IZAKAYA KOKO

이자카야 고코 Ijakaya Goko Izakaya is the Japanese word for a casual pub where drinks come with small plates; the sign reads KOKO but the house and its diners call it Goko, and no post explains the name.

Compiled from 28 blog posts read in fullSources →

Izakaya Goko is a Japanese-style pub on the second floor of the Banseok Building, 21 Bongeunsa-ro 2-gil, in the bar alleys between Sinnonhyeon and Gangnam stations. The sign and Instagram say KOKO, but nearly every post calls it Goko. The core is aged sashimi and charcoal yakitori, with a wide supporting cast: flounder with salted gimbap, torched mackerel sushi, chicken nanban, sukiyaki, mizutaki and even pasta. Pairs mostly ordered the 65,000-won set of two-person sashimi plus seven skewers; the seven skewers alone are 25,000 won. Seating mixes a counter, tables and curtained booths, and the room fills by about 7 pm. We read 30 posts dated 29 October 2025 to 19 October 2026; 28 describe eating here. Two were set aside - one about the pork barbecue on the ground floor of the same building, one about Goko's Seolleung branch.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

What sets it apart

  1. Sit at the counter and the yakitori grill is right in front of you. Nine posts said they could watch the kitchen - one could see the smoke coming off the skewers, another watched the chef break down fish and felt comfortable eating there alone. One couple was steered to the counter by the staff.
  2. The 'rooms' are booths screened by curtains or fabric panels. Five posts called them rooms, nine described curtained or partitioned booths, and one said plainly they are not rooms, just partly separated. One diner seated in a 'room' noted the next table was right alongside, behind a blind. One post thought you need to request these seats when booking.
  3. It fills from around 7 pm. Six posts saw people waiting: a full house with a queue on a Monday evening, four parties waiting on a Sunday as one couple left, and a weekday diner who arrived just after opening and was eighth in line. One post found only two or three tables taken at 6 and a queue by 7. Ten posts booked through Naver or noted that booking works, and one mentioned a three-hour limit on weekends.
  4. A bowl of consommé-flavoured popcorn arrives free when you sit down. Thirteen posts mentioned it, and three got refills - one lost count of how many.
5 more
  1. Five posts ordered from a tablet or kiosk at the table. But one regular noted that only some seats have one and this time ordered by buzzer, and a diner at the counter was handed a paper menu - it depends where you sit.
  2. Twelve posts walked from the subway. Most put it about three minutes from Sinnonhyeon Station exit 6; others came from Gangnam Station exit 11. Two posts said exit 5 and one said exits 4 and 5.
  3. Most found the portions generous: eight posts said so, one noting two hungry people could not finish. One post felt the two-person sashimi was too small for its price.
  4. Five posts thought the prices fair and one thought them high (the sashimi above). One called 25,000 won for seven skewers reasonable for Gangnam; another balked at 33,000 won for sukiyaki until the pot and the amount of beef arrived. One found 2,500-won soft drinks cheap.
  5. Twelve posts found the staff friendly. Several were told to eat the sashimi in order - abalone, then white fish, then red - and to dip the white fish in salt, and servers explained the yakitori cut by cut. One diner asked for chili dipping sauce and got it without fuss.

Getting inside

Second floor6 of 28 posts
Lift to the floor1 of 28 posts
Toilet inside5 of 28 posts
Separate restrooms4 of 28 posts

The pub is upstairs. Six posts described going up to the second floor or sitting at its windows; several said to look for the building with a pork barbecue and a salt-grill restaurant on the ground floor.

No one said whether there is a step at the entrance or whether a wheelchair or pushchair can get in. The pub is on the second floor; one post mentions a lift and another took the stairs. That is an absence of reports, not a sign of barriers.

Five posts said the toilets are inside the premises and four that they are separate for men and women. Several noted mouthwash, cotton swabs, hand cream and sanitary pads laid out. One post described a single-occupancy toilet.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know

  • Some prices have moved. The two-person sashimi was 42,000 won in posts up to May 2026 and 45,000 won from August. The flounder with salted gimbap went from 33,000 won (November 2025) to 35,000 won (from July 2026), and the mackerel sushi from 25,000 to 27,000 won; the king-size futomaki listed at 35,000 won in 2025 appears as a 30,000-won futomaki from May 2026. The 65,000-won set, the 25,000-won seven skewers and the 20,000-won chicken nanban have not changed.
  • Every opening time here was copied from the listing. Most give 17:00-02:00 on weekdays and 16:30-02:00 at weekends, but some say 17:00 daily and a few 16:30-03:00 daily. Last orders were 00:30 in posts up to May 2026 and mostly 00:00 from July (one September post still says 00:30). One post noted no regular closing day. Check before you go.
  • Free corkage for one bottle not on the drinks list (20,000 won per bottle after that, with some soju brands excluded) is house policy repeated across many posts; no one wrote that they actually brought a bottle.
  • Most posts list the phone number 0507-1461-9192; two posts by the same blogger give 010-8065-9813. Copied booking notes say groups of five or more on Thursday to Saturday after 7 pm should phone the shop.
  • One post says it was a sponsored visit and one carries a review-platform hashtag; three say they paid their own way, and the other twenty-three say nothing about who paid. Many posts reproduce the menu's own descriptions of skewer cuts and 'catch of the day' sashimi word for word, so we did not treat those descriptions as evidence.
