Hengnim Pocha
행님포차 부산대점 Haengnim Pocha Busandae-jeom An indoor street-tent bar above a shop by the gate of Pusan National University, where orange canvas walls off each table and the free snack bowl refills itself.
Data as of · Published ·
Haengnim Pocha is an indoor version of a street tent, up on the first floor above a shop by the main gate of Pusan National University. One post dates it to February 2016. Orange tent canvas is strung over each table, so you sit inside your own stall, and the name — roughly "big brother's tent" — is carried up the stairwell in broad Busan dialect telling you to get in here. A cabinet by the door holds the owner's figurine collection, heavy on One Piece; fourteen of the thirty writers stopped in front of it. The food runs to dozens of stews, stir-fries, fried things and griddle dishes, mostly ₩10,000–₩20,000. It opens at six in the evening and closes on Sundays.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

What sets it apart
- The free snack is what people write about here — twenty-eight of the thirty mention it. Three kinds of old-fashioned Korean crisps sit on a counter opposite the kitchen; a bowl arrives at your table first and you go and fill it, as often as you like. Water is self-service too. Four posts use some version of "without having to feel awkward" — one writer's husband, she says, normally hates asking a bar for a refill. Four single out the chocolate-coated one, and one of them filled her bowl with nothing else, three times. One dissenter says it did not taste of chocolate at all. Two posts from 2024 and early 2025 list pickled radish and beans on the counter as well; the later ones mention only the crisps.
- The canvas does the work of walls. Orange tent cloth divides the tables, and twelve writers say it makes an indoor room feel like an outdoor stall. Eight call the result private: one contrasts it with the wide-open bars where you hear every neighbouring conversation, another simply liked that the next section could not see her. This is not the same as quiet — two posts note the cheerful din of a tent bar, one of them saying that was the point. Ordinary open tables exist too, and one writer mentions you can ask for those instead.
- Price is the running theme — eighteen posts call it cheap. One reads the menu and reports that almost nothing tops ₩30,000 and most dishes sit between ₩10,000 and ₩20,000, against the ₩30,000–₩40,000 she expects elsewhere; another makes the same comparison from the other direction. Five say two people ate well for ₩20,000–₩30,000. And the prices barely move: the tripe stew is ₩20,000 in December 2024 and ₩20,000 in June 2026; the chicken-and-tripe pot ₩23,000 in August 2025 and ₩23,000 in February 2026. There is one dissenter — a writer who scored the food five out of five and the room three, and gave the price two. She does not say why.
- Seventeen posts say the portions are large, and they say it by recording their own surprise: ₩20,000 was supposed to buy a small plate and fed two; tent bars are supposed to serve little and this one serves a meal; the small size of the corn dish was still a lot. Adding a noodle refill makes it worse — two writers describe glass noodles that keep rising from the bottom of the pot. Against that, two pairs ordered two mains between them and left food, so one main plus a side reads like the right order for two. Three posts note the house rule: mains from one, sides from two.
- There are two ways to get something free here, and six posts explain them. One is Instagram: tag the bar in a story and you get a shaved ice or an ice cream, put it in your feed and you get a main dish, with a prize draw mentioned too. One writer actually collected — she posted after her stew and was brought the ice. The other is your birthday: show ID and four posts say you get the song plus a side dish or a highball. Separately, three note which government vouchers and payment apps are accepted — one of them specifying that the Busan local-currency card is not — and another was told at the till that a major pay app was not working.
- Six posts talk about the staff, and they name what was done. Chilli sauce brought on request for someone who wanted more heat; a top-up of stock for the army stew; on a night when the cream tap was broken, a server who asked first whether plain draught was all right; a table chosen for being the coolest in the room on a hot day. One writer notes the gap between the bar's tough-guy branding and how the people in it actually behave. You can also order ahead by phone — one writer rang ten minutes out and found the table nearly laid when she arrived.
- Two posts mention trophies and framed newspaper pieces on the wall. One names a customer-satisfaction award given twice a year; the other was surprised a bar had such a thing at all and says there were more beside it. Nobody records who gives the award or when it was won, and we have not verified it — we count only that two people wrote it down. Four describe the place as a long-standing fixture of the university district.

