Korean

Palpal Agu Yeouido

팔팔아구 여의도점 Palpal reads as the number 88 — two posts say the brand goes back to 1988 — and is also the Korean word for lively and sprightly; agu is the everyday name for anglerfish.

Compiled from 25 blog posts read in fullSources →

An anglerfish-braise restaurant tucked inside the ground floor of the Baeksang Building near Exit 5 of Yeouido Station. It opened in spring 2026. You order the braise (small 46,000 won, medium 64,000 won) by heat level and cut, and at lunch there is a set of braise plus clear or spicy soup for 19,000 won a head, two minimum. The ground floor is a dining hall and the upper floor is private rooms, so many posts went for work dinners or family meals. We read 30 posts from 17 April to 12 October 2026; 26 describe a visit. Two were about other restaurants (the Paju branch and a Chinese place nearby) and two were listings only.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

What sets it apart

  1. Portions are the most consistent theme: 13 posts call them generous and none call them small. One post says a small braise could feed three; a table of three who had a medium wrote they would have been in trouble with a small. Lunch-set diners note the soup comes in a full-size bowl.
  2. There are private rooms: 12 posts saw or used one, and one more was unsure. One post describes rooms from four seats up to eight-plus; another counts five rooms upstairs plus a large group room off the ground-floor hall. One table that booked ahead was shown to an upstairs room and ate in quiet.
  3. Eight posts booked ahead, one of them the same day through Naver. Several say the table was already laid with side dishes when they arrived; one was too late to get a room.
  4. Side dishes are refilled: 5 posts got more, one of them three extra helpings of japchae. One post thought the complimentary acorn-jelly soup costs extra to refill.
4 more
  1. Three posts mention complimentary tea, such as plum tea, set out at the entrance; one says it is there for people waiting.
  2. Ordering is by tabletop kiosk, according to 4 posts. One early post had to ask staff for the potato noodles because they were not on the kiosk.
  3. There is a receipt-review promotion: 3 posts wrote a review in exchange for fried rice, a highball or a draft beer. One warns there are photo and hashtag conditions not shown on the notice. Another got fried rice through a Naver booking coupon.
  4. Three posts say there was no fishy smell; none say there was.

Getting inside

Second floor9 of 25 posts

There is an upper floor: 9 posts describe a ground-floor hall with private rooms upstairs, reached by a staircase in the middle of the room or just right of the entrance. No post mentions a lift.

It is on the ground floor, not a basement: 6 posts describe walking into the Baeksang Building and finding it at the far right end of the ground-floor arcade. One warns it is easy to miss.

No one wrote about a step at the door or getting in with a wheelchair or pram; 'wheelchair accessible' appears only in copied listing text. The private rooms upstairs are reached by stairs.

Only one post mentions the toilets, saying they are in the building, which we read as outside the restaurant. Separate men's and women's toilets appear only in copied listing text.

No one mentioned: Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 27 posts we gathered, 2 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Waiting is mixed: 2 posts hit a queue (a regular who comes every few months, and a Friday dinner), while 3 walked straight in — a weekend lunch, a same-day booking and a weekday visit around 12:40. Talk of weekday lunch queues appears only as hearsay, so we did not count it. No post gives a wait in minutes. One post saw waiting seats outside; one says meals are capped at two hours when people are waiting.
  • Two posts describe walking from the station — out of Exit 5 and into the Baeksang Building, and one glad it was close on a hot day. The '314 m from Exit 5' figure is copied from the listing. No post came by bus.
  • All opening hours are copied from listings. Ten posts agree on weekdays 11:00–21:50 with a 15:00–16:30 break. Weekend opening is split between 12:00 (six July–August posts and one in October) and 11:45 (four September posts), so we can't say which is current. An April 2026 post said closed on Sundays, but every post from July on says it opens on weekends.
  • Prices barely vary: the small braise was 46,000 won in four posts and 45,000 in one, and the 19,000-won lunch set is the same everywhere. Two posts found things pricey — 6,000-won soju and beer, and the bean-sprout add-on. No one gave the Yeouido set prices. A meal runs 19,000 won a head at lunch, or a little over 50,000 won for two at dinner with a small braise, rice and fried rice.
  • Eight posts give the phone number as 0507-1309-4228; one April post gives 02-784-4228. Some posts copy that bookings are taken through Naver and Catchtable.
  • Some posts look like commissioned pieces: four carry an identical hashtag line, and only one discloses sponsorship. Seven say they paid themselves. Claims such as '35 years of tradition' or fish from Mokpo are the restaurant's own marketing, repeated by bloggers, and we did not rely on them.
