Western

THE SMOKO

더스모코 Deo Seumoko Smoko is Australian and New Zealand slang for a short smoke or tea break; the posts only say the house began as a pub of the same name in Daeyeon-dong.

Compiled from 25 blog posts read in fullSources →

A Western restaurant with a blue door and a terrace on the corner opposite Millac the Market in Gwangalli. The draw is the ghee butter steak (67,000 won), tenderloin finished in boiling ghee butter, usually ordered alongside scallop cream pasta or sea urchin pasta (29,000 won) or the rolled lasagna (28,000 won). One post paid about 120,000 won for three dishes for two, another about 100,000 won for two. Booking is through a KakaoTalk channel with a 50,000 won deposit (phone 0507-1462-3202). The restaurant moved here from Daeyeon-dong; two posts had visited the old place. We read 30 posts dated 23 February to 1 October 2026; 26 describe an actual visit.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

What sets it apart

  1. You choose whether the steak is finished at your table or in the kitchen; 17 posts describe tableside cooking or being offered it. The server slices the meat in front of you, pours the ghee and salts it; two posts say the butter flies everywhere, and several mention aprons and a splash guard. Two posts say terrace tables are glass, so out there the butter is poured in the kitchen. Both families with small children chose kitchen cooking.
  2. Eleven posts say you can book. You send your name, number, date, time and party size to the KakaoTalk channel and pay a 50,000 won deposit, which is taken off the bill or can be refunded in cash. One post notes Naver and Google booking do not work. Yet four posts walked in without waiting: on a weekday just before the break ended, on a Saturday at 12:30, and on a weekday at 6:30 pm.
  3. Ten posts mention the outdoor terrace. One counted about three tables outside and seven inside; another said the room is small with few tables. One noted the terrace looks onto the Millak parking lot.
  4. Four posts ran into a compulsory drink order — three describe it as one drink per person, one as one per two people. One post had to buy another drink even after getting a free one through the review promotion, and two found the drinks pricey.

Parking

7 posts say you cannot park. None say you can.

Posts saying you cannot7 of 25 posts

Seven posts found no parking of its own. People used the Millak public lot next door (300 won per 10 minutes, 8,000 won a day) or the Millac the Market garage (4,000 won an hour); one paid 5,000 won there. A February 2026 post said the public lot was under construction; August posts say it had opened. One post says parking is not validated.

Where it is

Map showing where THE SMOKO is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside

No post describes the floor from experience; the address says ground floor, and one unrelated post notes a hair salon upstairs in the same building.

Nobody wrote about a step at the entrance or wheelchair or stroller access. That means we don't know, not that it's fine or not.

No post says where the toilet is or whether it is separated by gender.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 27 posts we gathered, 2 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • The restaurant moved to Gwangalli from Daeyeon-dong near Kyungsung and Pukyong universities; three posts mention it, two from people who ate at the old place, which one called dark, like an English basement. The 2021 date is hearsay; every post we read is about the current site.
  • Opening hours changed over time. Of 17 posts listing hours, three from June–July 2026 say 11:00, eleven from late July to September say 10:00, and three from 30 September and 1 October say 10:30; one post says it was 10:00 when she went in August but Naver now shows 10:30. Closing at 21:30, a 15:30–17:00 break and last orders at 14:30 and 20:30 are consistent. Most are copied listings. One post says closed Thursdays, another says no closing day.
  • Steak portions are reported inconsistently: 300 g in one post, 350 g in another, and a regular felt it had shrunk from six pieces while a September post still counted six. The sea urchin pasta was called off-season in late July but two August posts ate it.
  • No post explains how to get there by subway or bus; visitors either drove or walked over from the beach or Millac the Market.
  • Of the 26 visit posts, none discloses sponsorship; eleven say they paid themselves (four only in a hashtag or title) and fifteen say nothing. A handful share the same polished anniversary-and-date framing, but each records different specifics, so we counted them. A BEXCO blog post and an automated listicle were built from other people's photos and listings and were not counted.
