WOOMIJIP
우미집 Umijip The house writes its name 牛尾集 on its menus and Instagram: 牛尾 is 'ox tail' and jip is 'house', fitting an oxtail specialist (the registered characters 牛味集 read 'ox flavor').

Umijip is a Korean restaurant in a converted house down an alley at Seongmisan-ro 153-9, Yeonnam-dong, serving braised oxtail and oxtail soup. We read 30 posts from October 2024 to September 2026; 19 of them describe an actual meal. The most-ordered dish is the red-sauced braised oxtail (62,000 won for a medium), eaten in twelve posts; oxtail soup (28,000 won) and beef-shank suyuk (25,000 won) were each ordered in seven. Several posts say a bowl of broth comes with the braise and that staff suggest mixing garlic fried rice (8,500 won) into the leftover sauce. Seven posts went with friends, three with family, two with a spouse.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.
What sets it apart
- Price is the most repeated point: of ten posts that discussed it, seven called the place expensive, though most added that the food and the room justified it.
- Portions run small: five of the six posts that mentioned quantity said so. One group of four ordered a large braise plus one soup and had to add the beef shank; another noted the bones take up much of the plate. One post alone found the braise generous.
- Four posts called the red braise spicy and one found it milder than expected; one warned that heat-averse diners may struggle. A soy-braised version exists for those avoiding chili.
- Five posts booked ahead (via Naver or CatchTable); one of them noted it was calmer than expected even on a weekend.
4 more
- Inside the same gate, to the right, is an annex called Taeimjeon. Three posts described room-style seating; one booked the annex and was told only traditional liquor is served there, no beer or soju. An October 2024 post guessed the annex was not in use then.
- Four posts noticed signed autographs on the walls, including actors Han Suk-kyu and Park Hae-il and NCT's Haechan; one visitor came specifically to order what Haechan ate on a video.
- Four posts got refills of side dishes or broth; one was asked to say if broth ran short, another was offered a choice of clear or richer stock.
- Five posts called the staff kind — explaining how to eat each dish, checking in during the meal, and in one case showing a fan around the annex.

Parking

Assume no parking. Two posts wrote from experience that there is none, and one driver used a nearby public lot. The many other 'no parking' lines are copied from the listing; no post said parking was available.

Where it is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside
| Step at the entrance | 1 of 19 posts |
|---|---|
| Toilet inside | 1 of 19 posts |
No visit post said which floor the seating is on; a meal-kit pickup post only described a tidy two-storey building.
Only one post described the entrance: past the gate and along a path, then up a few steps to the door. No post mentioned entering with a wheelchair or stroller — not that it is impossible, just that nobody wrote about it.
One post said the toilet is inside the restaurant; three called it clean, but none said whether it is separated by gender.
No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 29 posts we gathered, 10 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
| 2026-07-31 | 2 posts in one day |
|---|---|
| 2025-03-17 | 2 posts in one day |
| 2025-01-07 | 2 posts in one day |
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- Ordering changed: a visitor in February 2025 remembered a thick, book-like menu, while four posts from June 2025 on ordered by QR code at the table.
- Side dishes and drinks went up during 2025: potato pancake from 16,000 to 18,000 won, kimchi pancake from 16,000 to 17,000, draft beer from 4,500 to 5,000. Oxtail soup (28,000), medium braise (62,000) and beef shank (25,000) held steady throughout. One compiled post listed the soup at 20,000-21,000 won, which contradicts receipts, so we ignored it.
- Opening hours vary by post. Ten visit posts listed them, nearly all copied from the listing. Most agree on 11:30 to 22:00 (or 22:30) Monday to Saturday, but Tuesday and Wednesday keep shifting: closed Tuesdays in October 2024, closed Wednesdays in June 2025, no days off but Tuesday lunch only and Wednesday dinner only in August 2025, and Tuesday either lunch-only or from 17:00 in 2026 posts. Check ahead for those two days.
- One post described the walk itself — about ten minutes from Hongik University Station toward Yeonnam-dong. The '812 m from Exit 3' lines elsewhere are copied; no post came by bus.
- No post reported queuing. One found it calm even on a weekend; another simply arrived before opening. Since five posts had booked, we cannot say how long a walk-in might wait.
- Six posts gave the phone number 0507-1325-1947. Bookings described in posts were made through Naver or CatchTable; none mentioned reserving by phone.
- We did not count posts that read as promotion: two word-for-word identical write-ups (July 2026), two same-day template introductions (January 2025), a supplier's showcase from a makgeolli brand, and two meal-kit pickup posts including one sponsored. Among the visit posts, one disclosed sponsorship and one was an invitation.