There is no car park. Nine posts say so, and five of them name where to put the car instead — three paid lots nearby. One even copies out the rates: ₩3,000 for the first hour, ₩1,000 per half hour after, ₩15,000 a day. Only two writers actually parked: one simply says she used a public lot, and the other drove and therefore did not drink at all, which she is rueful about. For a bar that runs past midnight, leaving the car at home is the sensible reading.

It is up one flight. Twenty-six of the thirty say so, and fourteen describe the climb in their own words — the stairwell is painted with a greeting and a joke about the days of the week, so the walk up is part of the visit; one writer says it took good legs. Not one post mentions a lift, and nobody counts the steps. The ground floor is a different business.
Not one post says whether a wheelchair or a pushchair can get in. All thirty writers went up the stairs, and nobody reports seeing a lift, or reports that there is none. No one mentions a threshold or a ramp either. The one flight of stairs is certain; if that matters, ring and ask before you go.
One writer describes the toilet from having used it, and says the men's and women's are separate. Two other posts carry the same fact, but in both it sits inside a block of facility bullets lifted from the shop's online listing — reservations, groups, wi-fi, separate toilets — so we have not counted them. Whether it is inside the bar or out in the building, and how many cubicles there are, nobody says.
No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know
- The closing time changed. Posts written between December 2024 and February 2026 say five or six in the morning — six in four of them, five in eleven, with a half-past-five last order in three. All seven posts written from June 2026 onwards say three, with last orders at half past two. This is not a disagreement between writers but a clean break by date: the last five-o'clock post is from May 2026, the first three-o'clock one from 2 June. Three is presumably current, but no post records the shop announcing a change, so we have not confirmed it. If you are going late, ring first. On opening time all twenty-four agree: six in the evening.
- One post disagrees about the closing day. Twenty-one say Sundays. The oldest post we read, from 13 December 2024, says there is no closing day at all. Every post in the nineteen months since says Sunday, so the odd one out looks like a mistake — but it may simply be that the shop did not close then, so we have left it as written rather than correcting it.
- People walk here — twelve posts give the walk. It is five to fifteen minutes from the subway, and the estimates do not agree: two give 417 metres from exit 1, one seven minutes from exit 3, one five to ten from exit 3, one ten minutes from exit 1, one ten to fifteen. Nobody says which exit is actually nearer. On the landmark they do agree: out of the university's main gate, into the soup-restaurant lane beside the Olive Young, three hundred metres, and it is the first floor above a shop whose sign several of them name. One self-described bad navigator says the sign is visible enough that she found it anyway.
- Nobody reports queueing. Two posts come close: one found the room full on a weekday evening and watched a party of twenty arrive behind her; another saw groups with bookings coming in as she left. Against that, one writer went early and had a quiet room, and one arrived at opening to find people already eating. It reads as a question of timing, but no post gives a number of minutes. For a group, booking looks like the safe move: nine posts remark on how well the place would suit a department or society dinner.
- One post declares a sponsorship and one declares that she paid; the other twenty-eight say nothing. The declared one says at the end that it was a comped visit — and it is also one of the posts that writes out four dishes with their prices. Nor are the posts bunched: they spread evenly across nineteen months, one or two a month, from December 2024 to July 2026. We have not, however, counted the five posts that say the bar does takeaway and delivery — in all five the line sits in a block of facility bullets copied from the shop's listing, and not one writer records ordering either.
- The posts contradict each other about bringing your own. A January 2026 post copies a notice in the room saying no outside food, soft drinks or alcohol at all. An October 2025 post says corkage is allowed and is delighted about it; a June 2026 one says corkage is charged. All three look like copied notices rather than anything the writer tested, and nobody records carrying a bottle in. Because the dates interleave, we cannot tell whether the rule changed or someone wrote it down wrong. Ring and ask. For what it is worth, one post reports a sign at the door saying ID is now always checked, after a near-miss with under-age customers.
- There was a small fish tank. Two posts describe one by the window with fish moving in it — and both are from December 2024. In the nineteen months since, twenty-eight writers have photographed the room in detail without mentioning it, so we do not know whether it is still there. The figurines in the same corner keep appearing.
