Ilgwang Daebokjip

일광대복집 Ilgwang is the seaside town it stands in; daebokjip reads as 'big pufferfish house' (bok is pufferfish).

Compiled from 18 blog posts read in fullSources →

Ilgwang Daebokjip is a pufferfish restaurant at 3 Ihwa-ro, Ilgwang-eup, Gijang, right by Ilgwang station on the Donghae line. You order soup by choosing a fish and a broth (clear jiri, spicy maeuntang or doenjang); posts list chambok at 18,000 won, milbok at 20,000 and kkachibok at 22,000. Fried pufferfish (small, 25,000 won) and sweet-and-sour puffer are only served at set hours, and the upstairs floor is reserved for a 70,000-won course. It opens at 8 a.m., and many writers went for breakfast or a hangover cure. We read 30 posts dated 8 February to 27 October 2026; 20 of them describe an actual meal.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Seven posts say the place is large and three mention private rooms; one notes the whole building is the restaurant. Two point out the open kitchen and two call it clean. Even so, writers keep noting how full it was at weekend lunch and early in the morning.
  2. Waiting depends on the hour. One writer walked straight in at 10:10 on a Saturday morning; another got a table at 12:40 in February just before a queue formed, and photographed the sign-up sheet. A third notes a waiting room by the entrance. No one recorded how many minutes a lunchtime wait takes.
  3. Seven posts describe family meals. Two mention high chairs; one says staff brought seaweed for the baby, another that they set out an extra bowl and spoon so a child could share with a sibling. Two posts were with friends and two were groups of six.
  4. Seven or eight side dishes come out, and dried baby-hairtail stew and sea-squirt jeotgal are the most praised. Two posts asked for refills, one noting staff did so without the least reluctance. One writer bought a 10,000-won tub of the jeotgal to take home; another said the sides arrived after the soup.
3 more
  1. The fried puffer comes bone-in, tail and body, like fried chicken. Two posts call the batter crisp and three describe the flesh (in soup or fried) as thick; one found the batter seasoning quite salty.
  2. Four posts say it is not cheap; one calls the prices reasonable. One party of six paid 172,000 won for six kkachibok soups and a large sweet-and-sour puffer. Prices did not change between February and October.
  3. One writer said no spot could be better for public transport, as it sits right outside Ilgwang station; several others copied the note that it is near exit 1.

Parking

10 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

Posts saying you can park10 of 18 posts

Parking is the most-repeated point. Ten of the 20 meal posts mention it, and seven say the lot in front is big; one calls it cramped. A February writer was waved in by a parking attendant, while her companions used the Ilgwang station car park and had the barrier released by giving their plate number at the till.

Getting inside

Second floor2 of 18 posts
In a basementyes 0 · no 1 (of 18 posts read)
Step-free access1 of 18 posts

The upstairs floor is for course diners. Two posts say they were seated on the ground floor with the course room above, and one adds that the upstairs opens when downstairs is full. The upstairs rules (no same-day lunch booking, a 3:00-5:30 p.m. break, last order 7:30 p.m.) were copied from a notice. One post confirms the dining room is at ground level, not a basement.

No one says whether there is a step or stairs at the entrance. One family took a stroller in and was seated inside. Another post claims the room is designed for wheelchairs, but not from experience, so we did not count it.

No post mentions where the toilets are or whether they are separate; that means unknown, not absent.

No one mentioned: Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 27 posts we gathered, 9 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

2026-08-052 posts in one day

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Eleven meal posts give hours: ten say 8:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m., nine say closed Mondays, six give last order at 8:15 p.m., mostly copied from listings. One August post alone says open daily until 9:15 p.m., closed only on holiday days. Several posts note that fried dishes and bulgogi are not served early in the morning or at peak times.
  • One post booked a ground-floor table (5:30 p.m.). Many posts give the same phone number, 051-721-1561; the upstairs course requires advance booking, according to copied notices.
  • Some claims are hearsay and were not counted: three posts credit an MBC TV appearance, one says KBS; one heard the restaurant moved here around 2009 while another says it has been in the same spot for over 30 years. Nine info-only or listicle posts were not counted.
