Cheonggiwa Town Mapo

청기와타운 마포점 Cheonggiwa means blue roof tiles; writers describe the place as a Korean BBQ house styled after a Los Angeles Koreatown galbi restaurant.

Compiled from 27 blog posts read in fullSources →

Cheonggiwa Town's Mapo branch is a beef-galbi house on Tojeong-ro 296 in Yonggang-dong, on the main road a short walk from Mapo Station exit 1. The signature Suwon wanggalbi is 31,000 won per 200g portion, with a two-portion minimum on the first order, so a pair starts at 62,000 won. Staff grill everything over charcoal, and 24 posts added the 9,000-won tojang stew. On weekdays from 11:30 to 15:00 there is a two-person lunch set; two posts list the Suwon galbi set at 31,000 won. We read 30 posts dated 15 May to 15 October 2026: 27 are visits, 2 only list or describe the place, and 1 was set aside because it was about the Gangnam branch.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. All 27 visit posts say staff did the grilling. Several mention the server cutting the meat off the long bone and grilling it separately, and two describe the grate being raised away from the coals once the meat is done. One writer was told the charcoal takes 5-10 minutes to heat and asked for it early while waiting for a late companion.
  2. Three posts mention minimums: one says the first order must be two portions, after which you can add single portions, and two say the weekday lunch set needs at least two people. No post describes eating there alone.
  3. Fifteen posts call the room spacious and ten mention private rooms at the back. One notes the window side is mostly four-seat tables and that there is an eight-person group table; several say that after booking they found side dishes already laid out at a window table. One writer found it fairly noisy when full.
  4. Nineteen posts mention the wine displayed and sold at the entrance, priced from around 10,000 to 100,000 won according to one writer. Three posts mention beer, including draught.

  1. Four posts describe getting there: two walked from Mapo Station in 7 and 8 minutes, and two came by bus, one saying the stop is a minute or two away. One post copied a wrong address (Mapo-daero 52, 2-3 minutes from exit 3); ignore it.

Parking

7 posts say you cannot park. None say you can.

Posts saying you cannot7 of 27 posts

Seven posts say the restaurant has no parking of its own. Many point to the Yonggang on-street public lot (250 won per 5 minutes) and the Mapo Yusuji public lot; one couple parked on the street lot right in front on a weekend and paid nothing. Four posts mention the public lots without saying whether the restaurant itself has parking.

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

From the station

Four posts describe getting there: two walked from Mapo Station in 7 and 8 minutes, and two came by bus, one saying the stop is a minute or two away. One post copied a wrong address (Mapo-daero 52, 2-3 minutes from exit 3); ignore it.

Getting inside

Toilet insideyes 0 · no 2 (of 27 posts read)
Separate restrooms1 of 27 posts

No post describes the floor from experience; '1st floor' appears only in copied addresses. Nobody mentions a basement or upstairs seating, which means we don't know, not that there is none.

Nobody mentions a step at the entrance, stairs, or entering with a wheelchair or stroller. Two posts describe visits with children, but neither mentions a stroller.

Two posts say the toilets are outside, in the next building, reached with a door code. One says they are separated by gender. Nobody mentions an accessible toilet.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 29 posts we gathered, 2 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Many posts repeat that corkage is free, but mostly as copied store information, so we did not count it; one copied block even says corkage is allowed for a fee. Two posts actually describe outside wine: a colleague who brought two bottles, and customers seen waiting with bottles in hand.
  • Waiting is rarely mentioned. One couple with a 7:30 pm booking on 12 June found every table full and a long line outside; another post says evenings require a wait but they walked straight in with a reservation. Six posts booked through Naver or CatchTable. One mentions chairs outside for those waiting. Daytime visitors describe a quiet room.
  • Most posts give opening hours as 11:30-22:00 daily with last orders at 21:15, nearly always copied from Naver. The 15:00-17:00 break is reported differently: weekdays Monday-Friday in seven posts, Monday-Thursday in two, Monday-Saturday in one, and with no days given in several. Check before going on a Friday or weekend afternoon.
  • Two posts call it on the pricey side and one calls it reasonable. One receipt for two: two portions of Suwon galbi, tojang stew, two bottles of soju and a bowl of rice came to 84,000 won. Radish fried rice is listed at 13,000 won in three posts and 15,000 won in one, which matches the Toowoomba version and may be a mix-up.
  • Thirteen posts give the phone number 02-715-1474; one gives 0507-1325-3485. Every reservation described was made through Naver or CatchTable; nobody mentions booking by phone.
  • Eleven of the visit posts carry the same set of seven Korean search keywords in the same order. Only three of them disclose sponsorship, and one other post says the writer was selected for a review program. We left the rest as undisclosed, but they may be commissioned.
