Soup and riceKorean

Bonjeon Dwaeji Gukbap

본전돼지국밥 Bonjeon is the Korean word for one's principal or original stake, and dwaeji gukbap is Busan's pork soup with rice; several posts call the house 'Wonjo' (the original) Bonjeon.

Compiled from 19 blog posts read in fullSources →

A pork-soup house on the gukbap strip in Choryang, right beside Busan Station. Most posts describe a clear broth rather than the heavy milky kind; pork soup and the mixed pork-and-offal soup are 11,000 won and the boiled-pork set is 14,000 won (menu boards and receipts). Kimchi and seasoned chives come as standard, with salted shrimp and chili paste on the table. We read 30 posts from 23 September to 19 October 2026: 3 were about other places and were set aside, 8 were multi-restaurant lists we did not count, and 19 record an actual meal. None discloses sponsorship; 8 say they paid themselves.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Expect a line. Of 16 posts that discuss waiting, 13 waited and only 2 walked straight in. Recorded waits: 10-15, 20-30, 25, 30, 30, 30-40, 40 and over 40 minutes - 10-15 and 25 minutes at 10:30 on public holidays, 30 minutes at 11:00, 40 minutes on a weekend. Two posts note there is no app waitlist, so you queue in person at the door; several say the line moves faster than it looks.
  2. The most consistent point: 10 posts say there is no porky smell, and none says there is. One writer had read reviews mentioning a smell and went in worried, but noticed none.
  3. This is a walk-from-the-train place: 14 posts came on foot from Busan Station, one giving about three minutes from exit 6 and another directing you out exit 5 and between the Gyowon and Gwangjang buildings.
  4. Many diners arrive with suitcases. Two posts left luggage at the front or to one side of the shop before going in.

  1. Nine posts mention walls covered in celebrity autographs and photos. The 'since 1961', 'third generation' and 'no branches' claims come from the shop's own signage, so we pass them on without counting them as verified.

Parking

1 posts say you cannot park. None say you can.

Posts saying you cannot1 of 19 posts

Don't count on parking. One post saw a sign saying there is no lot and the shop is not responsible for tickets, and another found parking difficult near the station; the rest, including nearby paid-lot rates, is copied information. No post arrived by car.

Where it is

Map showing where Bonjeon Dwaeji Gukbap is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

From the station

This is a walk-from-the-train place: 14 posts came on foot from Busan Station, one giving about three minutes from exit 6 and another directing you out exit 5 and between the Gyowon and Gwangjang buildings.

Getting inside

No post says which floor the dining room is on or whether there are stairs. That means nobody wrote it down, not that there are none.

We don't know whether the entrance has a step or takes a wheelchair. One post says pet strollers are allowed in, but none describes the doorway.

No post mentions the toilet - whether it is inside or separated by gender. We don't know.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 27 posts we gathered, 8 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

2026-10-193 posts in one day
2026-09-232 posts in one day

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Leans small: 4 posts call it cramped (one counts about 11 tables plus a few more past the kitchen), while 1 post found plenty of seats and roomy tables. The note that solo diners may share a table comes from posted signage.
  • Portions split 5 to 1: five posts found the bowl generously filled with meat, one felt it was small for 11,000 won and the meat a bit dry.
  • Opening hours appear in 13 posts, all in copied info blocks: 12 give 08:40-21:00 daily, one gives 08:30, and nine list last order at 20:30. Only one post says there is no closing day.
  • There appears to be no reservation or app waitlist; two posts say you simply queue. The phone number 051-441-2946 is copied in many posts, and one writer phoned ahead to ask about bringing a dog.
  • Only one post covers dogs: by phone the shop said a dog is fine inside a bag, kennel or pet stroller but must stay in it, and a stroller may mean a longer wait for a suitable table.
  • Prices agree across October 2026 menu photos and receipts (soups 11,000, boiled-pork set 14,000, platters 30,000-50,000 won). One post found it fair, one felt the portion small for the price. A list post's 9,000-10,000 won figure was not counted.
  • Company varies: 4 posts with a spouse or partner, 2 with family, 2 with friends (one a group of five seated at one table), and 1 alone.
