Yeokjeon Hoegwan

역전회관 Yeokjeon hoegwan means 'the hall in front of the station' — posts say it began as a small eatery in front of Yongsan Station before moving to Mapo.

Compiled from 19 blog posts read in fullSources →

Yeokjeon Hoegwan fills a four-storey building at Tojeong-ro 37-gil 47, between Mapo and Gongdeok stations. Its signature is bassak bulgogi — thin beef grilled dry with no broth and served on a wide plate. Of the 19 posts by people who actually went, 10 ordered the bassak bulgogi set (21,000 won) and 6 the stir-fried octopus set (21,000 won). They range from a solo diner having a single set to families and office groups ordering the big spreads (135,000 won, or 189,000 won after a discount). We read 30 posts dated August 2025 to October 2026. Nineteen were real visits; the other 11 were multi-restaurant lists, TV recaps or copied listings, and we did not count them.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. A free tea comes out as you finish. Six posts mention it, two by name (purple sweet-potato tea), and one said it looks like omija but tastes of sweet potato.
  2. Soup and sides get topped up. Four posts say so: a solo diner was offered more soup before asking, and others had soup, blood-sausage soup or side dishes refilled 'again and again'.
  3. It's roomy. Seven posts call the place spacious, and three sat in or saw private rooms — one office group of more than ten was shown to one. Four posts sat on the ground floor and four ate upstairs or saw seating there.
  4. The bulgogi marinade leans sweet; eight posts say so, often as 'sweet and salty'. On saltiness it's 5 yes versus 2 who found it mild.

  1. Eight posts saw it for themselves: walls of celebrity autographs by the stairs, a looping video of Tom Cruise's party at the door, or a 'celebrity sat here' plaque on their table. The Tom Cruise visit itself is the house's own claim, so we did not count it.

Nobody mentions basement seating. Four posts sat on the ground floor. The registered address lists a basement level, but we don't know what's down there.

One post came with a stroller. It reports two low steps at the entrance and two portable ramps beside it (they just lifted the stroller), plus an elevator to all four floors and wide aisles inside. No other post mentions steps or wheelchair access.

The toilets are inside; two posts say so, one adding there is one on every floor but too few stalls for the crowd. Separate men's and women's rooms appear only in copied facility lists — nobody who went confirms it.

No one mentioned: Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 30 posts we gathered, 11 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

2026-10-102 posts in one day
2026-10-072 posts in one day

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Waits vary. Three posts walked straight in (Sunday at 12:30, a weekday lunch, a group of six); one found a big queue already formed before the 5 p.m. reopening. Three booked ahead (Naver, phone two weeks out, CatchTable), and one arrived during the break and waited to be first in for dinner.
  • Eight posts found the staff kind — fussing over a baby, clearing a chair for a stroller. One office-dinner post disagreed, saying the staff were not friendly, perhaps because it was busy.
  • Value splits 2–2: two posts found it pricey, two thought the sets were good value. A meal per head centres on the 21,000-won set, and one post budgets 20,000–25,000 won a person. The à la carte bulgogi is given as both 42,000 and 38,000 won, so we can't confirm it.
  • Two posts describe walking there: about three minutes from Gongdeok Station exit 1 through the Gyeongui Line Forest Park, or about six minutes from Mapo Station exit 2. Nobody mentions taking a bus.
  • Opening hours come only from copied listings, which mostly agree: weekdays 11:00–22:00 with a 15:00–17:00 break, weekends 11:00–21:30 with a 15:00–16:30 break. Closing days conflict — two say open every day, two say closed Mondays, and one post points out the mismatch. Three copied notes say weekend and holiday lunch guests must leave by 14:50. Check before you go.
  • Phone: eight posts give 0507-1392-0248 and three listings give 02-703-0019. Visitors booked through Naver, CatchTable or by phone.
  • Many posts follow templates. Eleven are 'best of Mapo' lists, TV-show recaps or reworded listings. One is a generated post illustrated with other people's photos; another calls itself an honest review but gives valet parking, Monday closing and an 18,000-won set — all at odds with every other post. We used none of these 11 as evidence.
