Korean

Obongjip Gangnam-yeok-jeom

오봉집 강남역점 Obong is the colloquial word for a round metal serving tray, and posts note the side dishes here arrive on one — Obongjip is the 'tray house'.

Compiled from 7 blog posts read in fullSources →

Obongjip's Gangnam Station branch sits on the second floor of 48 Teheran-ro 6-gil, in the food alley off Exit 4. People come for the Nakji Obongjip Special (62,000 won): fire-stir-fried octopus, boiled pork and tray noodles together, ordered in six of the seven visit posts. Side dishes and seaweed soup arrive on a round metal tray, with a self-serve bar for more. Many posts were work dinners or wedding-invitation gatherings. We read 30 posts dated 8 to 19 October 2026; 21 were about other Obongjip branches (Seolleung, Samseong, Seoul Nat'l Univ.) or other restaurants and were set aside, leaving seven actual visits.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Extra side dishes come from a self-serve bar: six of the seven visit posts mention it. One lists lettuce, garlic, ssamjang and pickled radish wraps; another found a huge rice cooker beside it and made bibimbap. Several say rice is unlimited at lunch.
  2. Portions are large, say five posts. One couple felt a three-person meal had arrived for two; another pair shared one special and couldn't eat dinner afterwards.
  3. You can book: three posts reserved through Naver and walked straight in. One group saw the room fill by 7 pm and a long queue on the way out; another says lunch always has a wait. Nobody gave a waiting time in minutes.
  4. The octopus is stir-fried in the kitchen, not at the table; one wedding-invitation party said that made conversation easier than at a grill restaurant, and their food came ten minutes after ordering.

There's no parking: two posts said to use a public car park (one named the Yeoksam 1-dong community centre). Other posts' 'no parking' lines were copied listing data and not counted.

Getting inside

Second floor1 of 7 posts
Separate restrooms1 of 7 posts

The restaurant is upstairs; one post noted the second-floor location and the large sign visible from the street.

We don't know whether the second floor is reached by stairs or a lift, or whether there is a step at the door. Nobody wrote about it, which isn't the same as there being none.

We don't know whether the toilet is inside the restaurant. One post found separate men's and women's rooms, clean and stocked with floss and mouthwash, but nobody said where they are. A 'reportedly spacious' remark was hearsay and not counted.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 9 posts we gathered, 2 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Accounts of how fast the food comes differ: one post says ten minutes, another says it felt like thirty.
  • Opinions on heat are split two to two: two posts found it spicy, two said it wasn't (one compared it favourably to Shin Ramyun), and two landed in between.
  • It's a walk from the subway: two posts said Gangnam Station Exit 4 is close, one putting it at seven minutes. Nobody described a bus route.
  • Company doesn't cluster: one family, one couple, one group of friends at a wedding-invitation dinner; the rest didn't say.
  • Six posts list opening hours, all copied from the listing. They agree on an 11:15 weekday opening and 12:00–22:00 at weekends; weekday closing is 22:30 in five and 23:30 in one, and last orders 21:20 in two versus 21:30 in one. Four give a 15:00–17:00 break. None mentions a closing day.
  • Prices in the posts are limited to the special (62,000 won), rice (1,000) and Fanta (2,000), so we can't give a per-person cost; no post here gives lunch-special prices. The 59,000 won seen in Seolleung-branch posts belongs to that branch.
  • Six posts give the same phone number, 0507-1388-7201; three booked through Naver Reservations.
  • The cut used for the bossam is uncertain: a 13 October post was told pork jowl-neck (gabeuri) was temporarily replaced, while posts from 18 and 19 October still call it gabeuri. This is the restaurant's word, so we didn't count it.
  • Of the seven visits, two disclosed a free meal or voucher from the restaurant; four say nothing but share the same pasted listing block at the top. One shows a paid-receipt badge.
