Hyangmi

향미 Hyangmi, written 鄕味 in Chinese characters in one post, means 'the taste of home' — a hometown flavor.

Compiled from 13 blog posts read in fullSources →

A Chinese restaurant at 193 Seongmisan-ro in Yeonnam-dong, written up as a place for sharing plates — kkanpung eggplant, dumplings, yuringi chicken, stir-fried clams, beef noodle soup — with Chinese beer. Only one post gave prices (August 2026): 25,000 won for the clams or the Chongqing squid, 15,500 for shredded potato, 7,500 for xiaolongbao, and about 90,000 won for that party's whole bill. We read 29 posts dated March 10 to October 9, 2026. Fourteen were not about this place at all — 'hyangmi' is also the Korean word for flavor notes in coffee — three were roundup lists, and twelve describe actually eating here.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

What sets it apart

  1. Five posts call the frying crisp — the shrimp toast, the kkanpung eggplant, the sweet-and-sour pork (twice) and the yuringi. Seven of the twelve visits ordered the eggplant; one table added yuringi after deciding this must be a place that does fried food well. Another noted the eggplant was still good even once the batter softened.
  2. Seven of the visits were with friends, the most common company; two were with family (a weekend outing, a dinner with a daughter), one with a husband, and one a working lunch for six. Three men ordered two dishes and then two more kinds of dumplings because they were still hungry; two women got through five plates.
  3. Five posts paired the food with beer — Snow (7,000 won in August 2026), Harbin in two posts, Tsingtao, and one 5 p.m. stop for just a plate of eggplant and a beer, where the writer liked that even the glass came chilled.

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside

No post describes which floor the dining room is on; only the address says ground floor.

No one mentioned a step or stairs at the entrance, or getting in with a wheelchair or stroller. That means we do not know, not that there is no barrier.

No one said whether the restroom is inside or whether it is separated by gender.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 16 posts we gathered, 3 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Opinions on the dumplings split. Three posts found them juicy (shrimp dumplings, guotie, xiaolongbao); one found both the fried dumplings and the xiaolongbao thick-skinned and disappointing, and another called the xiaolongbao merely average. One June 2026 writer went back despite a poor earlier memory and was let down again; an August writer noted that reviews of this place are sharply divided.
  • Six posts list opening hours, all copied rather than observed. All six agree on an 11:30 opening. Closing time is given as either 22:00 or 21:40; the two posts that split by day say weekdays until 22:00 (last order 21:30) and weekends until 21:40 (last order 21:10). Four list a 15:00–17:00 break and five say it is closed on Tuesdays. Check before going.
  • Only one post (August 2026) gave prices, so we do not know the rest of the menu's prices or what a meal per person runs. One post called the dish prices not heavy.
  • Two posts give two different phone numbers (02-333-2943 and 010-5835-6851). No one said whether reservations are taken.
  • No one wrote about waiting in line. One August 2026 weekend visit arriving at the 11:30 opening found one table already seated but no queue; a July post went in around 5 p.m. and noticed it filling up by 6. We do not know about waits at peak dinner or weekend hours.
  • No visit describes the walk from a station or bus stop. One roundup list copied the listing's directions: Hongik University Station exit 3, right in front of Dongjin Market.
