on the way out.

  1. Five posts were return visits — 'came back after last year', 'went about a year ago', 'my go-to, again and again', 'visited many times over the years'.
  2. Five posts said it was not expensive and none said it was; one called the 15,000-won seafood ramyeon a bargain, another 'great value'. One of the five was sponsored. A party of three said the mixed sashimi, tuna-belly roll, ramyeon and a bottle of soju left them full.

Getting inside

In a basementyes 0 · no 4 (of 22 posts read)
Lift to the floor3 of 22 posts

Three posts say you enter the building and take the lift to the fourth floor; four described going up to it.

No one wrote about a step at the entrance or getting in with a wheelchair or stroller — only that there is a lift. That means we don't know, not that there is a barrier.

One post mentioned a toilet 'by the door, at one side of the shop', without making clear whether it is inside. 'Toilet inside' and 'separate men's and women's toilets' appear only in copied listing blocks, so we did not count them.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 25 posts we gathered, 3 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • No post describes actually arriving by subway or bus. 'Public transport recommended' and '834 m from Gwangan Station exit 3' are copied text.
  • Only one post says it went with friends and one with a girlfriend, so there is no pattern. Several noticed many couples, but that describes other diners.
  • Only one post (August 2026) says the restaurant used to be on a back-alley ground floor and moved here; it doesn't say when. Our earliest post (September 2025) is already at the current address.
  • Opening hours seem to have changed. Posts from September 2025, January 2026 and March 2026 give Tuesday to Sunday 18:00-02:00, closed Mondays; nine posts from June 2026 on give weekdays 18:00-02:00 and weekends 18:00-03:00, and one June post booked and went on a Monday. One August 2026 post still copied 'closed Mondays', and two list 02:00 every night. All of these are copied listings, so check before you go.
  • Prices held steady from September 2025 to October 2026: mixed sashimi 49,000 won, seafood ramyeon 15,000 won. Only one undated list showed lower figures (43,000, 39,000 and 59,000 won for the platter, couple's and business tuna sets). One post gave a full bill: 56,000 won for two, couple's tuna belly plus lemon soju.
  • More than nine posts give the same phone number, 0507-1321-4922. Most say reservations go through CatchTable; two booked by phone, and one found its phone booking missing from the shop's list.
  • Only one post mentions a two-hour limit; no other post brings it up.
  • Three posts repeat that the chef twice won the Gwangalli Eobang Festival raw-fish contest, but it is the restaurant's own blurb, so we don't rely on it; one of those posts was sponsored.
