Jongno Daeseong Sikdang Yeonnam-jeom

종로대성식당 연남점 Jongno is the old downtown district of Seoul where the original Daeseong Sikdang ('sikdang' means restaurant) opened in 1984; this is its Yeonnam-dong branch.

Compiled from 8 blog posts read in fullSources →

A nakgopsae house — octopus, beef intestine and shrimp stew — in a basement unit on a Yeonnam-dong side street. All eight posts that visited ordered the brisket version and cooked it at the table; three posts from Sept–Oct 2026 agree the small size is 39,000 won. Six finished with extra noodles and fried rice with flying-fish roe. Many mention the 'SINCE 1984' sign, oil-drum tables and 90s music; the claim that it is the first branch of a 1984 Jongno original is copied from the shop's own blurb. We read 10 posts from 24 July to 16 October 2026, 8 of them from people who went.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Seven visiting posts say a small plate of tofu with kimchi and a cup of makgeolli arrive free when you sit down. In July 2026 the makgeolli was purple ube; in Sept–Oct it was injeolmi (roasted soybean). One post heard that the flavour changes monthly.
  2. Five posts found the stew generous — one ordered the small for two and called it a lot. Rice and noodles are not included and are ordered separately, one post noted.
  3. Three posts describe outdoor street-stall-style seating in front. Inside, one post saw an open kitchen and one found the room much larger than expected.
  4. Both posts that talked about heat found it milder than expected; one said the shop rates the basic level as about Shin Ramyun-hot.

  1. Three posts mention a review event that gives a mixed add-on of octopus, intestine, shrimp and brisket. Two say extra side dishes come from a self-serve bar.

One post says first-hand there is no parking; two more copy 'no parking' in info boxes. The nearby public lot names and fees come from the shop's own listing.

Getting inside

In a basement1 of 8 posts
Step at the entrance1 of 8 posts

The registered address is basement level. One post walked down stairs to get in; another said the ground slopes so the entrance felt almost at street level.

No one wrote about getting in with a wheelchair or stroller. One post mentions stairs down; none mentions a lift or ramp.

No post described the toilet first-hand. One post's info box says it is inside, but it reads as copied and we did not count it. We don't know whether it is separated by gender.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 10 posts we gathered, 2 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Only one post waited: about 25 minutes at 7 pm after writing a name on the waiting list, with too few chairs outside. One post booked ahead. The other six did not mention waiting.
  • Four posts walked from Hongik Univ. Station (exit 3). None timed the walk; figures like '7 minutes' or '445 m' are copied from listings. No one came by bus.
  • Only one post says who they went with (friends). Several titles say 'date', but the posts don't say so, so we didn't count them. No one went with children.
  • Five posts list opening hours, all in copied info boxes. All say 11:30 opening; closing is 23:00 in three, 22:00 in one and 22:30 (last order 21:40) in one. Only one lists a 15:00–17:00 break. No visiting post gives a closing day.
  • Four posts give prices. Three agree the small brisket nakgopsae is 39,000 won; one July post says 54,000 won, which matches the live-octopus version and is probably mislabelled. The cheese egg dish is 6,000 won in September and 7,000 won in October. No one totals a meal for two. Group and wedding-invite discount coupons are copied from the booking page.
  • Five posts list the phone number 0507-1460-2459. Booking through Naver is mentioned, and one post reserved ahead.
  • Five posts from 11–15 September 2026 cover the same points in the same order (1984 origin, 90s music, welcome tofu-kimchi and makgeolli, review-event add-on, room for 50). None discloses sponsorship; one shows a receipt. One October post reads as machine-written, and we treated it with caution.
