Chowon Bokguk

초원복국 Chowon means grassland or meadow, and bokguk is pufferfish soup.

Compiled from 17 blog posts read in fullSources →

A pufferfish soup house on the second and third floors of a building on Haeundae Beach Road, across from the beach (one post says the ground floor is a parking lot). Eunbok jiri is 16,000 won, kkachibok 23,000 and chambok 30,000; the eunbok B course is 40,000 won a head and the kkachibok C course 50,000. Soup comes in a pot rather than individual bowls—staff ladle out the first serving and leave the pot—and many posts single out the warm bean sprouts lifted from the pot and dressed at the table. It opens at 8 a.m., so many people came for breakfast or a hangover cure. It is not the same restaurant as Chowon Bokguk Daeyeon in Nam-gu. We read 30 posts dated January 16 to October 26, 2026; 18 describe an actual meal. We set aside 7 posts about other restaurants, including the Daeyeon branch and Geumsu Bokguk.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. No post describes queuing. Five say they were seated straight away—at 12:30 on a January weekday, just after 1 p.m. in August, and on a Friday evening. One was sent upstairs because the lower floor was full at 1 p.m. on a weekday, and two said it was busy but tables turned over fast, one adding they nearly had to wait at Monday lunch.
  2. Service splits opinion: one post calls the staff kind, three describe unpleasant encounters—being told 'we're still cleaning' at 8 a.m., stony faces from the parking attendant to the seating host, and, in January 2026, a blood clot in the soup answered by reheating the same pot without an apology. The last two posts say they will not return.
  3. Four posts say the soup is generous with fish—filling enough without rice, or enough for five people to each go back for another ladle. One post found the side dishes small.

Posts saying you can park7 of 17 posts

Seven posts say from experience that you can park. Several mention a ground-floor lot with an attendant out front, and one says the attendant valet-parked their car. One post found parking hard and was directed to a side street or the paid Haeundae-gu Office lot when it was full, while another found the space roomy. Four posts say they came by car.

Getting inside

Second floor6 of 17 posts
Lift to the flooryes 0 · no 1 (of 17 posts read)
Toilet inside1 of 17 posts

The dining rooms start on the second floor; six posts ate there or mention both the second and third floors. One describes the second floor as the main hall and the third as private rooms, and another says the upper floor is mostly group tables where five of them sat comfortably. Two posts mention private rooms. One post's remark that the ground floor is also roomy conflicts with the others.

No one mentions a basement level; posts describe eating on the second and third floors.

No one wrote about steps at the entrance or getting in with a wheelchair or stroller—unknown, not absent. One post notes the only way up to the restaurant is stairs, with no elevator.

One post says from experience that there is a restroom inside on the second floor; no one says whether it is split by gender.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 22 posts we gathered, 5 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Opinions on price differ: one post calls it the priciest pufferfish house in Haeundae, two found the courses good value. Eunbok (16,000 won) and kkachibok (23,000) prices held steady from January to October, but chambok appears at 30,000 won in August–September and 35,000 won for 'live chambok' in January, and we cannot tell whether it is the same dish.
  • Opening hours: all nine visit posts give 8 a.m.–9 p.m. with a 3–5 p.m. break, but every one copied it into an info box; one list post gives a 10 p.m. close. No one mentions last orders. One visitor arriving right at 8 a.m. found staff still cleaning.
  • Several posts copy the phone number 051-743-5291, but none says whether reservations are taken.
  • Only one post speaks to getting there by subway, calling it easy to reach from Jung-dong Station; the '567 m from exit 7' line appears in several info boxes and we did not count it. No one mentions the bus.
  • One post ties the 1992 'Chowon Bokguk incident' to this restaurant, but two others place it at the Chowon Bokguk in Daeyeon-dong, Nam-gu; it is hearsay and we do not settle it. 'Third generation' is the restaurant's own claim. A link in one post mentions a closure for renovation in the second half of 2025, but no post compares before and after.
